Spent alot of time outside riding my bike and chasing my older brother. By 1988 my life went from good to bad in a heartbeat. That year in Febuary my Niece was born, My big brother married his daughters mother in May, I went on vacation to Washington State with my parents and I remember when I came home after two weeks seeing my brother walking out of the backyard of our house. That is the last memory I have of my brother alive. Sept 1988 my brother was killed in a freak mountain accident. My life sucked big time after that. Only highlight after that was the fact of my Nephew being born Feb 2nd 1989. And I met my first boyfriend a month later.

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 8 months ago Yes please if you can take the time to teach your little ones how to swim or even just learn how to float on thier backs it will save thier lives! I have gone nearly 3 years as an EMT without working a child drowning. I really dont want to do it but I know its bound to happen. If we take the time to make sure our children are safe around water then you wont ever have to see me at your door. Also please be aware that our little ones can drown in an inch or two of water. Ya I dont understand how but it has happened. Keep an eye out for buckets of water, toilets, dog or cat water bowls. And ALWAYS remember keep your eye on your little one. They can drown in a heartbeat and Drowning is a silent killer. There is no cry for help! Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

When I got moved to a new school it was called Roosevelt and the mascot was The Roughriders. Ya know Teddy Roosevelt and his Roughriders. In Jr High I went to Powell Jr High and their mascot was a Patriot. Never went to high school. Was home taught. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

Yes the desert states have alot of pools but people need to be made aware of where thier children are at on a daily baisis. You turn your back those little boogers will get into trouble. I was watching the news yesterday and they were talking about this very thing that it can happen to ANYONE! The person in question was a Phx Fire Captain and he was having a party for one of his children. There was a 3 yr old little boy who was facinated by the water from the time he arrived. Yes this Captn had a fence around his pool and there were tons of people including adults around including police officers and even a Doctor. Someone went thru the gate and that little boy snuck thru and right into that pool he went. By the time anyone had noticed it was too late. Its a sad thing. It can happen to anyone and everyone.

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 8 months ago I have heard to try using empty two liter pop bottles and fill partly with water and place them on thier sides. Cats supposedly hate the reflection. Havent tried that cause I have stray cats in my neighborhood. A neighbor two houses down from me feeds these damn things. Also heard to use rosebush clippings and keep the thorny branch part. Cats hate prickly things on thier paws. Or use a Paintball gun. Here in the Valley we are charged for bringing in stray cats. Id just as soon as shoot the dang things. But I cant do that cause I dont like hurting them. Last week at night I accidently hit one and killed it cause the dumb thing ran right into the rear tires of my ambulance. Felt bad tho. I HATE cats but I dont mean to cause them harm. Just make them go away and stop using our front yards as a toilet. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 8 months ago Well its already begun this year here in the Valley. Two children this past weekend nearly lost thier lives in the backyard swimming pool! One was a 2 yr old who was found at the bottom of the pool and the other was a 5 yr old boy who was found floating in the pool. He was at a birthday party and there were several adults around but somehow he slipped into the pool. I think on top of learning how to swim parents need to learn CPR!!! You can contact your local American Heart Association, YMCA or Fire Department! They all should teach CPR. There are new standards out there now for CPR. Its called Chest Compressions only CPR. What this entails is the compression part and leaving out the breathing part. AHA says that if a person witnesses someone collapsing and having no heartbeat that they should have enough oxygen in thier lungs and blood stream to be able to circulate it thru the body with compressions only. BUT and I mean BUT this does not work for drownings!!!! This is only for someone who is walking around and sees someone die in front of them. Learning the Full CPR and learning how to use an AED are the easiest thing to do. Im even a certified teacher! Its the best use of your money and time. Never know when and where you can save a life!!! PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILDREN AROUND WATER!!! Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 8 months ago I just thought of something... Try your local parks and rec. I think they may offer a class. I know there are also independant places that are CPR/AED trainers. And using an AED is basically idiot proof! All you do is apply the sticky pads to the chest like the pictures show and you hit the ON button. Then it will tell you what to do from there. If you dont know what an AED is then I shall explain! An AED is an Automated External Difibulator. Its like what the hospital will use or Us in the EMS field will use to jumpstart your heart. Some genius person created one for regular ole people to use in case someones heart stops. Its great! You can find them in large public places like the Airport and Malls. I bet ya if you wander the mall or are at the Airport look for one and you'll find it. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 8 months ago My old neighborhood use to have alot of cats. Then one day the numbers started dwindling. I was confused until one evening I saw a pack of coyotes. That took care of the stray cat problem. I heard from my husband that we had a couple running thru this neighborhood.
