Dear First Grade Parents,

The following is a general list of school supplies that your child will need as

he or she begins first grade in the Warren City School District.

The list includes:

One pencil box

Pencils: fat and skinny

One box of crayons (16-count box)

One pair of scissors

One package of washable markers (fat, 8-count)

One Elmer’s Glue Stick

Two-pocket folders

One wide ruled spiral notebook

One box of Ziploc Sandwich Baggies

One bottle of hand sanitizer

One box of baby wipes

Once your child has been assigned to a particular first grade classroom, your child’s teacher may request other items.

mayrequest other items...WTcrap?

what did your childs supply list look like?

I think they request too much no a days for kids to start school. I'm surprised they didn't ask for napkins and a box of tissues too. All the teachers around here have that on there school supply lists. I think the school should provide everything except paper, pencils, and a folder.

Wow this school must really be on a tight budget! I did not have to provide anything for my kids school. Maybe this school has too many kids in one class and the teacher can't provide all the supplies for many kids. One of my boys has only 12 in his class. This might have to do with the economy.

I think schools are being WAY to picky and demanding.

Here is Savannah's list:

CrayonsOne box of 24. No florescent, scented or glitter crayons. (Crayola)
GlueTwo bottles of 4-ounce Elmer’s white glue (no paste, gel or stick)
Pencils Twelve number 2 wooden pencils. (Please sharpen and periodically send more to school.)

Eraser  One eraser (Pink Pearl)

ScissorsOne pair of pointed metal scissors (Fiskars).
Water ColorsPrang as cheaper brands do not last
KleenexOne large box of Kleenex
NotebooksTwo wide-lined spiral notebooks
FoldersThree pocket folders (any color or design)
Folders with FastenersOne purple and one red
Colored PencilsOne set of 12 pencils (Prang are best or Crayolas)
Magic MarkersOne set of 8 magic markers (Crayola Classic Colors—washable only— others will be sent home)
Dry Erase MarkersTwo blue or black low odor Expo Dry Erase Markers (others will be sent home)
HighlightersOne package containing five thin highlighters (pink, blue, purple, yellow, and green)
Wide-Ruled PaperOne package of wide-ruled loose leaf paper
PensOne package blue ballpoint pens
School BoxOne plastic shoe box approximately 7x12x4 with a removable lid to carry all school supplies
BackpackA backpacks without wheels is recommended
HeadphonesHeadphones in a labeled zip lock bag.  Old walkman headphones will work.
Paint Shirt A baggy old cloth shirt or paint smock
Tennis ShoesWe recommend having an extra pair of tennis shoes to leave at school for gym class. If buying new shoes, please buy white soles or no-skid soles as they do not leave black marks on our floors.
And Shelbys:

Glue Stick One glue stick—Elmer’s please (the fat ones work best)
Glue   One bottle of white glue
Kleenex   Two large boxes
Notebook              One small notebook for correspondence between home and school
Crayons    Two boxes of regular Crayola crayons (any amount)
Prang Water ColorsOne set of 8
Zip Lock BagsOne box of the 2-gallon size of Zip Lock Bags
NapkinsOne large package for snacks
Backpack One backpack that is easy for your child to open and close

Then on top of all the supplies WE have to provide, they charge school fees that were almost $200!

My 6 year old is really into not being wasteful so when my 13 year old asked when we were going out to buy new back packs the 6 year old said she was going to use hers from last year and she thought her sister should do the same.  The kid has got a point!  So, we are recycling this year, sharpen those old pencils and give them the same pencil box they used last year, some things you have to buy new, but see what you can recycle from last year, every little bit helps.

Okay this is for the whole year- with this list we will not have to buy anything- do I have you all beat??

These items should not be labeled because we will share them:
2 bottles of Elmer’s Washable School Glue (4 oz. Each)
4 large glue sticks or 8-10 small glue sticks (Elmer or Avery work well)
6 #2 sharpened pencils (plain yellow please)
1 large box of facial tissues
1 Pink eraser
3 boxes of Crayola crayons (24 pack)
1 box of 8 Wide Washable Crayola markers
1 box snack size Ziploc baggies
1 box sandwich Ziploc baggies
1 box gallon size Ziploc bags
1 container of antibacterial wipes (used to keep our resting mats and table tops
sanitary)
4 dry erase markers (black Expo)
1 8 ½ x 11 clear plastic envelope (available at Wal-Mart or Office Depot)
1 pair of child’s size white socks (to be used as an eraser on a white board)
These items should be labeled with your child’s name:
2 pocket folders to be used as “Going Home” folders (please no side pockets as
children have trouble fitting papers in)
1 Pair gym shoes to be left at school (velcro fasteners if your child does not tie yet)
1 Art smock/old shirt (short sleeves)
1 Backpack (large enough to hold school projects, boots and snow pants)
1 Rest mat (Wal-mart sells a nice one that’s blue and red that stores well)
1 Scissors, Fiskars, child sized, pointed or round tipped

Girls – 1 package of plain white paper plates
Boys – 1 package of dot stickers

I agree!  It does get pretty ridiculous!

Here is Emma's list:

1 White Elmer's School Glue

4 Large glue sticks

2 packs of 24 (only 24) crayons

12 #2 pencils- sharpened

2 large erasers

4 wide-ruled notebooks

4  2-pocket folders

1-  1/2-inch 3-ring binder with plastic front cover

2 packs of washable markers

1 large box of Kleenex

1 paint shirt (old t-shirts only)

1 pencil box

1 pack colored pencils

1 Fiskars scissor

1 hand-held, self-contained pencil sharpener

1 backpack (no rollers)

3 boxes of healthy cereal to share with the class

And Emma's only in 1st grade!!!  Also, there are 2 elementary schools in our district, and they both have different supply lists (the other school is a LOT shorter!!!) so I don't know what that's about!

And yeah, we are all about recycling whatever we can too.  Emma would have reused her folders from last year, but they got pretty worn out (plus she needs twice as many this year!).  She did use the same backpack for 2 years of preschool and kindergarten.  This year, my mom took Emma shopping for all of her supplies and new school clothes (which I am VERY thankful for!) so that really helped.  But yeah, it does get crazy, that's for sure!

my favorite thing....PEEVE is that they are telling us what brand to by..ie ziploc, elmers, and such...last yr i had to buy everything crayola... I probably would have any way cause thats what I know and trust but having them tell what I had to buy was just not cool to me.

We are not required to bring anything, but are given a list. It is not a big list but we still managed to spend $300 last week on school stuff, including shoes, socks, etc. I feel that since I am able to afford what is on the list, I will buy what my kids need and a few extra boxes of kleenex and hand sanitizer too.

i dont have to worry about this yet but i remember having to buy all sorts of stuff for school and alot of times we didnt use alot of it by the end of the school year it just seems to have gotten worse.

our friends son is going into 1st grade this year and on the list was 4 boxes of crayons and each crayon had to be individually labeled hehe.

My kids are in private school their supply list is crazy.  Don't have a copy right now

But my nieces and nephews are in public school and they have no supply list now.  They just bring in $3 on the first day of school and that covers all supplies they need for the year, right down to pencils and erasers.  I thought that was very nice and cheap.

The supply lists can be crazy, add to that the fact that I have 4 children in school, and it is down right ridiculous.  My children are all using their backpacks from last year.  If and when those packs break, I will be more than happy to replace them.

I had to label everything!  Every crayon, every pencil, every marker, etc!

I cheated and printed stickers off on the computer, but it still took forever, but at least I didn't have to write it all.
