I agree with everyone's posts.  It it NOT unusual.  In fact, it's a very normal part of childhood development.  Kids are naturally curious, and if you son is an only child, he hasn't seen other kids and was probably wondering what they looked like.

I think you did a great job of sitting him down and trying to explain things.  You can keep your eye out for opportunities to talk about differences between boys and girls and privacy issues, and it sounds like you did great with letting him know that you are there to answer any questions.

Having a boy and a girl, and having had them take baths together, they are both aware of the differences.  When Emma was about 3, she came into the room while I was changing Timothy.  She looked down at him for a minute, then turned to me and said "Boys have curly butts and girls have folding butts!"  Smile

I agree with Holly and Keri.  It will take a little time for her to readjust, but it will be ok.  And the photo album thing is an excellent idea!

Also, one idea would be to see if the baby sitter would be willing to help your daughter make little crafts to send to Grandma.  They could make pictures and cards to send in the mail.  I know my kids LOVE doing that!  Then they can put it in the envelope themselves and put the stamp on, etc and put it in the mailbox.

I completely agree with everyone!  I do think that it's easier to start with sitting, just because it works better when they are smaller.  But having his dad have him try standing shouldn't hurt your efforts any.  It will just make things difficult for him, and that's his problem to deal with.

Our son Timothy will be 4 in September, and he still goes back and forth between standing and sitting.  It just depends on the moment, and both work just fine.  Best wishes! Smile

As of right now, it doesn't sound like you would need to go to the ER.  But if you are concerned, it never hurts to call and talk to the ped.  Like others said, they can give you info about what to watch for.  I do know that if they seem overly tired/difficult to wake, that is something to get checked out.  Anyway, best wishes. Smile

That does look really cool!  Plus it comes with coupons (always a bonus!!!).  We are past that stage now (which is nice) but that does look like a cool deal!  Thanks for sharing! Smile

Wow, I totally agree!  What an awesome thread!  I think this is great to get some really good information about this subject.  At this point we are really happy with our school district, but it is really nice to have more information.  My sil homeschools my niece and nephew and that has been going really well.  Best wishes to all, however you teach your kiddos! Smile

Yeah, I could not, would not be on that show myself.  But I do say more power to you, Rach! Smile

There are definitely things that I don't think the whole world needs to know about me (especially if things get twisted around) but mostly I would not feel comfortable having someone else come in and force conflicting/contradictory rules and values on my kids.  For me, we have certain rules and ways of doing things that we believe are best for our family, and I just don't want someone messing with that.  I am sure that there are a number of things that we could improve on, and that would be really interesting and probably useful, but yeah, I couldn't do it.

Although, I think one of the worst shows out there to be on (as far as airing your personal issues) is The Moment of Truth.  There is NO amount of money that could get me on THAT show!!!!!!!! Smile

Let's see...I know when I was very little we had a dog named Ginger.  I really don't remember her, but I have seen pics.

The first dog that I remember was Buddy- a Golden Retriever.  We ended up giving him to another family because of issues with our neighbors.

My first pet of my own was a little goldfish named Tangerine.  We had a couple of goldfish as class pets in my 6th grade class, and we were able to take one of the babies home at the end of the year.  That was really fun but she didn't live very long. Frown

The summer before my freshman year in high school, my sis and I each got a bunny.  My bunny, Sniff, was just a honey!  She was a white lop with gray ears and nose, and she just loved to be loved!  She would let me hold her on her back like a little baby, and would let my cousin carry her around draped over her arms.  She just loved any and all attention.  My sister's bunny, Mischief, was not as lovey as mine, to say the least!  She HATED being held (except by me) and would claw and scratch (my sister still has a scar on her cheek!).  I only had Sniff for a couple of years.  When I was a junior in high school, I went out to feed the rabbits before school, and Sniff was having seizures.  We brought her to the vet and they had to put her down (my aunt worked there and asked if there was anything at all they could do, but they said she had a neurological disorder and there really wasn't anything to do).  This was also the day we went to the airport to see my brother off to Army Basic Training.  So it was a rough day. Frown

Our first family pet since getting married is Belle, the Weimarainer puppy we got last summer.  She can be a giant pain in the butt, but she's a lot of fun! Smile

Ok, since I haven't been here lately, here are a couple.

Timothy has developed the habit of coming into our room around 7:00 or 7:30 in the morning, when he wakes up, then crawls in between us to snuggle.  On Sunday morning, he came in for snuggle time.  As we were snuggling I said to him "Did you know that Mommy always wanted my very own dude?"  He said "You did?  You wanted 2 kids?"  I said definitely!  He said "Only 2 kids?"  I said I don't know, what do you think?  Should we have 4 kids (like our neighbors)?  He said "No, that's crazy!!!!"  I said "How about 3 kids?"  "No, I don't want anymore kids."  I said "You don't want any babies at our house?"  He said "Oh yes!!!!!"  (Apparently babies are fine, but not kids.)  Smile  I asked how he thouht babies would get to our house.  He said "I don't know....from the sky?"  I asked if they would use parachutes and his face just lit up!  "Yeah!!!!!!  Jesus will build them, and they will drop down, down, down to our house!"  Then he got a very serious look on his face and sighed and said "They take a long time to build."  I said that yes, babies do take a long time to build.  He looked at me like I was crazy and said "No!!!!  Parachutes!!!!!!" Smile

Then on Monday I was at the grocery store trying to decide what to make for supper, and I decided that dh and I needed a date night.  Knowing that there was no way we were going to be able to go somewhere, I planned an at-home date night.  I fed the kids and had them ready for bed when dh got home.  We put them to bed, then grilled up the steaks that I had bought, opened a bottle of wine and had an awesome supper and a lovely evening. Smile

I agree with the above posts.  I don't think that it is uncommon to go through phases like that.  It could be teething or growth spurt issues, or it could be an attachment thing.  At that age they can start getting into some separation anxiety and wake up wanting to be with you.  I agree that I would try not picking her up and feeding her.  See if you can rub her back or something and get her to sleep.  If she absolutely seems to need something to drink, try some water instead.  And I would also try gradually waiting a little bit longer before going in to check on her, giving her more time to try to get herself back to sleep.  Best wishes and just know that even though it sometimes feels like it, this won't last forever. Smile

Wow!!!  I understand that air ports are busy places and I can understand what it's like to be behind schedule.  I suppose I can even understand how you could get to the gate without one of your children with you.  But honestly, wouldn't you stop and make sure everyone is there before you get on the plane?  And once you were on and everyone was seated, wouldn't you notice that your 3-year-old isn't there???  Honestly!!!!  Maybe they should spend a little less time shopping and a little more time watching their kids!!!!

Decorating is really a partnership with Randy and I.  We have both worked together to choose paint, furniture, etc.  He did surprise me a couple years ago...I was gone all day to a workshop and came home to find a new ceiling fan in our dining room.  He just decided that we needed a fan there, took the kids and went to Home Depot, picked one out and installed it while I was gone.  He did a really great job though!  It looks great!

I choose the stuff for Timothy's room without Randy.  I was SO excited to do a cute baby room (since we were in an apartment with Emma, we didn't really get to do anything).  Randy said that there were other rooms that he would rather paint first.  My mom came up for the day to visit and we were talking about the room.  She said she would take me shopping for paint and a new crib set.  Then Randy would only have to do the painting.  Randy was surprised when he got home, but he was totally fine with it. Smile  We have changed things a bit since then (bunk beds and different sheet sets, different wall decorations, etc. but still the same paint).

To me, it has been really fun to work together on projects.  We do have really similar taste and it is working out well. Smile
