Been there...done that!  What a bummer....especially for your son,  if anything like my children, will be devastated by the loss of his favorite straw.  We have lost a few plastic lids, cups, and kids plastic silverware to the dishwasher's heating element, so now I only use the air dry feature.

My hubby has taken several vacations over the years.  It is a nice break, a little more work for me, but the schedule at home stays the same. The children don't spend that much time with their dad because of his work schedule and hours, so when he isn't here it really doesn't make that much difference to them.  It does mean I have to take out the trash (yuck) and mow the lawn (yeah, I love mowing the lawn and he doesn't like for me to do it ).

The article was an eye opener for me.  I think that I will try some of the tips that were suggested should any of these issues come up.  So far there have been no real "whoppers" over here.  They kid around, but so far always tell the truth. 

My eldest on the other hand, lied when she was younger and I put vinegar on her tongue.  She didn't like it very much and I believe that is what kept her from lying during her middle school years.  Just the thought of having to taste the vinegar again would have the truth flying out of her mouth.  However, she doesn't like the smell of vinegar now either, so if I have used it to make homemade BBQ sauce or to clean, she runs out of the room gagging.
