My youngest daughter had just turned 4 when she had her tonsils and adenoids (sp) removed.  She had been getting strep throat so often that is was a necessity.  If I remember correctly...something like 6 times in 7 months.  It was alot!  She was 't even the child that was in school!

We were concerned about the surgery and her recovery and she did quite well.  The examples of previous children we knew that had had the surgery, were two of our neighbors' daughters and each one of their children were difficult at best about eating, drinking, & taking their medication.

My little one did take her medication with prompting and small rewards (she doesn't like medication at all!), and at the time Jamba Juice was her favorite drink of all time.  I went there and had a large one made and asked for several small cups which they graciously gave to me.  I split up the drink so there was enough for some every day.  The most important thing besides medication is keeping your little one hydrated.  If you keep a stricit medication schedule (we did,  including waking her up in the middle of the night), the pain doesn't ever get too bad.

Luckily for us, our doctor was up front and let us know how difficult the entire process was going to be.  He didn't sugar coat it so we were well prepared.  We had "sleep overs" in her room to keep an eye on her for the first 2 weeks as well.  We wanted her to be comfortable, so we felt having her sleep in her own room instead of sleeping with us was the best idea.  The pain meds were constipating, so I made her pancakes almost everyday with prune juice instead of water (I know gross, huh?!).  The pancakes were soft on her throat and with all the syrup she didn't notice the taste and was kept regular.  Nobody wants tummy back up when you already are feeling bad!

Anyway...so sorry about the long post....just thought it best to let you know that although it might be scary, it might be really hard, and frustrating at times, it was well worth it!  I would do it again in a heart beat!  My other children have all had strep throat since my youngest had her tonsils removed (they thought she was the carrier....obviously not!), and she has not had it again in over 1 1/2 years!

Best Wishes on whatever you decide to do. Smile

We mainly eat whole wheat or whole grain bread.  The kids have had white bread before, but they they seem to prefer wheat.Smile

Today is my 17th wedding anniversary.  Hubby had to work last night, so he is sleeping now.  We will have family over later for game night.  I am so excited to spend some real quality time with loved ones!  That, and my SIL is bringing us her homemade Chicken Enchiladas for dinner!  Yum!  =0)

Guess I should start doing some cleaning.....

Have you checked with your school yet?  My youngest son had speech problems.  He was tested...for free...through the school system and qualified for preschool at no cost to me.  It was all funded through the school district.  It might be worth giving the school a call.  He was picked up by bus from my front door, went to preschool 4 days per week for 2 1/2 hours, and was brought back to my front door when school was over.  The program did wonders for his speech.  He started kindergarten with his peers with no speech problems.

My kids have been sick for several days, so I stayed home and got a few chores done while hubby went to a Super Bowl Party.  I did watch the last 45 minutes of the game with my eldest daughter.

Great article!

I can hardly believe where the time has gone myself.  My oldest daughter is about to turn 16, she is getting ready to drive and already thinking ahead to what she wants to do for her "Sweet 16".  My youngest is in Kindergarten and so independent.  Then there is my eldest son who already has a mustache.  WOW!  Even his dad can't grow a mustache that good!  My youngest son is amazing me with all kinds of grown up questions lately....where has my little peanut gone! (He would be so embarrased if I called him that!)

Enjoy each and every day!

That will certainly make me think twice about buying gift cards.  Wow!  I guess cash is the safest option.

Thanks for posting.
