Rep points: 3467 Send PM | Biggest problem in today's schools Posted: 3 yearss ago Let me preface my response by stating that there is a plethora of problems with our schools, selecting just one is next to impossible, because they are interwoven into a tapestry of cause and effect. Unlike many people, I do not blame the teachers or the parents. I believe there are parents who take a genuine interest in their childrens education and upbringing, and do their best. However, what they try to instill is not always reflected in the schools, and what is taught in school is not always reinforced at home, creating confusion in minds that are extremely impressionable. As for the God or religion issue, most people confuse the two. There's a big difference from trying to force the dogmas of an "organized religion" on someone and having an honest dialogue about God. I do not believe that religious beliefs should be forced on anyone much less our children. They should be exposed to that in their homes and places of worship. However, to blindly ignore the importance of God in the foundation of our country is just as great if not greater injustice. Taking God out of school has taken away a moral foundation and replaced it with a morality that's predicated on the values of whoever is in charge and designing our curriculums, which changes from person to person based on what they believe and value, meaning there are no absolutes, since every value is regarded as equal. With no absolutes, then whatever a person feels is right is justified, whether is harmful and detrimental to others or not. This erodes respect for others, especially those in authority, since children rights and views are just as valid as those in charge(in this new world view). Next we tie the hands of parents and teachers to correct misbehavior. While, we cannot "beat" children, a spanking done in the proper manner and as a last resort can and has done wonders to correct misbehavior, letting them know there are consequences. Nowdays, when a person ends up in prison or on death's row, we rush in to blame the parents and teachers. Tell me how this is fair, we take away any effective deterents, then blame them when a child grows up to be a disrespectful "adult". We cannot have it both ways. Overcrowding is and will continue to be a problem, but when stars are idolized and paid millions, while teachers can barely make ends meet this will never change. Government cannot magically cure all these ills, in fact its interference has exacerbated some of the problems rather than provide solutions. People need to understand that "Daddy" government does not, nor should it be expected to have the solutions to all our problems. That is one of the greatest problems facing society today. The answers have got to come from each of us, we cannot delegate them to others and expect the results we desire. There have got to be absolutes. Respect and honest values need to be taught and consequences delivered, when warranted. Political correctness is killing this nation and destroying generations to come.

Pardon those who took beat wrong. But a swift kick in the butt has been known to do wonders. I personnally feel there is no longer any kind of structure in school. Politically correctness is pure bull. Why should I care if someone is offended, they don't care about offending me. I went to a school of a population of almost 4,000 . I loved it, i never once thought it was over crowded. It set me up for life in college. But thats a big city for you. Teachers are well educated, but i know quite a few who retired because teens are so disrespectful and full of it. Unfortunately my generation is a self obsessed , know it all, wanna be gen. And we have set low standards for those following after us. It has only started. When the my rights here and my rights there become more of a topic in school rather then actual education; there is the problem. Oh and for the conservative, we are told to shut up , because we are always discriminating. My bad, i didn't know good judgement and following the morals and values my parents taught me was wrong. You are in tip toes in school; because the minority have bigger mouths so to speak , so what they want is what is set up. And your right, also in the fact that liberals are running these schools more often. I should't have to go to a christian school to pray, that would be like me telling mary to go to a witch craft school. No its called tolerance, and the only people expected to have any are christians. |

I agree with Sammi and Antygamma..... If you look at some of the younger generation today and too see how bad the violence is you have gangs or kids or teenagers who just think that they are bad ass (excuse my lang) and get guns from anywhere and just start shooting people.... 1. it's probably b/c there parents aren't around enough 2. they probably have never stepped foot into a church or 3. just the road that they chose to go down. I think it's great that they have a moment of silence in schools. Also I think its great to have a prayer time. They don't teach children enough education these days in schools anyway. I just greaduated five years ago and to tell you the truth when I started to go to college I had to start all over again, they didn't teach me anything that I needed to know. Violence is crazy these days and it's said. Schools have cops in them all the time right down the street from me 6 cops cars everyday at a middle school. Kids bring knives and guns to school b/c they think that they are grown. To tell you the truth I'm ending my opinion its crazy how life is but GOD is most def a great thing for anyone to have in there life you should feel honored and great to have someone in your life as great as him.

The biggest problem WITH schools are politicians. THE END |

I hear you about respect your elders..... today on the news a young man beat a blind man stole his cane and his money... a few weeks ago when that elderly man who was a vet who got the crap beat out of him.... ppl just don't care anymore, yeah it's some parents but some teachers could give two $#%*!! ...s and let children do whatever they want too. For example I remember two teachers who got arrested for smoking up with students.... let them skip class all the time.... I agree that there are some parents that don't help but there are some teacher out there too!!!!!!!!! |

As a parent you cant correct your child any more and some of them just dont give a crap. Its easier to let them do what they want then to correct the problem. As far as the teachers all they want now is to dope them up instead of deal with the problem. Now they have in school suspension what is that teaching them when they get to do what they want in there. Around my area they have it saturday mornings. O Wow lets go to school for like an hour sit there do what we want and then go home and run free. Thats really teaching them. Yea there are some kids that get abused and there are some that just need a good butt whopping. But at the same time think about our parents and grandparents and so on. They got the $#%*!! ... knocked out of them and they learned that was a no no and they respected there elders. I am only 29 and when I got out of line I found out I did wrong. And in school back then they had a paddle to let u know that u dont do that again or else next time it will be worse. You got it in school then went home and Daddy would do it again to remind you. But they were teaching us not hurting us. I mean it hurt but we learned. And at that time there was also abuse going on. Now they have to where what ever the age of the child is how long there on time out. Yep that teaches them alot. Ok I will shut up now but i could keep going and going. Michelle
