A few months ago, a song came out that ran right up the pop billboard charts, it's called Beautiful Girls, by Sean Kingston.  It's a very catchy little tune and the following are only some of the lyrics:

This weekend I was watching tv, and was sickened to see, that 'Beautiful Girls' has been included on the newest 'Kidzbop' CD.  If any of you have young children, you know that these are CD's that come out regularly with pop songs that are remade by children.  These are aimed directly at our young people and are supposedly "kid friendly".
 
Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24, and ages 15 to 19.  It is also the THIRD leading cause of death for Caucasian children ages 10 to 14, and the FIFTH leading cause of death for African-American children ages 10 to 14.  (You can see additional statistics at www.suicidology.org).  Our young people don't have fully developed coping skills for the stress in their lives, and we live in an age where sensationalism only increases 'copycat' violence, and I don't believe this is a song we want to take lightly.  I'm asking you to please, join with me and send a note to info@kidzbop.com and express your displeasure at such a poor choice on their part to include this song. The album is scheduled for release in February, and I believe that if we send a strong enough message that this is unacceptable, we CAN make a difference.
 
I am including a short example email at the bottom that you can feel free to cut and paste to make this as quick and painless as possible for you to add your support.  But please take a moment to forward this to everyone you know, so we can start getting their attention.

I would like to voice my concern and objection to your including the song 'Beautiful Girls' on your newest Kidzbop CD.  This song makes light of the subject of suicide, and is not appropriate material for a CD aimed directly at young people.  Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for young people age 15 to 19 and ages 15 to 24, and the 3^rd leading cause of death for Caucasian children ages 10 to 14, and the 5^th leading cause of death for African-American children ages 10 to 14.  hese are not lyrics we need children, tweens and teens walking around singing.  I urge you to rethink this choice before the release of the CD, and remove it from the list of songs.

Im still SO AMAZED  by movies and products  marketed specifically for children oft times  and more how many parents dont seem to question  what kids are absorbing   Not just from the kids stuff either  but otherwise good parents   missing that the  music in the car  cds radios ect   the messages being sent... sigh  It saddens me greatly that kids are so WAY knowing words to rap for example   not the good kind  or even when I was young   songs I thought were fun as little   like My Boy Lollipop   yet were so wrought w ADULT meanings  Judy in Disguise   but at least it took me awhile to figure it out    nowadays  the lyrics arent even noticed as adult while so much more explicit than ever before  and lil ones are gettin it all.   Cuss words   Why are they necessary  in Any movie ? Really  and especially in Cartoons  Like Casper The Freindly Ghost  my family   even hardly NOTICED the cusses   while I threw one copy away  another turned up  Our society  seems so desensitized to   this stuff

While I agree with you 500%, I do remember my 16 year old (who absolutely HATES Kidzbop stuff) made a comment about that song in paticular.  In the KidzBop verison they did change the words.  She isn't here right now for me to ask her what they were changed to.

 I know that they di change the words in several songs to make them ore kid friendly.  I still can't stand them and would never buy them for my kids.

Thats why we are the Adults/Parents. We are to monitor what our kids listen to, read and watch.

I completely agree that it is very easy to become so desensitized to this kind of thing that you really don't even notice.  That is why we are so careful about what we watch and listen to, as well as what we allow the kids to be exposed to.  It just makes me sad to see kids as young as 3 knowing all the words to songs that I would never listen to.  We will happily stick with the Veggie Tales here.
