When I was a teenager, we lived in a townhouse.  My bedroom was right above my parents room.  They could hear me rolling over in bed, so sneaking out was out of the question.  My Mom was a very light sleeper.  I was a pretty good kid, never getting into much trouble anyways.  I always asked permission to go out, let my parents know where I was going, and called when I was going to be late.

I would totally agree that the holidays can be stressful.  I do all the preparations...cooking, cleaning, gift buying/shopping, and wrapping.  It can be overwhelming at times with my already busy schedule.  I do enjoy the spirit of the season and the excitement that I see in my children.  Thankfully the holidays are primarily all towards the end of the year....just imagine if there was a big holiday every month! Oui Vey! Laughing

The oddest things I have ever received for gifts seem to come from family members.  A large ceramic donkey pulling a wooden cart...this was for my front yard. Yuck!  A large fat naked woman holding only seashells...just finally got rid of this after like tens years....trying not to insult the gift giver.  A paper mache Macaw made out of leather hanging on a perch...this was hung in my first house for years... I hated it!  Again, didn't want to insult the gift giver. A wind chime with ceramic birds, a ceramic naked Indian woman leaning over kneading, and several bold color paper flowers (they were about 2 feet tall a piece).

That is all I can think of right now. Laughing

On my 21st birthday I was pregnant with my first child.  I don't remember what we did that day, but since I had morning sickness all day long...chances are, at some point during that day, I was throwing up. Laughing

I just love it when people offer their well intentioned advice. Tongue out LOL!

Sometimes it is not appreciated, especially by those whom have no children, but think they can parent a child better than you. LOL!  I always know they mean well, smile, and thank them for their advice.  Then I just do what I do best....be my children's Mom!  Smile

I have hidden my childrens presents in the storage containers that the artificial tree came out of, in the garage cabinets.  That is somewhere I don't think they would ever look.  We have hidden gifts at our neighbors homes before.  The children don't seem to have been "looking", but the youngest 3 still believe in Santa, so they don't think he has been here yet.  They do ask everyday, "How many days until Christmas?", so I know that it is on their minds. LOL!Smile

Great article!  Many of the things that she mentions, I already do, I just didn't realize how important they were and that it helps my children feel emotionally safe in our home.  There is a suggestion that I will try...using a calm voice when siblings are arguing...that doesn't usually happen...Smile

I don't remember which movies I saw first as a child.  I do remember my parents taking us to the drive in, where they were going to see a movie, and my sister and I got to watch the cartoons that they showed first.  Then, we had to climb to the back of the car and go to sleep.

Every now and then, we would peek our heads up and try and watch.  My Mom would quickly tell us to go to sleep. LOL!

I do remember seeing ET, Return of the Jedi, & D.A.R.Y.L. as a kid.  When we moved to AZ from IL, my Mom signed us up for the summer movie program through Harkins.  We got to see tons of movies!  It was alot of fun. Smile

We go to my parents for Christmas Eve.  They make home made spaghetti, ravioli, sausage, and sauce.  We always have breadsticks with our meal, a salad, and tons of home baked desserts.  I can't wait!

For Christmas Day both sides of the family come to our home.  We had been doing a large breakfast, but this year, I want to relax and enjoy my morning especially since we have a couple big surprises for our children.  I have decided to do dinner...turkey breast & ham sandwiches on fresh baked rolls, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potato casserole, baked beans, southwest tamale and cornbread stuffing.  I am actually looking forward to cooking this year.
