The only thing that I can say that someone once told me...was get tiny chocolate chips and  a chalk board  if she gets on the potty and goes give her a chip.......and when she goes #1 she gets a check next to her name and #2 she gets a star.......I didn't want to do this at first because I thought she is going to go through a lot of chocolate chips.....but after the first 2 days we didm't use the chips anymore she was more interested in the checks and stars and how much we praised that.......

Like I say ewith most of everything else...this is just something someone told me...I used it.....and it worked for us.......this by no means is the "right way to do it" some people may not like to give the kids chocolate.....I was fine with it.....

I think rewards are a great way to encourage potty training. With my daughter she was pretty easy. She didnt like the feel of a dirty diaper. My oldest son was a completely different story!! We tried everything.....he knew how to go to the potty...but he just didnt want to get up and go. I just kept being consistant, and PATIENT (which can be hard at times) eventually we made it through the whole potty training.

Now I just need to start working with Jacob.....please let it be easier than with steven!!!Surprised

I completely understand what you are going through.  My problems aren't at home but at daycare.  She potties just fine at home, but when the daycare provider sets her on the potty Alayna screams bloody murder.  I don't know what to try anymore.  If you figure out something that works, will you please let know?  I'll do the same for you if I figure out something that works.

Ammon just turned two on the 7th of Feb.  When and how do I start potty training him?  Has anyone already potty trained a two year old boy and it worked well?

We used chocolate kisses when they went on the potty....Then I had a chalk board...I wrote their names...then they would get checks going #1 and a star for going #2....Then after they would go i would make a stinking big deal out of it praise then up and down ...and then thats what they wanted...not to go on potty...but to get the praise and stars......When we fist started with Logan we would put cheerios in the toilet and tell him to aim for it.......I wrote about potty training in another area...i was looking for it to copy and paste.....i will look some more

I'm potty training my daughter right now. We started with the sticker charts but she soon found out that all she had to do was sit for a few minutes then she'd get a sticker. So...I stopped that. Now I just read to her or let her look at a book. It seems to be working alot better. I really needed something easy that dad could remember when he took her to potty.

As for a boy, I don't know. I wish I could be more help.

When I was potty training my little girl I did the same thing as the other moms. I loaded the bathroom with tons of books to keep her patient to wait for the "pee pee." When she was done I praised her and if she was successful I would give m and m's.

I did teach preschool for a bit and my biggest piece of advice is to one wait til they have communication to alert you when they are wet or think they need to go. If they are in diapers and they are not vocal about wet or dirty diapers they might not be ready.  Also, when you decide to give it a go, be consistent. Don't go back and forth between diapers, pull-ups and underwear. For some kids this is confusing and prolongs the time it takes for them to be fully potty trained.

The name of the game is to build up their confidence and make them want to be a big boy or girl!! Remind, encourage, but don't force or they WILL pull back.

Good luck!!!  Hope this helps. Every child is different so be patient and watch your child for what will work for him.

I just use pull-ups on Jazmyn. It shouldn't be long until we go to the next step. I'm just waiting on her to stay dry all night.

Just a note:

Be careful with waiting til they are dry at night to take away pull-ups in the day. I had a niece and a nephew that both were in  underwear all day at 2 1/2 but didn't stay dry through the night til almost age 4! I have heard that it is pretty common for some kids to have accidents during the night if they are a heavy sleeper and/or scared of getting up to make it to the bathroom in time.

Thanks. I plan on still using them at night even when she stays dry just in case. You never know. Better safe then sorry.

I think I'll go ahead and try real underwear and see what happens. We usually run off of two pull-ups all day. Does it sound like it might be time?
