Title: Starting Potty Training..
Posted: 1 years ago

I've been trying to hide from this one.  I started potty training my 12 year old when she was just 13 months old and it went very well.

Now I have a 22 month old and I was starting when she was 18 months but she made it more of a game so I stopped.  But she continues to tell me when she is going.

I'm waiting until she turns 2 in August because I am going to be in Chicago for 3 weeks this summer and didn't want to be in the middle of potty training and traveling for 3 weeks.

My oldest potty trained a couple months before she was two and we did it by commiting a week to her being naked and us going NOWHERE. At first I'd sit her on the potty every 30 minutes or so and ask her if she wanted to go. We'd read books, we'd sing songs, etc. for about 10 minutes each time and finally one time she just went in the potty. We made the hugest deal and explained to her what she had done and gave her a couple of M&Ms. After the M&Ms she always just wanted to sit on the potty, but we explained she only got them if she WENT in the potty. It didn't take long. Within days she was not having many accidents and after one week we were able to go out with no pull-ups or anything.

I know using chocolate/bribes is objectionable to many, but after a couple of weeks we she started getting M&Ms only for #2 and then shortly thereafter we just said, you do this because you're a big girl and she was quite happy with that.

Thank you to everyone.I agree that patience and praise will be key. I sounds like I should really clear my schedule, stay home and be diligent with her and a timer for a week.

I look forward to this venture. I'll keep you all posted on my/our progress.

Thanks Again.

I have a almost two year old daughter who i would like to start potty training. She will let me know that she poo pooed or pee peed after she already did it in her pants and she wants to be changed right away but i can't seem to get her to comprehend the toilet is where your supposed to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I don't know anything about potty training. How did you know when your child was ready? How long did it take?

My son was totally potty trained at 2 and a half-  It seemed the worse I stressed about it the worse it was for him.  I first had him wear big boy pants- and kept a potty chair by us at all times.  Some times I put it by the tv and he watched tv thereSmile  Day by day we took babysteps.  Don't be afraid to us rewards M&MS etc.  Kids thrive by instant gradification-  and a little bowl of their special treat might help.  I was tenative about the snack thing-people told me it was bad etc. but once I started treats after potty he was trained 2 weeks later.

Ok if she dont like to be wet. U can try to leave her in it a little bit. Not long cause u dont want a rash or any thing. I just straight out told my daughter ok u are a big girl now and took the diapers away and put big girl pants on her. I was to the point of giving up cause I tried everything with her. There is a forum in the forums that has about potty training and different things to help. I really do think that if she tells u she is wet she is ready. But every child is different. good Luck and hope u find something to help u.

I know this may sound weird, but my daughter is 2, and I am getting ready to start potty training also. What I started to do is flush her poopoo that is in her diaper infront of her. I say, "okay time to flush the poopoo" and she follows me into the restroom and we say "bye bye" to it. She knows where we go and now where hers goes, so I want to try, but scared of accidents. Hopefully this will help her.

Title: Another potty training question
Posted: 11 months ago

I saw another question on here about potty training, but mine is a little bit different...my daughter has just turned 20 months. The last week or two, she will go to the big potty and say, "Potty, tinkle, tinkle," and ask to sit on the potty. So I take her diaper off and she sits up there. Sometimes her diaper is already wet. So far, she hasn't gone in the potty. Is she too young for me to be trying to train? I have NO clue about how to potty train a toddler.

watch her for ques the look in her eyes when she is feeling wet when you see that ask her if sh needs to potty...

you can try taking her to the potty and suggesting she trys after consuming drinks as well...

pull ups are nice put to absorbent I think for them to be able to feel the pee... so if you can get some of those thick training underpants they car cotten and you can feel the pee... be sure to have paper towels on hand...hehe

I'd say she's not too young. What might help is if you take her to the potty, say, every hour and a half or so. When she gets used to that, she may start waiting to pee at those times, and not go in her diaper/underwear.

My son (now 2 1/2) was potty trained at 17 months, but I had to always take him to the toilet when I figured he needed to go - he wouldn't tell me; if I forgot, then he'd pee when he couldn't hold it any longer, but as long as I took him every couple hours or so, he'd always wait for the toilet. (With poopies, he ALWAYS  tells me; he was poopie potty trained even before he was pee potty trained - but every kid is different.)

And make the potty fun, of course! Don't worry about people who say, "Ohhhh you can't potty train a child till such-and-such an age!" You can judge your child best. If it gets too stressful, then you can back off; if it's fun, then keep on working with it.

Good luck!

This may sound a little mean, but when Layla wants to use her potty we give her stickers and if she wears her pull ups and doesnt go potty in them and uses the toilet we let her wear the pull ups ( we call them big girl pants) all day. If she pottys in them we put a diaper back on her and she doesnt like the diapers, so she tries to keep her big girl pants clean, she will be 2 years old next month, she was interested very early in the whole potty in the toilet process. It seems to work for us.
