Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago We started the sippies with juice at about 6 months, and kicked the bottle when we switched to milk at a year. Emma at first refused to drink milk from a sippy, but got over that when her cousin (couple months older) came to visit and Emma chased her down and stole her sippy. We now use regular cups at mealtime, and sports bottles or the sealed straw cups for in between or on the road. They each have a sports bottle of water on the table next to their bed at night. They rarely drink from it, but I think it makes them feel better to have it. Also, neither of them were big fans of drinking plain milk at first. My sister-in-law had the same problem with my niece, and suggested trying the kids drinkable yogurt. We would just mix a small amount of that into the milk, and they loved it! I figure it's better than chocolate syrup. I know it also contains some sugar, but it has extra protein too. And sometimes ya just have to do what you have to do. I don't know if that would be something you would want to try, Bestmommy95, but it's one option. I know it worked really well for my niece, and for our two. Anyway, I believe that each child is different and sometimes you just have to do things differently and find what works. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago EXACTLY!!!! That is pretty much where I am at this week. I am going to be gone Friday and Saturday, I have barely seen my husband (other than a couple minutes in the morning) for the past couple weeks (he farms, and it's harvest time), and I am so far behind on laundry that it doesn't feel like I will ever be caught up. In all fairness, last week I had an injured puppy and a little boy with a bad cold, ear infection and pink-eye to take care of. I felt like a horrible mom though...I think it was maybe last Thursday I went to tuck Emma in bed, and she said that we had to take the sheets and blankets off her bed. I asked why, and she said that before she got up that morning, she had coughed so hard she spit up on her blankets. Mind you, we were already running a little late on bedtime, and she had to be up for school in the morning. We have had (MANY times) the discussion about telling me right away in the morning, or afternoon at the latest if there is a problem with the bed. There was nothing clean to put on her bed, and no time to wash stuff before she went to sleep. So, she actually slept in her sleeping bag on her bed until last night. She didn't mind of course- she thinks it's really cool to sleep in her sleeping bag, and will ask to do that periodically just for fun, but I felt terrible! And we also have the memorial to fallen socks (the basket of partnerless socks) in the laudry. Yes, Mount Washmore is getting a little out of hand, but no one has had to go naked yet, so I figure we're still ok. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago On the day I was born, #1 song was- I Wish by Stevie Wonder. When I turned 18- On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men...I don't know about the song necessarily, but the title certainly seems applicable. I do seem to spend a lot of time on my knees- praying, scrubbing, playing with the kids.... When Randy was born, it was- Night Fever by the BeeGees For Emma, it was- Hot in Here by Nelly...hmmm.....I guess that is how she came to be...but doesn't seem very appropriate for a 5-year-old... For Timothy- Goodies by Ciara That was pretty interesting. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago Well, although it may not look like it, it's actually not as bad as I thought...the top is pretty much packed with pictures of family and friends, coupons, magnets of various types, kids' art work (such as Emma's post-it note family portrait- one of Daddy, one of Mommy with curly hair, one of Emma with long, beautiful hair, and one of Timothy screaming), plus a magnetic bulletin/dry erase board full of phone unlabeled phone numbers (very helpful) and Emma's school lunch calendar. The side contains much of the same. The bottom, however, is less cluttered. It mostly consists of the kids' play magnets, Timothy's potty sticker chart and Timothy's family picture. Just please don't ask what's on the counters, the floor, stuffed in the closets, etc... Hmm....couldn't get my picture to post "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago Father, I lift up Gary and his family to you. I pray that you would work a miracle of love in his family, and that past hurts would be healed. I pray your peace, strength and joy to the whole family. Praise you that Lettie knows you, and it prepared to see Your face. If it is your will, I pray Your hand of healing. If not, I pray that You would be able to use this for Your glory, bringing Gary's family together as never before. We thank you for this opportunity to trust you. Thank you that you are faithful and that You keep Your promises. We know that truly You do work all things for good to those who love You and are called according to Your purposes. I pray that You would pour out Your Holy Spirit in that hospital, that no one would be able to walk by that room without feeling Your mighty presence. Praise You, Lord God Almighty! In Jesus' precious name, amen.

Your last was a girl...I swear I gained so much weight with my daughter! My son's pregnancy gave me 30 lbs which fell off in the hospital when I had him. I'm STILL working to get the wieght off from my daughter and she's going to be 4 on Halloween! I think it's the girls! Did anyone else have this happen? I TOTALLY agree!!! With Timothy, I ended up gaining a total of 15 pounds, and it came right off, basically at birth. But with Emma, I gained a ton of weight and it's still there (and she's 5!!!!). So yeah, I think there is something with that!

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago That is SO funny!!!! And, unfortunately, so true!!! One of my big tests of this nature happened during the first trimester of my second pregnancy. The first time around, I had a little morning sickness, and could not tolerate the smell of roast beef from the deli in our grocery store. But mostly, not too shabby. Not the case with Timothy. I ended up losing quite a bit of weight, and spent most of the first 3-4 months living on popcorn and ginger ale. Anyway, we were staying at my in-laws' house to watch the house and take care of the dog while they were on vacation for a week. I was feeling.....well, you know....my husband was working all day, and Emma (about 18 months) was playing happily. I dragged myself off the couch and decided to try to check my email. All of the sudden, I heard Emma crying and looked up to find her standing in a lake of.....well, a MASSIVE diaper blow-out. I still have nightmares where I can see and smell that. So, I drag myself off the chair and go to my very distraught baby girl. That's when I notice the trail....with several pools along the way. How that much can come out of something that small, I will never understand. (Oh, mind you, all but one puddle found itself on the light colored carpet, of course!) So, the dilemma...there is only one of me, and several puddles, and a child to clean up. I decided that I had to clean up the source before I could clean up the mess, so I gave her a quick bath. By the time I got back downstairs, it had plenty of time to fully absorb into the carpet, and I spent the rest of the week trying to clean and disinfect the carpet, in between trips to the bathroom and taking care of a sick baby girl. Nobody tells you about that kind of stuff. I just thank the Lord that He gives moms that Herculean strength and iron stomach that allows us to do the impossible. And at the end of the day, we look at those beautiful babies, and we know we would do it all over again.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 1 years ago I completely empathize with the clothes thing. I truly do not understand that! Randy farms, which means he comes in looking not so fresh and clean....and proceeds to take off clothing wherever he happens to be. My children have picked up this lovely habit, leaving our home looking like it was hit with a clothing hurricane. But, I can be thankful that we have a home, and clothing to leave around, and furniture to put it on. I would also be REALLY thankful for Alice from the Brady Bunch!
