But the unfortunate reality is that it happens everywhere, even in our small towns. That's why I feel so strongly to pray daily for my family's safety. I know that we don't need to live in fear, and I am so thankful for that.

I LOVE that you can have shopping lists sent by text message to your phone, or even have it read to you by calling their free 888 number. This will really come in handy! Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 6 months ago Wow. That is just not ok. I am SO thankful that Emma had such a terrific teacher. And I do firmly believe that it is ESSENTIAL to be as involved as possible with your child's education. You really need to start an open line of communication with their teacher right at the beginning of the year, and keep in close contact. I was also involved with going in to volunteer in Emma's class once a month. I know that's not always possible for everyone, but it really does give you a look at what things are like in their class. Now, I can understand getting frustrated with children's behavior (I think that happens to all of us at home sometimes), but the way she handled things was totally inappropriate. If there was a problem with him, take him out in the hall or pull him aside to talk to him. You DO NOT make him an example in front of the whole class, telling the other kids that they shouldn't be friends with him. There just really is no excuse for that. That was pretty fun, but definitely hot in our all-black uniforms (it looked really sharp but it was HOT!!!!!!). In June, I actually have an opportunity to march again. My high school band director is retiring this year, and they are inviting all past alumni to come and march with him one last time. That should be interesting. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 6 months ago I have tried that, actually. But he as soon as I even touch his hand to try to look at it, he starts screaming like I'm trying to kill him. The last time he got one (couple months ago), Randy ended up having to hold him down while I removed it.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 6 months ago Thank you guys for all of the great tips and support! One of the slivers is really tiny and I'm not really worried at all about it. They other is quite a bit bigger, and there is a big scratch right below it that was bleeding, so that one I have more concern about the possibility of infection. Right now I am just leaving the one alone, and on the other I am trying to tip from the first link from Rhonda- making a paste out of water and baking soda and bandaging it. It said to check after 24 hours and that it usually starts to get to where you can get ahold of it. I also liked the suggestion on the second link of using Baby Orajel to numb it. I kept trying to think of what I could use, and I know we still have some of that on hand. (I might also use that for plucking my eyebrows...). I know that our kids had issues with sleeping in when there was too much light in the room, and that's a pretty easy thing to fix. Another idea would be to have some books and quiet toys that you keep next to her bed. You can tell her that if she wakes up, she can look at some books and things QUIETLY, but that she needs to stay in her bed until you come in to get her. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 6 months ago I think the alarm is a great idea! Kids that age just have no concept of time, and that gives them a way to know when it is ok to get out of bed.
