Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago I totally agree! Emma loves playing dress up and being a princess and all of that, but she also loves cars, trucks, trains, tractors, tools, etc. And Timothy is actually a lot more into babies than Emma ever was. She has some baby dolls that she very rarely plays with. When Timothy was about a year, I got him a little baby doll and he carried it everywhere with him. Like Holly said, we do want dd to grow into a young woman and ds into a young man. But I have no problem whatsoever with ds learning about childcare and household duties, etc. And I have no problem with Emma learning about using tools, being in the tractor/combine, etc. Emma also really loves sports, which I think is really cool. She has actually asked to sign up for wrestling, but I haven't seen any info come home from school about it. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago I would agree with the above posts. Try some of the milk by itself. I'm actually having a hard time remembering how it went with Timothy, so it must have gone ok. With Emma, she did great with drinking milk from a bottle. It was trying to get her to drink it from a cup that became an issue. She would drink juice or water from a cup, and milk from a bottle, but would NOT drink milk from a cup. Dh tried to fool her into drinking it by saying it was juice. She took one sip and threw the cup. From then on she wouldn't drink from any cup she couldn't see through. About a week later, dh's sister and her dh and their little girl (4 months older than Emma) came up to visit. My niece had the same kind of sippy as Emma. Emma watched her running around with it and drinking it for awhile, and then tried to chase her down to get her cup. We ended up trading cups so that Emma had Tianna's cup, and that was completely fine to drink from that. Then things were fine from that point on, but yeah, Emma definitely got a double dose of stubborn!!! Anyway, take care and I wish you the best! Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago Wow, that is a really crazy, complicated and ultimately sad story. It sounds like the problem is that the cab driver falsified a story to the police, which I guess I can understand as being a problem. But I am not sure that I agree that it is something that should result in jail time. I'm not sure that I can say the same for the baby's father. That whole situation is really sad and disturbing. And I also pray that this doesn't jeopardize the safe drop-off programs. It would have been better if anyone in the situation had simply dropped off the baby with no questions asked and not making up a story about it. But I am glad that the baby is in a safe place. Yeah, I just really don't know what to think or say about this. I will definitely be praying about everyone involved in this mess. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago Yup, that's why we don't have any here. And that's why I very rarely bake. I LOVE baking!!! But the problem is that I REALLY love the stuff that I'm baking. And dh will have maybe one or two of something, and I don't want the kids to eat it all....so I do. sigh Yeah, that can be a problem. But, it's totally not just you, if that makes you feel any better!

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago Awesome! Thank you for sharing that, Hollly! I had actually heard part of that story (just not in as much detail) on a Veggie Tales movie the kids have. I think that's awesome to know that real story and the real reason to celebrate that day. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago It really never ceases to amaze me the kind of example that some parents set for their children. Then they are completely shocked when their children act like that, wondering where in the world that would be coming from. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way saying that we do a perfect job and that we always act perfectly or anything like that. But honestly.......i'ts a video game...... It's just like what happens in stores around Christmas with parents fighting over the latest "must have" toy for their kids, or the way parents act at their kids' sporting events. It really is sad. Get over it!!!!!!!!!!!! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago I also posted this in one of the group forums, but I just happened to think about this and thought I would share this little story. It actually is a true story. Back in the days before price scanners, when they only had price tags, my parents were at the little local grocery store picking up a couple of items. Ahead of them in the checkout line was a woman who was purchasing (among other things) a box of tampons. The woman self-consciously put her items on the counter and the cashier began checking her items through. When the cashier got to the box of tampons, she held it up, looked at it for a minute and said, "There's no price tag on this box." The embarassed woman quickly said, "That's fine, just never mind." But the cashier insisted and got on the intercom and said (very loudly) "I need a price check on a box of Tampax!" In the meantime, the poor woman had turned bright red and looked as though she hoped the floor would open up and swallow her. The stock boy, having misheard the cashier (thinking she said a box of thumb tacks) got on the intercom and asked "Is that the kind you push in with your thumb or beat in with a hammer?" The woman, comletely and utterly mortified, turned and ran from the store and my parents could barely pick themselves up off the floor from laughing so hard. True story. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago I do agree that it's extremely frustrating to have other people undermine your authority with your kids. This event might seem like a small thing, but it can lead to bigger things. Kids are very smart and very perceptive, and they learn really quickly that even if mom or dad says no, another adult might say yes. Then you get into the situation of your kids trying to go over one parent's head by going on to ask the other one, hoping for a better answer. We absolutely don't tolerate that here, but it is a hard battle. If that happens again, I would actually turn to your child and say something like "Different people have different rules about things. But this is our rule because...."

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago First of all honey, just breathe. Know that you are not alone, and that you have friends and support here. It took a lot of courage for you to reach out here for help. Second, you were not spying on him or invading his privacy. You stumbled upon this by accident, so I agree that you need not feel guilty about that. I do agree that you should find a time (maybe when kids are in bed) and you do need to talk to him. I do think that it's very important to get things out in the open, but I also think it's wise not to jump to conclusions. Like Holly said, it not be anything physical. I'm definitely not saying that it's right or ok either way and definitely needs to be addressed either way. Whatever the case may be, know that you and your family will be in my prayers, and I am here to talk, listen whatever any time. "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Lisa JoyJoined: 8/28/07 Posts: 1044 | Posted: 9 months ago I don't think so. I REALLY, REALLY miss when the kids used to take naps. I think a lot of times Timothy would if I let him sleep next to me. But if he takes even a half hour nap, he is up really late at night. But I could TOTALLY go for a nap right now!!! But I don't want him to be up forever tonight either.....sigh..... No, I would totally enjoy that while it lasts!!!!! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.
