I made calebs first birthday cake. and let me tell you i think it was awesome.  but i wanted to share my idea with you. instead of buying the cake from the store ask for kits. if they happen to be in what ever new movie is out see if you can find toys at mcdonalds or walmart or something to add something extra. or you can go through your decorating stuff and see what you find.

for calebs cake i used a shrek the third cake kit and added mcdonalds baby ogres to the cake actually only one was on the cake , later i sat the other to on each side of the cake. we used chocolate and peanut butter chips, and food coloring for the frosting. and we used flat chocolates to make the trees higher. we made a sign from a yellow index card and i drew the warning baby ogre sign. and to top a 1 year candle.

FANTASTIC Cake!! Homemade birthday cakes are a favorite childhood memory and one of the things I've enjoyed doing for my cousin and had a blast with Rivers 1st!

well i am gonna post one more picture later. its pretty much the same but clearer. the best part was the cake mix was a dollar, icing was 1.33 a piece, i used 3. to do the colors. i already had food coloring and the choco chips. candle was a dollar. the kit was 5. so it was 11 dollars all together, the cake premade was 23. and the premade didn't have as much stuff. so. i think its better. yay.

Sam, it is a very cute cake.  I have to admit that I totally get a kick out of making Ammon's birthday cakes.  I remember that my mother used to always make ours, we never had store bought cakes.  So I have vowed that no matter how ugly it turns out, I am always going to make his birthday cake!
