What the Beach Test Says About You
You tend to be a very social person. You live for your friends and family. You can get social burnout occasionally though. You aren't a total extrovert.

You fall in love with ease and confidence. Even if you've had bad experiences in the past, each new love is a reason to start completely over.

You are deeply passionate about several things in your life. You're not passionate about much... and the few passions you have are truly obsessions.

Your sense of humor is very physical. Your facial expressions or spot on imitations of people are hilarious.

That's rather interesting! Smile  And really quick to do, which is nice. Smile

"I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.  For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

I totally agree on the cheap baby bedding!  When they are constantly spitting up and having accidents all over it, you'll be glad you didn't spend mega-bucks on designer sheets. Smile

I think two of the most useless items we received were the baby wipes warmer and the baby bottle warmer (never even made it out of the package!).  They are just completely not necessary.  Your baby will be fine with room temperature wipes (that's what they get when you're traveling anyway) and it just dried out the wipes.  The baby bottle warmer...like I said, it never made it out of the package.  We would warm up the water in the microwave and then add the formula.  Shaking it to mix the formula also got rid of any "hot spots" in the water, and we were good to go.

I also agree on the huge high chair thing.  We used it for Emma (despite it being a bit of a pain and taking up too much room in our little apartment).  Then we got a portable high chair/booster thing (I think it's the brand The First Years....don't remember for sure) and that was all we used for Timothy.  It was SO much nicer and we could bring it with if we were traveling.

This is a great article!  It's a great reminder that we often put our own ideas, dreams and callings aside and put our family first.  I don't think it's bad to make sure that your children and family are well-cared for.  And there are seasons in our lives when we just need to put others before ourselves.  But I also believe that each of us was put here for a purpose, with specific gifts and abilities and ambitions.  It's easy to forget those things or put them on the back burner indefinitely.

I have known for as long as I can remember that I wanted to be an at-home mom.  This is something that is really important to me and I am very thankful for the opportunity to be able to do that.  But once the kids are all in school full-time, I will have more time to be able to pursue some of the other things that are important to me.  For many years, I have had a desire to become a writer and speaker.  I have actually written one children's book that my mom is illustrating.  But yeah, I would love to spend more time on that.  Soon......

Emma had 2 teeth by the time she was 4 months.  She always cut them in pairs, which was good and bad- bad because it hurt more but good because we were done sooner.  So, best wishes! Smile

I had that happen a couple years ago.  It finally got to the point where it hurt so much I couldn't lie on that side in bed.  I went in to the doctor and he asked me a bunch of questions.  I said it felt like kind of a burning, stinging kind of pain.  He asked if I had any kind of rash at all.  A couple days before that I had noticed 3 tiny red dots (I probably wouldn't have even noticed except they formed a triangle, which caught my attention).  I had put a bandaid on to keep stuff from rubbing on it.  It turned out to be Shingles.  If it keeps causing problems, I would just ask your dr about it.

I totally agree!  Happy Independence Day to everyone tomorrow!  I hope that everyone has a terrific and safe weekend!  I know that I am very thankful to live in such a wonderful country and am so grateful to all of those who have and are currently fighting to maintain the freedoms that we take for granted.  Take care and God bless!

I still didn't find anything in either article that makes it ok for the girl to sue her father, or for the courts to go along with that.

To me, it sounds like even though the dad had custody, the girl knew that her mom was likely to give her whatever she wants and get in a nice jab at her ex in the process.  I think the mom's actions are even more dispicable than the daughter's.  Kids that age can act like spoiled brats, and they will push things as far as they can to see what they can get away with.  And if one parent is strict with the rules and the other is not, you can bet they are going to play that for all it's worth.  That happens all the time.  But for the courts to sanction that kind of behavior of playing one parent against the other is REALLY sad and very scary!  Like others said, not allowing her to go on a trip is NOT abuse.  It seems like a pretty fitting punishment to me.  And in the second article it says that the dad doesn't custody anymore because he feels he has no authority over her anymore.  Unfortunately, I would say that's true.  The courts effectively stripped him of any authority.  The girl won the battle and knows that if she is with her dad and he doesn't give her whatever she wants, she can run right back to mom and the courts again.  I wouldn't want to be in that position either!

I do believe that all of the media attention on pregnancy and making things look so effortless and glamorous makes it seems fun and attractive to teens.  At that age, they are ALL about their favorite celebrities and want to do and be everything that they are.  When you see pictures of happy, perfectly-styled moms with their adorable, happy babies, who wouldn't think that looks like fun?  When that is all that is presented to you, that's a pretty one-sided picture.  No one show moms who look like they have been up all night for the last month with a screaming baby.  No one talks about what it's like if your baby or child is sick or injured.  Or the time commitment and real, hard work involved in being a parent.  Now don't get me wrong...I LOVE being a mom!  I have known my whole life that's what I wanted to be.  But I certainly didn't want to be doing it alone at age 15.

Thanks for posting this, Holly!  These are great reminders for people wanting to start or add to their families.  Actually, they are great tips for everyone, whether you are wanting to have a baby or not. Smile

We didn't really have the rolling over issue, but I SO understand about the screaming thing!  Timothy had MAJOR screaming issues for the first...almost 18 months.  We determined that he just hated being a baby!  Once he could walk and talk, he became a completely different boy.  But yeah, I am amazed that I have any hearing left after that first year. Smile  Hang in there and I wish you the best!  And remember, it won't last forever (even though it feels like it sometimes). Smile
