Title: 8 year old and Sex?
Posted: 2 months ago

Yesterday I was cleaning my eight year olds room. I was trying to look for change so I could put it in a container. I know my son keeps his change in his lunch box. I opened it and to my surprise found a flyer of an adult dancer. It had the picture of a girl in a small bikini. It had her likes and dislikes about sex. It seemed like an old flyer and it had the date from december 2007

I first thought that maybe it was my dh. I called him asking him for the thruth. My dh said that the last time he had been to this place was 10 years ago. He also said that he would never do something like that. I then thought it was our nephew whom is 12 and had spend acouple of nights at our house. I called him and he also said that it was not him.

We then talked to our son when he got home from shcool. My dh asked him if he knew anythinga bout this picture. My son with a grwon up face said "yes". I guess he said he had found it on the sidewalk one day after walking home from the bus stop. My son said tha he was not sure why he took it home. He did say tha she was cute though. I cried when I heard him say that. My son is she when it comes to girls. I sometimes make fun of him telling asking him if there is a little girl at school that likes him. He gets mad at me when I talk to him like that. So I don't understand why he would have picked it up.

My dh talked to him one on one. He said tha he read it but did not understand everything it meant. My son did not seemed scared or emberrased about it. I know he will somedy start to be curious like this but I think that he is too young right noe

I think that you handled this perfecty and I wouldn't worry about it anymore. It was innocent curiousity. The fact that he wasn't embarrassed is good because it means that he really doesn't understand what he was looking at. It is normal and healthy to be curious about anything you have never seen before and this just happened to be something new that was a little above him. All is well.

I think you guys handled that so well. I don't think it's too young (I'm sure we all want it to be too young) but all kids hear stuff at school and become curious. It may be more a curiousity about what he's heard about than an actual curiousity about sexuality.

An open discussion is the best way and it sounds like you had that!

No biggie there! He may be shy about girls around you but maybe not when it actually comes down to a girl. His likes and dislikes are probably changing. Hes curious. At least ya know he likes girls/women!!!
