Title: Lunch Boxes and Lunch Food
Posted: 4 months ago

I have been having a doozy of a time trying to find just the right lunch for my daughter.  Lunch box technology is supposedly better, but most still seem cheesy, flimsy, or waaaay too expensive.  Since when did lunch boxes stop coming with thermos' or cups??  Aww man, am I out of it.  What kind of lunch box do you guys have for your kids?  Where did you get it?

Also, I need some ideas on what to put in her lunch box.  Her lunch has to be kosher and she cannot bring anything containing peanuts or nuts.  I am brand new to this whole "lunch box biz" so I am a little anxious.

I have a Cars lunch box and use tupperware for his lunch.

I have to pack a Kosher lunch and he attends a Nut Free school - just curious, are you sending your daughter to the EVJCC in Chandler???

The Kosher bit has not been too much of a struggle - mainly because while it is stressed for the 2's class my son is in - they are a flexible.  If you send dairy - it will be given at a snack and not in the same meal as the meat.

Not being to familiar with the Kosher meals, I probably have sent a ton of non-Kosher food and he has always been fed.  That being said, I am trying to follow it better and have ask the school to provide a cheat sheet.

For the nut allergies - from what I have been told, Sunflower butter is a winner with the kids.

I have just sent him with a jelly sandwhich and that gets eaten right up.

A typical lunch for Rivers includes 1 serving fruit, veggies, protein, and some snacks...

Fish

Cereal bar for snack (including the Kids Cliff bar)

Sweet Potato chunks

Yogurt

Apple Sauce

Speghetti & Meatballs

Stuffed bell peppers

Tuna sandwhich

Strawberries or blueberries or any other kind of fresh fruit

Snack kits bought Sprouts (Banana Nibbles, Cherry Oats and so on)

On the drink note, we send him with 1 cup filled with milk and a 2nd milk cup for a refill.  I also send 1 juice box in his lunch and hte rest of the day he gets water.

Cottage Cheese is another one too.

I'm not sure the age of your daughter.  My kids are teens - but I gave up on lunchboxes years ago as one more thing they had to carry (or lose) through the day.  Of course it limits what you can pack - pretty much pb&j for us - (oops - that's nuts) - then there's bagels/cream cheese; applesauce cups; rice krispi treats; juice boxes &if you don't mind chocolate - yoo-hoos don't have to be refrigerated.  I used to freeze the juice boxes, but my kids complained the boxes just made everything soggy when it thawed.  Now - I just send water bottles so they can eat their calories - it's just too much work to send milk or juice and water is better anyway.

I can't tell if you're in Phoenix - but we have to be careful about heat and food spoilage.

Wow - without peanut butter I don't know what my kids would have eaten.  There was trail mix - oops that has nuts.

Or - a mixture of leftover munchies - e.g. cheerios, marshmallow, goldfish, raisins or dried pineapple, peanuts (oops again), other small crackers.

Good luck!  Try the library for kids cookbooks as a thought

You can still get thermos' but you have to buy them seperate check the camping gear section at your local dept store... I also saw lil thermos look a like things that were from the highschool musical at super K today. they may have other brands.

I'm not to hip on whats kosher and whats not... so forgive me if i lay down some ideas that dont fit...Smile

B usually gets a meat or a pb and j...but more often he chooses meat...I get it sliced thick at the deli and once home cut it into squares or fun shapes with our mini cookie cutters.

carrots are a huge hit in his lunch as are apples and grapes...but those always scare me I'm affraid he will share with some one and they will choke... so noid I am...lol sometimes he would buy milk sometimes I'd  send with water or capri sun...they make no sugar added capis now too! also yougert b totally loves the gogerts but they are loaded with sugars so those are special.

of course you have to send soemthing that is totally not good for them like chips ..lol or a mini candy bar!...lol with note attached expressing your love for the dear sweet child that you miss.Smile I'm joking  you dont really have to do that.

I just looked at the lunch box we got brad...it is a thermos lunch box... hard plastic one with bat man on it! but it didnt come with a thermos but there was a freezer pack insideSmile BTW i go t it at Dollar General, I'm not sure if you all have those out there, do you?
