Ok I have a quick question......when connor was 7 we got him the game boy handheld....then at 9 we got gameboy advance DS...he has a PS2 and we have tons of games...well for his 10th birthday he wanted an Ipod...or mp3 player.....so we told him if we sell all the other stuff (eb games or ebay) we can buy something that does it all.  So we came up with PSP.....does anyone think that at 10 a PSP is too much?  We also got the twins (3) Leapster hand held for christmas......are we bringing the techno world to early in the kids life?  please leave feed back

I dont know really. Shoot I dont have enough money to go and buy my kids handheld video games. My kids do have a PS2 and some games.

I think its a good idea for kids to be techo savy then not. Alot kids have computers and are knowledgeable about them. My kids have been on the computer since they were 3. They are now in the past couple years able to be on the internet. They are not allowed to be posting things or going to chat groups and the like. They are allowed to go to kid sites like cartoonnetwork.com and such. And my home computer is in the dining room which is near the kitchen so I can keep an eye on what they are doing. They can use the net to look up stuff for school projects but I or thier Father is there watching.

We must keep an eye on what our kids are doing but I beleive a set limited time on electronics is good for kids.

I think its great for kids to have a lot of experience with technology. We just got our son (21 months) the Little Leaps from leap frog. And our older kids got the v-flash. I have noticed a big difference between our older kids and our youngest. When Alexis and Steven were little, we were just getting into computer stuff, so they really didnt grow up with computers around. Jacob has been around a computer since he was born, and he already knows how to use the mouse, the keyboard, and how to turn it off. He doesnt know what they do, but he knows how to use them. Thats a big defference compared to Alexis and Steven.

With the way technology is growing, Im sure soon everything will somehow invlolve technology, so might as well get the kids started early.Smile

i think a psp wouldnt make a good hand held system for a 10 year old most the games are geared toward adults i would stick with the ds plus there is a new ds coming out with a bigger screen and stuff.and if you sell the ds at eb or gamestop you are lucky to get $40. if he wants an mp3 player there are cheaper alternatives to an ipod and they might just last longer.

You know, we bought one of the PSP's. I think that the Nintendo handheld is better for young kids. It's also cheaper, so I would stick with that.

If you want a game system. I know we have talked alot on here about the new Wii. I think that is a wonderful system to get kids. It gets them up and moving. The games are really geared for kids and families. I have seen it in action too, it's awesome.

Gameboy Advance is coming out with movies now for them.  I saw this at Christmas!

I checked into the PSP for mine, and after looking at the games, it is to much for little ones.

I looked around on the internet for some reviews of this product, and they were not all that good.  Although the reviews stated that PSP is really great technology, of the reviews that I read, it stated that the system was slightly expensive, very fragile, has low battery life and requires many accessories that are also pricey to use all the extra features (ie: MP3 player).  I am not electronic savvy, but you might want to look into it a little more.  I might not be getting all the information correct and some of the reviews that I read were posted quite some time ago.  The product could very well have been improved since then.  It was suggested that it was a better gaming system for a High School age child.  My neighbor purchased one for her 7 year old grandson for Christmas.  It looks so cool!Smile  My 6 year old was enjoying watching her grandson play.  She did say that it was a fragile gaming unit and that the first one that she purchased him was broken.  The store replaced it with a new system.  She does have to constantly tell him to not run with it though.  He may be just to young to understand how fragile it really is.

Good Luck.Smile

Wow what great response from all of you.  Thank you......I really love being able to voice thoughts and concerns and getting input from all of you.  Thank you for all of your advice.......

I really wanted to get the Wii but we have 3 ps2 one in each main room with a TV.  so I wasn't going to switch.....But I really wanted to.......We have soo many game for ps1 + ps2 that it would be silly to get rid of them.  So the hand helds is what we were really concerned about......The Leapster handheld we got the twins (3)  they love them!!!  The games Connor had were just so crazy he wanted this and that and this again.....thats why we were thinking we should just get rid of it all and get one handheld gamesystem.    Well........we did it........I did some research also and had a talk with Connor about it.  All the girls he knows and are friends with have DS and all the boys have a PSP so that was on the pro part of the pro and con list.......We did some research on ebay and I have a listing on there now.....DS and a SP plus 9 games back pack that holds it all 5 stylus pens game holders a soft case for both systems and we started it at 185...it been on for just a few hours and already at 225.....the psp system was 250.......so we decided to do that.  It came with one movie and 2 games in a bundle package.   My son loves it........now he can watch movies play video gams listen to music and store pictures...plus we just figured out that we can go onine also....SO Thats what we did...thanks fo everyones thoughts and advice.......YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!

oh we also bought a protector for the screen and a holder for the unit.....its cool cause you dont have to take it out to play it.......thanks again.........

oh also we signed up for a membership at blockbuster....and we are just going to rent the stuff for them instead of always buying them........

Where did you find the protector and the holder for the unit?  I would love to tell my neighbor about it for her grandson.  Also, renting the games first is a smart idea.  We have done it before for the PS2 games to make sure that they weren't to hard for our youngest son.  I wish they had someplace where you could rent GBA games.  Lately, it seems that the games we have gotten the boys have been too hard, and I probably wouldn't have purchased them.

if you want a better deal on used games loook up games plus and game zone they are mom and pop run game stores. games plus is at 44th st and thomas and game zone is at guadalupe and gilbert http://www.gamezoneusa.com/catalog/ ... im not sure if games plus is still around though. my husband and i collect game consoles so we have alot but we have given up on sony, we have been through multiple ps1s and have so far been through 2 ps2s but the one we have now is dying. all of our other game systems have lasted we bought our dreamcast the day they came out 9-9-99 and its gotten tons of use and still works like a champ same with our gamecube and other systems that are wayyy older. alot of ppl have been burned by sony so many times that they will no longer buy anything from them and currently their beloved ps3 is floundering yippy. currently the wii is harder to find than the ps3 even though more wiis have been produced, ppl that bought the ps3 to sell on ebay have been returning them to store since they cant get a high enough asking for them and another killer for the ps3 is game developers have decided they dont want to develop for it so alot of games that were supposed to come out on it are moving to the nintendo ds. so just remember friends dont let friends buy sony =P

We also rent video games from blockbuster. My boyfriend can beat a game within a week, so buying it is a waste. Plus we have bought games, and played a few times only to find out you dont like it. If we had just rented it first we would have saved a lot of $$.

When we do buy games, we usually only buy games that can be played over and over without officially beating it. Like Tony Hawk, and a lot of car games. Or like me, I sometimes get the urge to play games, but I lose interest so fast and dont have a lot of time to play. So, for me a game could last me years before I actually get around to beating it.Smile
