Another one that I like:

Two men were out hunting together.  Suddenly, one of the men starts twitching, his eyes roll back into his head, and he falls to the ground, not moving.  His friend, completely terrified, picks up his cell phone and calls 9-1-1.  The dispatcher asks the man what the problem is, and he replies "We need an ambulance right away!  I think my friend is dead!  He fell to the ground and he's not moving!  I think he's DEAD!!!!"  The dispatcher tells the man to calm down and says, "The first thing you need to do is make sure that your friend really is dead."  The guy says, "Ok, hang on a minute."  The dispatcher hears some rustling and then a gunshot.  The man comes back on the phone and says, "Ok, now what?"

"I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.  For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

It's definitely true that you really do forget the pain.  This allows you to have more than one child. Smile

With Emma, I went to the hospital around 5:30 pm.  Things were progressing, but VERY slowly (at 3 cm, but baby descended and slowly progressing).  They came in at 12:45 to give me a shot to "help me get some sleep".  15 minutes later my water broke, and she was born at 3:06 am.  So it was VERY fast, but VERY intense.  There wasn't any time to think about an epidural or anything.  If I could do it over again, I would have skipped the shot though.  It didn't do anything for the pain.  All it did was make me tired and groggy (I actually kept falling asleep between contractions).  It was a rough 2 hours, but it was only 2 hours.  And it all ended with a beautiful, healthy 6 lb 9 oz girl.

With Timothy, I was on bedrest for 6 1/2 week with early contractions (turned out to be caused by a kidney stone).  Then, at 35 1/2 weeks, I woke up the Sunday before Labor Day with some pretty strong contractions.  I went in and was at 4 cm.  The contractions kept up fairly regularly, but not terribly painfully, most of the day.  Then they stopped that evening (nice because I got a good night's sleep).  The next morning the dr came in to check me and said if I was at 5 he would break my water.  He said it was close enough and broke it.  Nothing.  Got up and walked around...still nothing.  So after all the trouble trying to keep him in all those weeks, they had to induce me.  My plan was to avoid an epidural, but with being induced, it got pretty bad after a while.  So I had the epidural.  I still felt everything, but it was down to a bearable level.  Things were going pretty well but had slowed down some, so the dr left to do a quick surgery, saying it would only take about 1/2 hour.  After about 15 minutes, the nurse looked at my chart and said it was way past time to empty the bladder.  Immediately after, the pain was worse than before the epidural.  The nurse checked and said "Well, I think we found what was holding up the progress."  She asked if I could hang in until dr got back.  They called down to OR and he said 10 minutes.  He did make it back in time to deliver my beautiful, perfectly healthy (Praise the LORD) baby boy- 5lb 14 oz.  Nice thing about a smaller baby- 3 pushes and he was out.  YEAH!!!  Born, appropriately enough, on Labor Day. Smile

This might sound silly to some...

In February I started an 8-week healthy habit thing.  Each week you add another healthy eating habit.  If you follow it carefully, it REALLY works well.  Over the summer I didn't do quite as well, but I am trying to get back into the routine again.  Looking at the whole list of 8, it looks a little overwhelming and not very fun, but each week builds on the previous weeks, and once you are doing one thing, it's not as hard to add the next.  So, here it is:

Week 1:  At least 10 (8 oz) glasses of water/ day, and NO pop

Week 2:  Eat 5-6 small meals/day.  Wait at least 2 hours between meals, but not more than 3.  (Not so tough when scheduled with kids' snack time)

Week 3:  Make each meal at least 10 grams of protein (to keep you full) and no more than 30 grams of carbs

Week 4:  Eat your last meal at least 2 hous before bed.

Week 5:  Watch saturated fat and NO trans fat (anything hydrogenated is trans fat)

Week 6:  No processed flour (so go for 100% whole grains- wheat, corn, oat, etc)

Week 7:  Add 1 cup of veggies to at least 2 meals/day

Week 8:  Use fruit as your carb for 2 meals/day

It really does give you good results, and it makes you feel good.  Hang in and good luck!

My hubby and I both have cell phones, but I don't think we will ever get rid of the land line, for the same reasons as posted above.  I think it's essential to have a phone available and reliable for emergencies, and also when we have a babysitter.  We don't use long distance on the land line- we use the cells for that.  But we also have our DSL through the local phone company.  So yeah, I don't plan on getting rid of that any time soon.

Now I do my shopping on Mondays while Emma is at school.  It would be REALLY nice to shop after Randy is home, but during planting and harvesting (and various other times of year) he is out in the fields until really late.  And I have to drive minimum of 1/2 hour to find a store open later than 7:30.  Gotta love small towns! Smile  Except for small emergencies, I usually do drive to the bigger store.  They give out free cookies to kids, and that is usually a good motivator to be a good listener (we get the cookie at the end if they behave).  There have been times I've had both kids and only 1 got the cookie.  That was a good learning experience.  Another good learning experience was when Emma took a pack of Rolos and openend it while I was unloading the cart.  I ate them all on the way home from the store.  I know, I'm a really mean mom, but I'm ok with that. Smile

I really love writing, and enjoy speaking in front of groups.  I have often thought about the possibility of becoming a professional writer and speaker, but have never actually done anything with it.  Although, I did write a children's book when I was pregnant with Emma.  My mom (incredibly gifted artist) is still working on the illustrations.  I need to check in with her about that again.  I would love to have it published.  I guess it's just fear and insecurity that have kept me from doing anything with this dream that God has given me.

That was really funny!!!  Really sad, because we really are so dependent that people would have no idea what to do with themselves if something ever happened.  But still, very funny!

When Emma was around 18 months or so, she found my pair of beaded flip-flops, and thought they were absolutely beautiful.  So, she started wearing them around the house....but not on her feet...she wore them on her wrists as bracelets.  I decided we really needed to get her some play jewelry!  Smile

Timothy is our little "crash and burn" guy.  He doesn't go down for naps well (much like his father as a child).  Instead, he just drops wherever he is, whatever he's doing.  I am actually putting together an album of pictures of just that.  About a month or so ago, we were eating supper at around 6:30.  I saw Timothy put a chicken nugget in his mouth, and then got up to refill my water.  When I sat back down, I saw him curled up on his chair, sound asleep.  I decided I might as well just put him to bed, so I brought him to his room.  When I layed him down, he stirred a little, and then I saw him start chewing in his sleep....he still had the chicken nugget in his mouth, partially chewed!  YUCKY!!!!!  Smile

Well, it looks like I too would be going to Washington if I was Mr. Lisa, otherwise going public.

Randy goes to meetings (how terribly exciting!), Emma goes to Chinco for Spring Break Petition (hmmmm....a little young for Spring Break, I'm thinking....), and Timothy goes to school (also a little young, but hey, he would love that!).

That was really interesting! Smile
