Title: Love the new house, but......
Posted: 8 months ago

I am so frustrated. We moved into my dream home, which I am now finding out is not such a dream. There are so many stray cats in this neighborhood that my yard smells and looks like a litterbox. I do not have cats, I really do not like cats. I cleaned up cat poop from my front flowerboxes when we moved in and they are full again. Every time I look around, there is a damn stray cat around my house. The local police will not do anything about them. They said I could live trap them and take them to the shelter that is 30 miles from my house. I had to bleach and Pine Sol my deck today because it smelled lilke cats. I have my kids super soaker water gun loaded and shoot the cats when they come close to my house. I love my house, but I did not spend $150,000 to have it be a giant litter box. I have heard to put moth balls or ceyanne pepper in the places where they poop. I do not know if it will work or not, but I am up for trying anything.

add some white vinager and water to that super soaker...my sister trained her cats not to get on furniture like that i see no reason you cnat keep them out of your yard that way....when they lick the yucky viniger off thier fur they realize they dont wantt to get it anymore.

I only have that problem in the summer months when my neighbor lets her cats out...grrr  I can certainly do with out. and the fact that the cats use my beloved flower beds as pooping grounds...that ticks me off! and most recently a male cat has marked his territory on my back porch....what a nasty smell!

i tried the moth balls.... didnt work...plus scarey thing to have laying around in the yard with lil ones about. peper worked for a min...then it rained....lol good luck with hollys link!

This might help with cats, my gmas sugesstion for rabbits.  Go to a dog groomer and ask for dog hair and put it around your yard.  But those cats sound like they are stubborn- this product is for  gardens http://www.pet-shop.net/html/repel.html ... but might work in yard. or this http://www.scatmat.com/products/catstop/ ....  We have the rabbits, which are better to have then cats.  Try calling a cat rescue some independent rescuers might be willing to come out and help- Good luck Bren

I'm sorry you're experiencing this, but I TOTALLY get it. We moved into our dream home last June and while we love our home (and our neighbors) everyone here has dogs and just lets them roam all over the place. As the snow melted this year there were two poops on my back porch and (yes I counted them) 40 poops in my front yard. We don't even have a dog!!!

I could scream! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. We love all our neighbors so we don't want to be mean, but it drives me nuts!

Good luck!

I have heard to try using empty two liter pop bottles and fill partly with water and place them on thier sides. Cats supposedly hate the reflection. Havent tried that cause I have stray cats in my neighborhood. A neighbor two houses down from me feeds these damn things. Also heard to use rosebush clippings and keep the thorny branch part. Cats hate prickly things on thier paws. Or use a Paintball gun.

Here in the Valley we are charged for bringing in stray cats. Id just as soon as shoot the dang things. But I cant do that cause I dont like hurting them. Last week at night I accidently hit one and killed it cause the dumb thing ran right into the rear tires of my ambulance. Felt bad tho. I HATE cats but I dont mean to cause them harm. Just make them go away and stop using our front yards as a toilet.

Ohy, not a fun topic, but I understand the frustration, when we were growing up, we had no animals (due to me and my allergies..lol) but being a 'corner lot' we had a large yard, and many many 4 legged neighbours visited our grass, and in the middle of a soccor game with kids, would take a gross turn when half the feild was covered in poop.. yucky...

My trick that we used, was a squirt gun, but fill it with Cayenne  pepper, or red pepper, or anything nice and spicy like that... My father did not like cleaning up after the animals.. so after experimenting, the powdered spice was small enough (it gumms up the squirt guns after a while) but worth it..   The animals that get squirted then try to lick off the water, and when they get covered in cayanne pepper a few time, they are smart enough to avoid your yard because licking that all off, would not be fun for cats and dogs!!   It does not hurt the animals, (and i'm all for that) and it is safe to use in gardens too ( we had alot of them digging in moms garden.. sprinkled on the dry ground, keeps skunks, cats, dogs out of your garden too)

Good luck, and I hope it goes well... our new house.. wasps, thats my new enemy.. trying to sting my kiddies.. hmmm new problem to try to figure out, lol

cats dont like sticky stuff on their paws so you can try tape with the sticky side up, fly paper, and i know there is some thing like fly paper but made to keep cats off stuff. put kool aid in a squirt gun and squirt them it will dye thier fur but not harm them, maybe thier owners will get the point and keep them inside hehe.

My old neighborhood use to have alot of cats. Then one day the numbers started dwindling. I was confused until one evening I saw a pack of coyotes. That took care of the stray cat problem.  I heard from my husband that we had a couple running thru this neighborhood.

yeah thats why we dont have stray cats around here since we have coyotes and javelina and lots of dogs that wander around on the reservation. any cat they dont get is usually found dead on baseline hit by a car, we see dogs hit by cars alot to since they just wander around the res. i think if you are going to have a pet any pet you need to keep it indoors or at least restrained for other ppls safety, their safety and a common courtesy i know i dont like seeing dead animals on the side of the road and over here im always afraid we are going to hit a dog thats wandering around.

My mom also had a problem with cats and she tried everything with no succes. She only has a couple cats so she isnt being invaded but its still aggravating. While trying to help my mom get rid of cats I found this...its called ScareCrow Motion Activated Sprinkler. It has motion sensors and shoots out a burst of water when it detects movement. Its a little pricey but I guess if its that big of a problem paying a little $$ is worth it. http://www.safepetproducts.com/product.asp?sp ...

I hope you can find a way to get rid of them.....Their poop is really annoying but the males spraying everything is even more annoying. I do know there are some cat rescues that trap the cats, nueter them, then return them to where they were found..that might help a little. The'yll still be around but at least you can eliminate the nasty odor they leave.

Good Luck!! Lets us know if you find something that works!!

Here is a link about the Trap-Neuter-Return for stray and feral cats. Im not sure if they are located in your area, but Im sure if you contact them and tell them your problem they might be able to give you some  more info.

The trap/spay and nuter thing doesnt solve the cat poop thing at all. They still get into cat fights and cause all sorts of problems. I have several here that are injured. One has a broke front leg and another is missing an eye.
