KmomJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1374 | Posted: 8 months ago I was 9-18 in the 1980's. It was absolutely the best time. I really can not imagine myself growing up in another decade. I did it all in the 80's - first crush, first kiss, first drinking party, driver's license, first time skipping school, first love, first time, graduated - it was all GREAT! At times, I thought my life would end just like any teenage girl, however looking back now, I really did have a great 9 - 18 age experience. I can only really remember one tiem where I thought my parents were being totally unfair. (If it was my kids it would have been more than a weekend grounding - but I missed a BIG party). I would go back in the day anytime maybe just tweek a little to retain one friend that I totally let slide all for a boy - but we talk now when I make it back home, does that count?? Denise
KmomJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1374 | Posted: 8 months ago We were the Silver Streaks - it was a silver lightning bolt. Although we had a guy dressed as Lone Ranger for our mascot and would the band would play High Ho Silver. Thinking now - that is pretty stupic. But all the spirit of school - GO STREAKS!

KmomJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1374 | Posted: 8 months ago My moto is it is better for children to learn and ask parents stuff than them learn about it from other kids. You are doing the right thing by talking to her about it. However, I would not wait until she asks again. Open the line of communication up with her. That way later on in life, when you need to discuss these types of items with her, the embarrassment will not be there. That is why most kids do not talk to their parents is out of "OH I will get into trouble, or I am embarrassed by it" Keep up the talk, be honest, but in terms that she will understand, and if repeats will not get in trouble at school for.

I moved this to the political thread because I figured it could get heated about that whole bush and the abstinence only thing... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles ...
In a perfect world, yes abstenence would be obtianed for everyone until they are married, However we do not live in a PERFECT world. It is better to have our kids armed with the proper information instead of hear say at school from friends. Alls I am saying - does he really believe that both his girls have abstained???? Denise

Add 1 to 2 diced jalapeno peppers. (add more if you like hotter) Blend until all mixed together. The longer the sits, the hotter it will get. Denise
KmomJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1374 | Posted: 7 months ago DH & I can speak "un poco espanol." I spent 3 years in HS learing it and it is just enough to get me by, since I did not use it for so long. Hubby has picked up from working with Spanish speaking people. My kids are learing from friends at school, just the slang. When it comes time in school though I will push for them to learn a new language.

KmomJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1374 | Posted: 7 months ago First off the 16 year old girl did not live with her parents and some other parent let this girl move in with them - 1st problem. I understand a kid can not live on the street, but I would NEVER permit my child to move out of house and live with someone else & their parents. I use to live in Lakeland, FL, while I loved it there - very nice for a young family with small ones, I would never have wanted my kids to go to upper grades in HS, even back in the 90's, so I am sure it is far worse now. Back then the violence was appauling - so this happening there does not shock me. This has happened for years - however it is now in the mainstream. Back in our day it was and still is initiations into gangs. Now it is just done in middle class America so it is more media worthy. Granted, you wonder where the kids parents were/are and what they were thinking, yes that is true, but you can not teach your kid to have common sense and respect if you do not have any yourself. Half of the kids who are out there lack in these pillars of strength becuase these parents are the ones who send their kids to school to learn everything from ABC's, languarge, respect, character, and manners - and then when these kids fail the system it is the teachers and schools faults. NOT! All of these kids and parents need to look in the mirror, as the guilty party is looking right back at them. Just my 2 cents! Denise |
