Title: Thyroid?
Posted: 4 months ago

My mom just received a letter from her doctor that her thyroid results came back abnormal. I really don't know much about this but I was reading on MD about thyroid. I was wondering if any of you have gone through something like this before. Know we have to wait for her to see a specialist. I am worried alittle but I'm trying not to show it.

Hey.

I dont have this problem but I have dealt with it before. Did the Dr say she has Hyper or Hypo thyroid? It is best managed with medication and it isnt a death sentence. I think Hypothyroid can cause excessive weight gain. If I remember right Oprah has Hypo.

So before you get yourself all worked up go to the Specialtists. She will be fine.

alrighty ana...heres what I know from experience.

1 hormones change all the time in ones body...

2 Ladies taking the plung into "mature" yrs sometimes experience temperay changes some times not temp.

My own experiencewas found after Liv was born. I felt weird so I went to DR. heart racing, sweating, felt faint at times, excited that wait was fling off of me though...like I was on speed or something. I was nursing her as well... so they took some blood to run a few test and what do you know...my thyroid was hyper...he didnt wasnt to put me on anything, cause it wasnt at a dangerously high level and i was nursing... so he said to come back in 3 more months to recheck.... did that...what do you knwo... tyroid level was 0 thats zero, zilch, nada... I was feeing slugish and tired, still sweating like made but no more crazy fast heart beat...and the weight loss had stoppedFrown  by that time i was finsihed nurshing liv was just about 9 moths and i was clsoing down the milk factor for all shifts no production going on.... so he perscribed synthroyed which was nice... only it made my hair a lil thiner then i'd like..but you can blam that on the  whole just having a kid thing too...any whoo I thoug this was going to be something I had to deal with all my life...BTW my mom has thyroid issues too.... go figure...

My mom had thyroid issues as well and had to have the whole thing removed.

meds made me feel better less sluggish and all. picked up moods too... tyroid has huge part in allthe bodies works!

well here recently say feb...I stopped taking meds... cause I had all this other blood clot crap going on and totally forgot about it. Si I went to the doc a  month back and he check my blood and said it was fine that my levels were good.... WTF i though... So i figured that the hormon levels change in ppls bodies must have a huge part in the thyroid activity....

if your mom is closeto the changing thing or in it that could be playing a role...no worries though..isnt bad or scary thing to freak out about....meds work just make sure she ddoes the blood work often to make sure she not getting to much or too little.

this is something eles...my friend Terri has this.... My dr explained it to me as... something that make sthe levels of thyroid go up and down in your system...until finally it just fizzles out.... and gets all spent up and then you have to be on meds.... terry get salot of blood work done at the moment to maintain healty levels...

When I was pregnant with one of my kids and they did the standard panel my thyroid was totally out of whack. I started to freak out a little myself but the nurse assured me that thyroid numbers are often wrong. I'm sure they will do a follow up test for your mom.

I don't know anything about it beyond that, but the nurse told me that it's not uncommon (even in not pregnant people) to get a weird reading.

For you and your mom I hope that's the case. If not, I hope the specialist guides you in the right direction.
