Welcome to MommyTalk.com – The Place For Parents
Here is a quick tutorial on the MommyTalk.com System. For more specific help, please visit the Information section (at the bottom) of the forum. “Questions and Suggestions” and “Tech Support” are two great areas to get help from the MommyTalk.com tech team and other members.
First, we will focus on the options you have for creating your free family webpage.
To begin, creating and changing your webpage is done through your “My Account” section. Find this link in the top architecture.
The “my account” box (top left corner) is typically used as a status box. It will follow you throughout most of the site. You can see your:
MommyTalk rating – Described further below. Access your email – Described further below. Private messages – Described further below. Go to your page settings – Described further below. Invite new users – Invite friends to join your MommyTalk.com network. Include their email addresses to the email and send. Once they signup from that email, they will be automatically linked to your account as a friend. See your friends – Described further below.
Go to your “My Account” page. This is an easy place to access your latest MommyTalk.com information, while cruising throughout the site.
Underneath the “my account” box is where you will access most of your webpage options. First, you will the “Set My” section. This is where you can set your location (at home, in the office, etc.) and mood (happy, busy, etc.). Just type your entry into here and click “Set Mood/Location.”
Underneath this, you will find the “View My” section. This is where you can view how your page shows up. Specifics within this section include:
Online Profile Page – See your webpage as others see it. Private Messages – See your received and sent messages. Compose private messages and send to one or all of your friends. Friends – See your complete list of friends. You can choose your top 5 by clicking on the number you want correlated to those top 5. You can also see which of your friends is online. If they are on the MommyTalk.com system, they will have a green outline around their picture. You can also see your outstanding friend invites and friend invitations that are pending your approval.
Underneath this, you will find the “Edit My” section. This is where you can edit how your page shows up. Specifics within this section include:
Blog Page – Create your own blog to share your thoughts. First, add a blog category. If you feel like keeping multiple blogs (children, husband, work, etc.), creating different categories is a great way to organize them. One you have created a category, you can now click on the “Add a blog entry to (your chosen category)”. You can give that blog it’s own title, subtitle, type in the content, attach a picture and save. You are now a blogger! Depending on the access levels you have set, your blog can be viewed by your network. Profile – Answer an array of questions to give your friends a better sense of who you really are. If you don’t feel like answering, don’t. They won’t show up on your webpage. Once you are finished, click “Save Profile Settings” on the bottom. Kids – Create mini webpages for your kids. Click on “Add a new child.” Enter in their name, birthday, description and photo. Don’t worry, you can choose what you want to share with others, but that information must be entered to create a kid page. Click “Save Child Info” to save. Now, you will be taken to your kid management page. You can “Edit (child’s name) info – what you entered to create their page. You can also “Edit (child’s name) profile – a list of questions better describing that child. Media Gallery – Post picture galleries for all of your friends to see. To begin, you must create a gallery. Name it something related to the pictures that you would be posting. Creating several galleries will make it easier for your friends to see the pictures you want them to see. Enter gallery name in the “Add a New Gallery” box. Click “Add New Gallery” button once name is entered. From their, click on “Upload Photos to (gallery name).” Hit the “Browse” button to select the picture stored on your computer. Once you have selected, give that photo a name, as you would like it to appear in your media gallery. You can choose several files to upload at one time – to make creating your media gallery easier. Click “Upload Photo” once finished. You have now created a media gallery. Feel free to add to that one, or to create new ones to categorize your pictures. Page Settings – Your page settings holds several options for your MommyTalk.com account and webpage appearance. Those include: MommyTalk.com Music Player – Choose between several different songs to play on your webpage. Preview them by choosing a song and hitting the “Preview” button. Click on “Set As Homepage Song” to choose that song for your homepage. Surfing Settings – Click “Yes” next to Autoplay music to play your homepage song. Choose a “Forum Signature” to display on all of your forum posts. Choose a picture for your forum profile by uploading a picture to your “Forum Avatar.” Profile Display Settings – Choose the information that will and won’t show up on your webpage. Kid’s Profile Display Settings – Choose the information that will and won’t show up on your kid’s webpage. Custom Page Styles – Decorate your webpage as you see fit. You can create custom picture backgrounds. This can be done by choosing a picture for both your custom background (inside) and custom background (outside). You can also choose from several MommyTalk.com page styles. Choose the one that sounds fun to you. Instant Message Handles – Feel free to share your IM handles with your friends. Account Details – Update your information whenever you want. You can also change your online handle, password, email alerts and privacy settings. ALSO, this is where you choose the picture you want to show up on your profile page. Choose next to the “Current Photo” section.
Underneath this, you will find the “My Services” section. This is where you can access some of your additional MommyTalk.com services. Those include:
Calendar – Create your own personal calendar to help track events. Click on “Add Event” to add a new event. You can choose the title, subtitle, description, dates, who has access and photos for it as well. Forum – Get access to a family-friendly forum. See other’s questions and answer if you want. Ask other parents questions that you would like some help with / answers to. Choose the corresponding section if you would like to post a new question. Click on “Start New Thread” in that category to create a new post. Give it a title and post away! If you would like to add on to an existing post, click on that post. Once there, click on “Post Reply” to share your insight.
Other MommyTalk.com Functions: We are proud to offer our members a large lineup of services some additional services and features that we offer include:
Start a Group - With MommyTalk's "Groups" page, you can set up specialized groups for you and your friends (or to make new friends!), with private messaging, private discussion forums, and coming soon live private chat! Click on “Groups” in the top menu bar. You can see groups that you are already part of in “My Groups.” You can search groups by clicking on “Search” (this allows you to search by keyword) or “Browse” (lists all groups). Choose a group that you would like to join. Depending on the Membership Type, you may have to be accepted to join or open to join automatically. Once you are a member of that group, you will get access to a multitude of services for that group. They work just like your individual MommyTalk.com services. Games – Self-explanatory. Click on “Games” to get access to some really fun games! Click on the game you want to play and enjoy! Chat – Access a “real-time” conversation area. Hosted MommyTalk.com chats take place in this area. Features – Get access to daily articles on all things parenting. Classifieds – Buy and sell products from other members. Find the section that you want to post / shop on. Posting something on the classified section is extremely easy and fast. Search – Search for other MommyTalkers by username, city and/or state. Access this search area on the “User Profile” page. Point Rating System – Give and receive points for forum posts, profiles, blogs, pictures and more. To give points, just click on the amount of stars you want to give a user in that corresponding section. Send them a comment along with your point rewards!
