I actually had the rare privilege of grocery shopping alone today.  I had my annual physical this morning (YAY!!!! NOT!!!) so Randy had the kids with him.  Our town does have a small grocery store where we get some of our basics, but I usually do the bulk of our shopping in a town about 30 miles away.  It just ends up being easier.  Then I can take care of all of my errands in one shot.  Because of that, though, I almost always have at least one of the kids with me.  This past school year was really nice- it was just Timothy and I.  By himself, he does really well.  Emma also does really well by herself.  But together...not so much.  That is one of the things that makes summer challenging.

But, the one good thing is at that the grocery store we usually go to, the bakery will give out a free cookie to kids.  My kids are WELL aware of that.  They are also aware of the fact that cookies are only for kids who are good helpers and good listeners (received at the end of our shopping!).  And yes, there have been times when only one kid got their cookie.  I know, I'm really mean.  But it was a good learning experience. Smile

Wow!  It's so awesome to learn more about how our bodies were designed!  We were made exactly the way we are on purpose and it just amazes me! Smile

Hey everyone!  Just to preface things, I am still in the process of trying to get all of my hormones back in balance, and my skin is FREAKING OUT!!!!!  Honestly, it's been bad before, but about 2 weeks ago it was the worst I think it's ever been.  And I'm not talking about a little breakout here and there.  Literally my whole face was covered with the big, painful blemishes, and nothing I tried seemed to make any difference.  I was really ready to cry!  Then I saw a little article on the computer about weird uses for food.  One said for problem skin, mix 4 tablespoons of salt and 3 tablespoons of olive oil to form a kind of paste/scrub.  It said to spread this on your face and leave it on for 2 minutes, then rinse off with warm water and wash as usual.  Now, I know that the idea of slathering oil onto already super-oily, acne covered skin seems somewhat counterintuitive, but I was desparate.  So, since I had the ingredients on hand, I decided to give it a try.  It said to do this for 7 days in a row, and then you could move to using it 3 times a week.  I SO wish I had taken before and after photos!  (Although at the time, taking a picture was the LAST thing I wanted to do!!!)  All of the blemishes have dried up and are almost completely gone.  And I actually stopped using it after the 7 days (although I still have almost half left for next time).  I am SO impressed!  And the best part is that there are no artificial chemicals that can harm your skin.  I just had to pass thing along in case any of you are dealing with nasty breakouts.  Give it a try!  It definitely can't hurt anything. Smile

I would definitely give it a try!  It's a lot less expensive and a lot easier on your skin.  If it doesn't work, then you can look at other things.  But like I said, it is AMAZING what it did for my face.  It really couldn't have gotten any worse. Smile  So yeah, I was really excited!  I hope it works as well for your daughter! Smile  Take care and God bless! Smile

My parents have an indoor hot tub, and when we are going to be visiting they set the temp at 98 so we can bring the kids in.  We have been taking them in there to "swim" since they were a couple months old, and they both LOVE the water!  They are both signed up for swimming lessons at the beach next month, and they have been asking every day since February if we can go to the beach yet. Smile

With Emma, we really never had any problems with the crib, or the transition to the bed.  She was almost 2 when we moved from the apartment to our house, and we set up the bed and the crib in her room.  About 2 weeks later I went to put her to bed in the crib, and she said "No!  Bed!!!!"  So, I put her in the bed, and that was it.  She stayed there just beautifully and we haven't had any issues.

With Timothy, I think he was a little past his 2nd birthday.  We had gotten a set of metal bunkbeds for free from my aunt, and we had them set up in his room with the crib.  As far as I can recall, we really didn't have any issues with him escaping from the crib (I can't believe that he didn't!!!).  But Randy decided it was time to try the bed.  I was NOT ready for that transition- mainly because the bunkbeds have a built-in ladder and they are not detachable.  We had been having issues with the kids climbing up to the top bunk to play all the time, and I was just sure that he was going to climb up there during the night and fall out and injure himself severely.  However, we got him set up with his new Thomas the train pillow case and his blankies, and he went right to sleep in the bottom bunk....and stayed there!

He does occasionally get out of bed to tell us about a "problem" that is preventing him from going to sleep, but we put him right back in and say "It's bedtime.  Lay down and go to sleep."  (For example, I will tuck him in and 2 minutes later he comes out saying he can't sleep.  I say "That's because you're out here!  Go back to bed!")  But yeah, I think we were really blessed in this department, and I am extremely thankful! Smile

I read about this, and it truly makes me sick!  There is absolutely no excuse for just standing around staring.  Now, I know that they say that you should not move someone who has been injured like that, but even that is NOT an excuse to do nothing!  Get some people out there diverting traffic and CALL 911!!!!!  Then go over and check the guy out and see if there is anything you can do for him.  It said in the article that the police car that arrived on the scene was actually there on a separate call for a separate issue (and I think this was about 10 minutes later) so it would appear that no one even bothered to call 911.  There is just no excuse for this.

It's interesting...after Randy and I had been emailing each other for a while, he mentioned that he started dating a girl who lived close to him (at the time, we lived about 3 hours apart).  I immediately felt jealous, even though I had been out with a guy who lived near me a few times.  A few weeks later, he was asking me for advice on his relationship (he said she was having issues with them living about an hour apart.  I said that anything worth having is worth working for!).  Despite the fact that I was also dating someone, it just hurt to think of him with someone else.  And when he told me shortly after that they had broken up. I was sad for him but part of me was happy too.  Around that time the guy I had been seeing and I broke up also (even though he was a nice guy, it was never really serious- more someone to hang out with and go to a movie once in a while).

A couple days before Randy and I were supposed to meet, I was set up on a date with another guy (also a very nice guy).  We went to supper and a movie, but the whole time all I could think about was how excited I was to be meeting Randy that weekend.  By this time, Randy and I had spent HOURS talking about everything under the sun.  I did not want to start another relationship that wasn't going anywhere.  I had promised myself that my next real relationship would be with the man I was going to marry.  I just didn't want to waste time and emotions on dating for the sake of dating someone.

When Randy and I met that day, right away he gave me a hug and my first thought was "I could stay right here forever!"  I told myself to settle down and not get carried away.  Later, we were driving around in his pickup and I kept thinking "I REALLY want to hold his hand, but I'm not making the first move!"  Then our hands brushed together when we hit a bump, and he asked if it was ok to hold my hand (very much a gentleman!). Smile  I kept thinking "This is the one!  This is it!"  Then I would tell myself to just slow down and not get carried away.  But later, as we were talking, the way he looked at me brought tears to my eyes.  It was like he was looking into my soul, like he knew everything about me and loved me anyway- he looked at me like I was the most precious treasure in the world.  It still makes me cry just typing it. Smile  When I got home that night, I sent him an emailing saying "I know this is really fast, and I don't want to scare you away, but I just have to tell you something- despite logic I feel such an incredible connection with you.  I don't want to ruch into things, but I have never felt more comfortable, more at home, more treasured than with you.  I don't want to waste time and emotions on a relationship that isn't going to go anywhere, so my question is this- if I fall, will you be there to catch me? (I know!!! INCREDIBLY cheesy!!!) I said he didn't have to answer right away, but just think about it.  He called me about 10 minutes later and said "YES!  Definitely yes!"  And it's all history from there. Smile

This hits very close to home right now. Smile  We have 2 kids (one almost 6 and one almost 4) and have been trying for about 15 months for another.  We had no issues with getting pregnant the first 2 times, so this really threw me off!  Last Friday I had my yearly appointment with my ob and he said that I definitely have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)- it's tiny little cysts on your ovaries that mess up your hormone levels and can cause all kinds of unpleasant health and body issues.  He said he can pretty much guarantee that I am not ovulating (which makes it pretty tough to get pregnant! lol) and prescribed a medication called Metformin.  It's actually a diabetic medication (PCOS puts you at high risk for diabetes and this helps reduce that risk) plus it helps get your hormones back in order.  He also said that if you are overweight (Yup!) that even losing 5-10% of your body weight can sometimes be enough to reset your body and get things back on track.  He said that the reason this is just an issue now is that sometimes the symptoms of PCOS are mild enough to not really cause problems when you're in your early to mid 20s, but as you get a little older (I'm 31) it gets progressively worse.  At any rate, I would check with your dr.  A simple blood test can check your hormone levels and whether or not you're ovulating.  If you have ruled out physical problems, then it does help to try to relax.  Anyway, best wishes and God bless! Smile

We haven't done anything quite that long.  Last summer we did about a 9 hour drive (the kids were 5 and almost 3, so a little different).  One of the things I did was pick up some new coloring books, the Crayola color wonder books and markers and some little toys and surprises (around $1 each) that they had never seen before.  I packed a backpack for each of them with their own stuff to play with and little snacks.  That way there was no fighting about what belonged to who.  We also did the dvd player.  I went to our local library and borrowed a couple of dvd movies the kids had never seen before.  I also recommend letting the older one get out and run around on your breaks.

Also, earlier that summer, our library had a special guest come for story time.  He is a children's author and comedian who does stories with full sound effects (really kind of cool and funny!).  I picked up his cd "Noisy Tales" and didn't bring it out until the trip.  The website is http://www.noiseguy.com/ ....  I just looked and he also has a new cd of stories available.  It was pretty fun and a nice little break from the dvd player- plus it gets kids using their imaginations! Smile

Anyway, take care and best wishes! Smile

lol  When we were first married, we lived in a little apartment right on the main highway coming into town.  There was a clothes line right out front for any of us to use.  I think we were the only couple living there under 60, and living in a small town (about 1200 people) it does take much to get gossip going.  It was SO tempting to put out a whole line full of...honeymoon apparel...Smile and see what people had to say.  But, I didn't. Smile

We actually don't have a clothes line here at the house.  And with all of the rain we have had in the past 2 weeks, it wouldnt' be very effective. Smile  I do have some drying racks in the laundry room that I use for things that I don't want to put in the dryer, but that's about it.

When Emma was 3, my sister gave her a guitar for Christmas.  She will frequently give "concerts" where she plays and sings her own songs that she makes up.  It's pretty fun!  And they both love singing along in the car and whenever the radio is on.  They LOVE their Veggie Tales and Backyardigans cds.  It is really fun to watch and listen.

And Emma LOVES to dance!  Timothy will frequently get in there too and it is really cool. Smile
