He had massive meconium aspiration and spent two weeks in the NICU. When I got pregnant with my daughter in 1995 I told my Dr that I refuse to go anymore then 3 days over my due date because of what happened. He said ok. So 3 days after my due day we induced. I think if you talk with your Dr and make a comprimise with this he/she shouldnt have a problem. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

I put up with them but I just dont like them. After that idea I really wasnt sure what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to do something in the medical field but I wasnt willing to go to school long enough to be a Dr. I like being on the front line helping people. I think that is where I work the best. My son thinks he wants to be in the Armed Services. I told him that is perfectly fine. I support whatever he wants to do. My daughter still hasnt made up her mind. She wants to be a Vet or and Actress. Lets go with Vet! Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago Baby seats recalled due to head injuries Thu Oct 25, 11:50 AM ET
The baby seats, made by Bumbo International of South Africa, sold for about $40 each from August 2003 through October 2007. Retailers that sold the product also included Sears Holdings, Kmart, Toys "R" Us, USA Babies, it said. The round Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats are 15 inches in diameter and made of molded polyurethane foam that wraps around a child. Consumers should contact Bumbo to obtain new warning label stickers and instructions for the recalled baby seats and should never use the infant seat on a table, countertop, chair or other elevated surface, the agency said. On its Web site, Bumbo said it temporarily stopped selling the baby seat until safety packaging can be updated. "The Bumbo Baby Seat is safe when used properly, but we have voluntarily agreed to update the packaging to ensure there is no confusion about the safe, proper use of the Bumbo Baby Seat," the company said. The baby seat is designed for infants who are six weeks old or able to support their own heads, up to an age of about 12 to 14 months or about 22 pounds, Bumbo said. A photograph of the recalled product and other information was posted on the agency's Web site at: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/0 ... For the little ones to help them to understand how long to wash have them sing the alphabet twice. Use handsanatizer also. I like to use the clorox wipes to wipe down the doorknobs or any surface that gets touched alot.

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago I think there is alot that our kids are loosing out on. Nobody takes responsibility for our children and thier actions. What gets me is the behavior of kids and the lack of parents being able to control it. It really irritates me that we cannot disapline our kids without fear of CPS being on our doorstep. Most kids these days run the house and the schools and it is irritating. Parents need to be in charge. When I was a kid I was terrfied of my Dad. He barked too much at my brother and I didnt want to get into trouble like him. Spare the rod, spoil the child. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago Here is a story of one of my calls that I had Friday evening. Friday evening we got kicked out for a call up North Mesa. It was for a bike accident where a 10 yr old boy wrecked his mountain bike and hit his head on the asphalt. We got there in a hurry cause calls involving children tend to make me move alot faster then normal. We get to the house where this child was laying on the couch and I kept hearing him repeat himself the same thing over and over again. I was thinking to myself he has a concussion or a head injury. Sometimes its more calming when I am there. Im a mother and I know how to calm kids down in a hurried situation. Having all those big firefighters there rushing about tends to frighten children. So I got myself in the middle of things and I needed to put a c-collar on this boys neck. While doing so I calmed him down and explained what happened to him and what we all were doing to him. We ended up strapping this child down to a backboard to restrict his movement unsure if he had a neck or spinal injury. All the while he kept asking if he was in a bike accident and that he couldnt remember where his mother was. We asked the Father if he was wearing a bike helmet. The Father said no, that it was a struggle to get him to wear it. He said its a daily fight to get him to put on that helmet. Now we are taking his 10 yr old son to Maricopa County Trauma center cause he at least had a serious concussion but it could have been worse. Could have had a serious head injury. Before I left the Father and son I told them both... The Fire Department says No Helmet... No Bike!!! A Hard Lesson learned! Please Mom and Dad. No matter how much these kids of ours complain that they look like a geek or its uncomfortable.. remind them that if something happens and they end up falling, they will hit thier heads. A helmet will protect that head and it will keep me from taking your child to a trauma center. Remind them.... If they are not on thier own two feet or in the car they must have a helmet on thier heads. No Helmet.. No Bikes, Skates, Skateboards, Scooters.

keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago I honestly dont think 16 through 18 yr olds are responsible enough to handle a vehicle. I was 20 when I got my license. Since I have become an EMT I cannot tell you how many car wrecks that I have worked where it involved at least one driver being a teenager. I know there are a few teens out there that are responsible enough to handle a car but there are more that arent. One of my last accidents involved a teenage driver and he decided to try that Drifitng that people do alot. Well he missed and plowed right into a wooden telephone pole. Honestly I think the driving skills were not instilled properly into kids before being let loose. I beleive its up to us parents to teach our kids right. And we are failing them. The school system gives them the book smarts but its up to us parents to give them the street smarts too. Teach them early how to manage a car. Not saying hand over the keys to a 10 yr old but teach them by example. Always wear a seatbelt. Dont do any sort of distracting behavior like texting, calling on the phone, eating or even putting on makeup. I think if we follow the rules of the road enough times a child will learn how to manage a vehicle when they are ready. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago I think he will be ok but thats ususally the problem. We just dont hear about what happens to our patients afterwards. The outcome could have definately been worse. I think back in our day as kids there wasnt as many people and cars around as there are now. Just need to make sure they have that helmet on. I know one boy who was riding his skateboard down a hilly road and he fell off, hit his head and now is in a coma due to that. Its nice being an EMT cause I always bring home stories or even pictures of accidents to my kids and explain to them what happened and what could have been done to change that. I told my kids about this boy and if he had a helmet on he could have gotten up and walked away. But now hes in the hospital with a head injury. All the boy kept asking if he was going to be retarded because of it, where his mom was and if he wrecked his bike. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago It scares me when I see teenages drive sometimes. Yes there are alot of kids that drive very well but thats rare. Teenagers think that nothing will happen to them. Well Im here to tell ya that is wrong. I have taken many to the hospital and several who ended up being organ donors. As evidence a call I ran on Valentines day. A 21 yr old girl was speeding down the road in her little truck and blew through a red light. Well she didnt notice that Yukon coming through the green light. After the collision I found her when pulling up on scene in the middle of the intersection bent in directions that a body should have been. But I found a faint heartbeat and we started working her in the ambulance. Im doing CPR on this girl hoping her heart would restart. We got her to the trauma center but before we left we found out that she as a fracture to her neck that was at the base of her skull. All we did was keep her going long enough to donate her organs. The police knew of her from previous stops for speeding and running red lights. This time it caught up with her. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago To get into the Holloween Spirit- How many of you believe in Ghosts or spirits? I certainly do. I have at least three that reside in my home. They are nothing scary, cause no harm or damage a thing. I have one that is a Young woman about 30 something, one that is a young boy about 6 or 7 yrs old and the other is a older woman about 58 or 59 yrs old. I know Im not crazy or hearing things. My own kids have seen two of them. I hear the little boy calling for his Momma and have seen him running through my house. And I have heard the one woman speaking in my ear when I was trying to sleep but nobody was there. I have spoken to the older woman. She happens to be my partner's Mother who passed away a year ago November. She wants to tell me him that she was sorry for not being in the right frame of mind over the past few years before she died. She ended up passing away from a brain tumor. I am mainly a person that hears the deceased rather then seeing them but with the three that live in my house I occationally see them. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive!
keriazJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1719 | Posted: 1 years ago I know when I was 17 and home alone I saw my guardian angel. I remember that I standing in my bedroom with headphones on listening to music. Out of the corner of my eye I saw this rather large man standing there in my doorway. I could plainly see that he was wearing regular clothes and had long hair. When I looked directly at him he was gone. I checked the house quickly to make sure the doors and windows were locked. They were. Upon returning to my bedroom I noticed something glinting off my door frame. So I turned on the hall light and tilted my head abit and I saw three clear crosses marked on my wooden door frame. One at the top, one on each sides. I touched it and it wasnt wet or sticky. I told my Mother and she thought it was just plain cool. She said it was my gaurdian angel protecting me. My Mother has said that I am what they call a sensitive and I agree. Solamente el fuertes sobreviven - Only the Strong Survive! |
