Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago As completely irritating as this all is, it really is nice to know that you're not the only one. I say yes to all: the sock monster, the underpants gnomes, the remote control and shoe gremlins...all of it. It's all true. There may not be any such thing as the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny, but these are frighteningly real!!! Just this summer, I FINALLY found the second half of my favorite pair of sandals that had been MIA for more than 3 years. I was SO excited!!! And the underwear....honestly....it's not just the kids either. My husband never has any, despite the fact that the washer and dryer almost never stop running. And the poor lonely socks.....we too have the basket of socks mourning the loss of their partners...on rare occasions I will find that the missing half has found his way to the basket to rejoin his friend, but sadly, it is usually only found again if the other has been thrown away. Like Holly said, I don't think this war will end as long as there are little feet (and butts, I suppose)... "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago Hello! I just wanted to let you know that along with Holly, I have added a prayer for you and your baby in the Call on Jesus group forum. You will continue to be in my prayers! I haven't had this same problem, but I did end up on bed rest with my second pregnancy, so I do understand how tough it can be to be on bed rest with a busy toddler to care for. If there is anything I can do to be of help, please let me know. And again, know that you are in my prayers! Take care and God bless you dear! Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago That's a great question....we are just on the tail-end of that with our son (ok, that was a REALLY bad pun, and totally not intended...sorry). Anyway, I have learned a couple of things....first of all, what works for one kid doesn't neccesarily for another (or for the same kid on a different occasion sometimes). For us, the pull-up thing never really worked. They knew that they hold just like a diaper, and they just proceeded to use it as one. I don't know if others have had much luck with them, but we didn't with either kid. Also, they both just wanted to use the little seat that you put on the big potty. Anyway, for both of them, it was just shortly after turning 3 that we got them trained. You definitely want to pick a time that's not crazy busy and you have the time to really work on it, because once you start you don't want to have to start over. When they know and can tell you or signal that they are about to go, they are probably ready. I agree that it's good to start out by making a game of just sitting on the potty and getting used to it. Both of these two wanted to do that without our prompting. The actual "going" on the potty was a different story. With Emma, I knew that she was perfectly capable and ready. So I picked a morning at the beginning of a several-day stretch when we didn't have a lot going on and just put the underwear on her. We had a couple accidents where we didn't quite make it to the potty in time. But mostly went well. With Timothy, he asked 2 weeks ago to start wearing his underwear that we had bought. I wasn't going to start it just days before I had to be out of town for 2 days, but didn't want to discourage him. We had a rough couple weeks where we had a couple really good days, and then not so much. It was REALLY tempting to just put him back in the pull-ups for a bit, but we stuck with it. It took a little bit for him to be comfortable about pooing on the potty, but I asked him what the issue was (was afraid it would hurt) and assured him it was going to be fine. Once he started that, it went better. Now we have had an almost week-long stretch of no accidents (including a 3-night stay with all of us at Grammy and Pa's house this weekend) so I think we might be good to go! There will probably still be some occasional accidents, but just stick with it! That's probably the biggest thing...once you start, just stick it out! Good luck!!

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago I'm glad that you were able to bring him in and find out what's going on. Ear and sinus infections are NOT fun!!! I know what that's like. I hope that he gets better soon. The anitbiotics should start helping really soon. I would guess that the screaming at night might be from the ear infections...that hurts worse when you're lying down. I will post a prayer right now on the Call on Jesus forum for speedy healing for Simon, and for some good rest for all of you! Take care and hang in there! Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago We haven't had a lot of trouble with mice here, at least (thankfully) not in the house. Randy put some of the sticky traps in the garage just in case. He says that we have caught a couple of mice (I didn't see them, and that's fine). But I said we really needed to reevaluate the sticky trap thing when over the course of about 2 weeks this summer, we caught 2 birds and a baby bunny on it. It was really sad and yucky. I'm just not sure if there is a really good way to go about getting rid of them, but if anyone has any ideas, I would LOVE to hear them!
