Our family rarely goes anywhere together.  My car is the only car that will seat all 6 of us so if we are going together, hubby drives.

Personally I think he is a terrible driver, although he constantly picks on me for my driving. He thinks I drive too slow (the speed limit or maybe 5 over), I use my turn signal too often (when turning or changing lanes) and I insist on stopping before the white line (so my car isn't in the cross walk).  I always make sure to point out that he has been in upteen accidents, including one with our entire family and my parents on the way to my birthday dinner.

I guess I should be thrilled that the new car he bought himself only seats 4 so he will almost never be taking my children anywhere.Laughing

I loved the Ramona Collection by Beverly Cleary.  Those were always my favorites when I was little.  For my children, Tickle Kingdom by Robert D. Harris and The Seed & the Giant Saguaro by Jennifer Ward.  Both are great books!

I have just ordered an entire collection of books for me to read to my kids for storytime while they are home for summer break.  My son's school had the author for a book signing this past week, so we just ordered all 6 books and each one was autographed for him.  Way cool.  It is a collection of Charlie books by C.A. Goody.  We are all looking forward to getting started on reading these books!Smile

Great information.

We all know that most fast food isn't really all that healthy.  There are some good choices and portion sizes are key.  Besides that, fast food is expensive, which is why we try and limit our consumption over here.  It is a nice to eat out every now and then and the kids do enjoy the treat.

Thanks for posting Holly!  :0)

I am the oldest by 13 months.  My sister and I were treated exactly the same.  We were the same size, so we always had the same clothes (mom dressed us like twins) and we had to share all of our toys.  As we got older, we each got our own things, so there was always 2 of everything.  My sister was a brain and had tons of friends.  She was extremely outgoing.  I on the other hand, had to study to get A's, was not popular and kind of a wall flower.  Life changed after my parents and sister were in a terrible car accident.  My sister sustained some brain damage, she did recover, but she has really never been the same.  The last 2 years of High School were difficult.  Since I was the oldest I always felt the need to make my parents proud.  Not that I didn't want to, and it wasn't to hard since my sister was always doing things she wasn't supposed to, but I might have enjoyed HS more had the situation been different.  Those were definately not the best years of my life.

The teacher does seem to have taken her authority just a tad to seriously.  I see how I get frustrated just taking care of my 4, I can't imagine having a class full of 25 students that misbehave, however, treating a 5 year old in that manner seems totally wrong.

I am a little surprised that there was no mention of what the child did wrong on that day, or on any of the other days.  He must have done something, which the parents were clearly aware of since the teacher was supposed to come up with some type of discipline plan.  I also found it odd that the mother said she didn't believe he had done any of the things the teacher said he did, but the step-dad was irritated that the teacher didn't have time to talk to him about putting a discipline plan in place.  Either you believe your child is innocent of any misbehavior and doesn't need a discipline plan, or you KNOW that he is making poor choices and needs to take responsibility for his actions.  Either way, the teacher was WRONG, having a bad day does not entitle you to treat anyone that way.  The teacher should have taken the child aside and spoken with him or sent him to the principle's office.

Of course just my 2 cents...

Right now, I am trying to get myself back into eating healthy again.  I find myself the most hungry around 3pm.  I try and just have water and a piece of fruit or some soy crisps.  I take snacks with me if I am going to be out and about.  It helps me with the bad cravings.

After my recent weight gain, (30 lbs. in 3 months...yep you read that right...), I make sure that I don't eat 2 hours before I go to bed.  Doc says otherwise your body doesn't have time to process the food and it is stored as fat (or something like that....she lost me at "turns to fat". LOL!)  I do find this hard, because we eat dinner between 4-5 pm, so when I stay up late and hadn't anticipated doing that, I am starving by 9pm.

Well, at least my efforts following these new rules are paying off.  Six lbs. down according to doc's scale. Yippee!

My work weeks ususally consist of 3 days BUT my shifts are 24hrs.

You have to work 72 hours a week?  You really do love your job!  Laughing

My hubby works four 10 hour days, however, I do not find his hours great for family life.  He is not here for any meals and just barely makes it home in time to kiss his kids goodnight, pending he actually gets off on time and traffic isn't too bad.  I probably would like it much better if he actually had those 3 days left in the week for family time, however, his toys over the years (boats, motorcycles, & new cars) have him working a 2nd job, so 2 of those 3 days he works nights and the last day he has to sleep.  He reminds me often that when he retires we will have tons of time together, the kids will be grown, but I guess I will benefit from that. Hmmm... I might just have to get a full-time job then.Wink

I was a Brownie when I was a girl back in Chicago.  I went through the ceremony to be inducted into the Girl Scouts (if my memory serves me correctly it was this whole walking over a bridge thing, of course, my memory kinda of stinks these days. LOL!).  Anyway, the Girl Scout Meetings were held in the basement of a building and it had snakes.  Yep, I was scared and my Mom didn't do snakes so I didn't go back.

So far, none of my kids has ever shown and interest in being in the Scouts, so we haven't been doing it here.  If they should ask, that would be a whole different thing.  Although, even though we are not in Chicago anymore, and just like my Mom, I DON'T do SNAKES!Laughing

LOL!  How do you not notice a mattress in your closet?  Besides that, food would have been missing for more than just a few months, or at least you would think and I would guess that she didn't have a key, so did she never leave?

I would have to agree that she needs help.  Hopefully she can get what she needs.
