Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago My brother is 2 years older than me, and my sister is 5 years younger than me. My brother and I were generally pretty close, as far as siblings go. I'm not saying we didn't have our moments (but tears were his undoing, and I could turn them on and off like a faucet!!!). My sister and I.....I LOVED the idea that we were going to have a little baby at our house! It would be just like having a real, live dolll to play with and take care of. And it was lovely....until they moved the crib into my room. I have always been a BIG sleep kind of girl, and the constant crying made me crazy. But, that phase ended and she moved on to trying to be me, using my things without asking and breaking them. I REALLY wanted to be able to have someone who could be my confidante, to share secrets with and that sort of thing. But that didnt' really work out either. She was too young to understand the importance of KEEPING a secret. But I did love her, and over the years we have become a whole lot closer. She was also my maid of honor (I will be her matron of honor in December) and she is Emma's Godmother. Even though we are different stages in our lives yet, I wouldn't trade our friendship for anything.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago We did M&Ms and stickers. We had also tried something different with Emma. I took her to the store to pick out a package of cute beads, and cut a piece of string big enough to make a necklace. Then every time she went pee she got to put one bead on and 2 for poop. Whatever you decide to do, congratulations! I would definitely jump in if she is seeming ready and receptive to it! Best wishes! Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago Congratulations!!! That is awesome! Just keep hanging in there. Emma never had any interest in a paci at all. She just wanted her 2 little blankies, and she was totally happy. Timothy did use a paci. I can't completely remember exactly how old he was when we took it away. I want to say around 18 months. I know by a year it was only for nap and bedtime. But then he started looking and asking for it during the day, and we decided it was time to be done. I was SO not excited about the idea of taking it away, expecting a VERY long and VERY dramatic scene. But the first night when he asked for it we said it was all gone and here are your blankies. And it was fine. I couldn't believe it!!! Anyway, best wishes and stay strong! You're doing great! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago I completely agree! Just ignore any guilt trips and know that it's probably just his way of expressing that he is also a little nervous. But you deserve to go out and have fun, and you can do it. And dh can do it too. Like Holly said, he may have his own ways of doing things, but that's ok. I know Randy doesn't always do things exactly the way that I do, but it's ok. The kids LOVE spending time with him and he with them. It's good for everyone. Just relax, enjoy what you're doing and know that your dh loves your kids and they will get along just fine. And when you get home, try not to stress about things that were done differently. If everyone is safe and healthy and the house is in one piece, then everything is fine. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago I agree. It sounds like you are doing everything right. If you trust the daycare and staff, and you have talked with everyone and observed, etc. and your dd was calm and fine when you left, it sounds like things should be fine. I do know that that age can be a time for things like that, being "scared" and upset and little things and such. And they really are INCREDIBLY smart! She could have been trying to test the boundaries too, playing on your sympathy and trying to see if you would take her with you to have some mommy time. I think you are doing a terrific job! Keep the communication open with the daycare and with your dd. You are doing a great job of listening to her and addressing her fears and working with the stage she's at. So yeah, you are doing perfectly!

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago Thank you for sharing this! We had both of our kids vaccinated, but since then we have learned more and more about what all is in the vaccines, and it really is scary. I also really wish that they would take the junk out of the vaccines and just leave the stuff that is actually good for you. I do think it's important to protect our kids against these diseases, but I also don't think that we should have to subject our kids to toxic substances in order to accomplish that. In this world where we have so much information about substances and their effects on our bodies, and we have so much technology at our disposal, it is ridiculous that we should be in a position of trying to choose the lesser of two evils. It is just not necessary. And it sounds like that is the idea that she is promoting- that we should be able to have safe vaccines available. Whether or not there is any established link between vaccines and any health conditions, we know that some of these substances are highly toxic, so why are they allowed in something that we are injecting into our infants and children? Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago It's been a while here too since I've been on a plane. It doesn't really matter a whole lot to me. The window is nice with the view, but it's definitely not a deal breaker for me. And we have not yet flown anywhere with the kids, but if we did I would say the aisle would definitely be the most convenient. So yeah, doesn't really matter too much for me.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago I would also be a little bit upset about not keeping better track of something worth that much money. But that aside, I would DEFINITELY NOT be ignoring him and acting like that. And it would be something to laugh about later on. As for me, Randy had this terrific and extremely sweet proposal all planned out, and it ended up not working out at all the way he had planned. But I really coudln't have cared less how it happened. I knew how much he loves he, and how much I love him, and that's really all that mattered. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 8 months ago Actually, for Easter break Emma has this Friday and next Monday off. We are leaving Thursday night to go to my parents' house. Then Friday morning Randy and I are taking off for Minneapolis to use our Christmas present from my parents (a gift certificate for a night at the Radisson hotel in downtown Minneapolis and a gift certificate for a really nice restaurant near there) while Mom and Dad watch the kids. Then we will meet up with them again on Saturday and stay at their place until Sunday or Monday, depending on how the kids are doing. So, it should be really fun.
