azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago Thanks. I feel a little more comforted knowing that this something normal. I guess when it happens for the first time with YOUR child, its just shocking. We have had talks about inappropriate touching. So the kids do know that. Its just the other stuff that I feel really uncomfortable talking to them about. If I see you later Scarletsdad, let me know what books you read to Scarlet. If I dont see you, I'll pm ya. Reading a book, then talking about it seems a lot better than me stumbling around for words. Thanks to all of you for the help. I really needed it!! Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago That was a great article Lorraine!! Since I have discovered mommytalk, it has helped me out a lot. Everyday I stop in to see what is going on. I have learned a lot from other parents here, and I have had lots of fun too. In the past I have joined other discussion boards, but none of them have the members like you find here at mommytalk. I have never once seen anyone be mean or judging toward any another member, and everyone here is so friendly and willing to help you. And that is why I LOVE mommytalk.

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago Thats so sad. If there had been previous problems with that dog something should have been done. I believe if there have been numerous reports about a dog, the authorities should be able to step in and do something. Too many times it is left as the owners responsibility, and nothing is ever done until its too late.

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago That was a cute story. We were able to stay awake, but missed the ball drop. We were watching 'Dog, the bounty hunter", I completely lost track of time. Maybe next year!! Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago That was a great article Shelice!! What got me most was the part of putting your oxygen mask on first then your childs. It is complete instinct to help your child first before yourself. But like you pointed out, without "you" how can "you" help your child. I know I am really bad at putting my kids and family first. I feel like I am being selfish or not doing my job if I dont. One thing that has really helped me find time for myself is at night. I have a favorite soap that I record everyday. So a couple nights a week after the kids are in bed I get to catch up with my show. No interuptions, no one needing my attention, its just me and my show. Then when its time for me to go to bed I feel more relaxed, and ready for the next day. And on days that are really tough it gives me something to look foward to.Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago There are a lot of shows I like. My 3 favorite are: Prison Break, Lost, and Desperate Housewives. The shows I watch during the day are: The View, Charmed, and Days of our Lives. I also record Guiding Light and watch that at night. I also like some reality shows like: Dog the Bounty Hunter, The Dog Whisperer, Driving Force, Hogan knows best, Man vs. Wild, Survivorman, and Dirty Jobs. And I also like the news. I am constanlty flipping back and forth to the news channels. Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago I saw him all over the news last night. He is amazing! To be able to think and react that fast, and for a complete stranger. He definetly is a hero!!Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago His smoking!!! I have been surrounded by smokers since I was born, but it seems as I get older the worse the smoke bothers me. After that it would be the constant questions. Where's the pepper, where's the mayo, where's my shoes, do I have any clean pants??? Aaagghh!!! That really drives me crazy. I always tell him he is worse than the kids!! Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago Hi Sarah!! Welcome to mommytalk!! I have 3 kids: Alexis 7, Steven 6, and Jacob 21 months. I am also a SAHM, and keeping Jacob busy is a full time job in itself. He really likes music, so we watch A LOT of the Wiggles. We also sing a lot. He loves hand games, so we are always singing songs like "Patty Cake", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", and the latest is "Head, Shoulders" I also use whatever toys he is really into to keep him busy. As with most toddlers, he loses interest really quick. So we are constantly going back and forth between activities. For Christmas the kids got a play-doh set, and he loves it. Hope that helped a little. I look foward to talking with you again!! Heather Heather

azheatherJoined: 9/02/06 Posts: 1038 | Posted: 2 yearss ago I'd be able to help someone in trouble. In that specific situation though, Im not sure. Throwing yourself on top of him while the subway goes over both of you?? If I was absolutely sure it would work than yeah. But in a split second like that I truly dont know. I'm not sure my brain would be able to react that fast. In any other situation, like a car wreck or something else, I know I would be able to help. Heather

Kinda makes ya think tho. Would we or could we do something like that? As long as your not touching the 3rd rail you should be fine. Wow.
I didnt know that. So in that situation I would have made a bad thing worse. Heather
