we had our first monsoon storm lots of loud thunder and it poured for alittle bit. our housing development is right next door to the indian reservation which is over run with plants and weeds right now from the rain we got over the winter. well the lighting set off a fire in the river bottom its not very far from us.

they are haing trouble fighting the fire because theres no roads or water near by.

I saw that on the news.  But your pics are much cooler than the ones from the helicopter.  The sky just looks all gross over here from dust and probably some of the smoke.  Thankfully we're not getting the dust storms that under alert for.  Hope they get the fire out soon so you guys don't have crappy air.

your pictures are cool, but the fire itself is awful.  Hopefully they get it taken care of soon.

the fire is a good thing its burning salt cedar and other invasive introduced plants. for a little bit the fire looked small and almost out but it looks like it has kicked back up.

Good or bad, it made for an awesome sunset on this side of the valley.

now that it dark the flames are lit up alot more ill prolly go back and take more pics later when i was down there there were alot of ppl at the little park to watch along with ppl walking down the middle of the street and blocking the sidewalks.

its moving north pretty fast now since the wind picked up and they are evacuating 20-25 houses on the reservation. i took some nite pics but once i had a chance to get to the top of the playground i relize im out of memory on my camera i forgot to put the damn card back in hehe.





 







of course simon wantd me to take a pic of him since i was taking pics hehehe. it came out pretty good for not being bale to see him the playground has no lights except at a ramada.

It one of those things that is scary but amazing at the same time.  I hope no one was hurt.  Thanks for the pics Pezzy.

Any update on the fire?  I was only able to find an article from last night around 11pm.  It just stated there were voluntary home evacuations.

Hey Pez, is that drainage area enough to keep it from jumping over to your neighborhood?

We have fires here in my place also. Last year we had fires from about an hour distance from where we live, what sucks is that we had all the ashes falling down our city. This year we have fires again, I hope that we don't get the ashes, what also sucks is that the sky is orange and not a clear blue.

Wow!  That is so scary!  I love your pictures though.  Isn't it sad that some of the most amazing pictures are of something destructive like fire or tornados?  I hope no one was hurt.

when the wind died down last nite it ended up moving back south so it was closer to our house again so we had a nice glow to the sky as we went to bed. currently its hard to see where it is from our back patio theres smoke lingering everywhere out that way and alittle overcast too. we havent had any ash or smoke by us since the wind is blowing it all north and maybe west of us. the drainage ditch should be able to stop it from getting to theres a dirt road on the far side from us and a big sidewalk over all its pretty wide with grass and a cement ditch that always has water in it in the bottom they could even flood it with water to use to fight the fire. the fire is still pretty far from us(we are at 73rd ave and baseline its near 91st ave and baseline) so im not worried about it getting to us and they have been dropping water and stuff on it since this morning. i was hoping they would let it burn longer since theres lots and lots of salt cedar down there that needs to be removed and the fire seems the easiest and most effective way to get rid of it. i might be able to get some pics from around where the fire was since thats the way we take to go to target alllllll the time in fact we drive through the riverbottom i just dont know how close it actually got to 91st ave.

Wow Pez, those are great pics. I havent read the news yet today but It sounds like you guys are a safe distance away from the fire. Hopefully they can keep the fire under control & no home are destroyed.
