Hello everyone!  I just came across this article about being the "perfect wife" and just thought I would share.  I thought this might get some interesting comments going on.  So, let us know what you think.....is it possible to be a "perfect wife"....or "perfect husband" for that matter.  Is this something we should be trying for, or is it just old-fashioned nonsense?

I agree with many of you.  I think that it is important to teach our children responsibility, and I think that is a big part of our job.  I also believe that marriage should be a partnership.  And I think that behind all of the potentially disagreeable stuff in this article is the idea that our attitude has a lot to do with things.  I believe that being a good wife and mother has less to do with what specific jobs we do, and a lot mroe to do with our attitude toward our husbands and children.  And even there, I know that I am far from perfect.  I know that despite my best efforts, I will never be perfect, but I can still try to keep my perspective and keep negativity in check.  Because at the end of the day, I want to know that I did the best that I could, and that my husband and children are thankful for my being here.

Great article!  I do agree that a lot of times men are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to marriage and parenting.  I do agree that there are definitely dead-beat dads out there who really don't deserve to have a say in how their children are raised.  But I also believe that there are getting to be more and more women who want to be in control of everything, from parenting to the marriage.  I definitely think that marriage and parenting need to be an equal partnership, and that does not always mean doing equal shares of every job.  Randy farms and handles the bulk of our financial decisions.  I am really glad about that because he is really good at that.  That doesn't mean that I don't have any input....it means that he handles the majority of the day-to-day issues.  I have the privilege of staying at home with the kids.  Part of that involves doing the bulk of the cooking and cleaning (although Randy is good at pitching in too).  He is also good about being helpful and supportive and stepping in to help when I am doing things with my home business.  No, it's not a perfect system.  We definitely have our issues, but we both love and respect one another, and that's what makes things work.  Communication really is the key to making things work. Smile

My sister-in-law had severe hyperemesis also with her first 2 pregnancies.  She was in and out of the hospital quite a bit.  But, she is now pregnant with number 3 and having an easier time.  She was still pretty sick for a while, but nowhere near as bad as it had been.  I believe she is about 4 months along now.  I know the second time she was really sick through most of the pregnancy, but this time she is doing really well now, and is back to home-schooling the two older kids.  So really, every pregnancy is different.  And you and your doctor know what things to watch for so you can be on top of things from the very beginning.  And I agree that if you can try to time things to have the most support available.  I wish you the very best, whatever you decide. Smile

I know there have been embarassing things in public.....but I am drawing a bit of a blank at the moment.  But they do say plenty of things at home that I am glad no one else heard.

For example, a year ago I got a jewelry armoire for my birthday from my parents, and it has drawers down the front.  Timothy was having a bit of trouble pronouncing the word drawer.  It actually came out as "whore".  Yeah.  Every morning, he would come into our room and go straight over to that thing, touch it lovingly and say "nice whore".

Also, when Emma was about......maybe 18 months to 2 years or somewhere around there.....when I was getting her out of the bath, she pointed to her chest and said "What are these?"  My dear, dear hubby, in an attempt to be funny, said "They're penguins."  Emma is now 5 1/2, and still to this day, anything to do with bras or breasts are penguins....despite my very best efforts to convince her otherwise.  A few weeks ago, I was getting dressed for church, and Emma came into our bedroom.  I have a set of pads to make one of my bras fit better, and for some reason they were sitting on top of the dresser.  Emma picked them up and said "Oooohhhh penguins!!!!"  Then she put them over her ears and went running around the house saying "Now they're ear muffs!!!!"

His commitment and devotion to our family.

His faith and love of the Lord.

He gave me two terrific little valentines.

He is a smart ass pain in the butt, and he makes me laugh. Smile

The strength and safety of his arms around me.  The very first time he hugged me, I was sold!

Interesting question.....

I have pretty much always slept on my side, alternating during the night between left and right side.  And I have used a body pillow for extra support since I was pregnant with Emma.

I would LOVE to wear cute jammies to bed, but I always get really hot.  So, I generally end up in just a tank or sports bra and undies.

Also, I always prefer to have a heavy blanket on, pulled up to my ears but not covering my face.  It's really more of a comfort/security thing than warmth, since I am usually pretty warm anyway.  It just started when I was really little, and it's a tough habit to break, even during the hot summer.  But hey, that's what they make fans for. Smile

I do think it's worse for girl stuff than with boys.  But both of them find plenty of things that they absolutely "need" to have.  I either tell them that they put it on their wish list for birthday/Christmas or ask if they have any money to buy it.  If they do, that's fine.  If they say no, I say "Oh, neither do I.  I guess we'll have to wait."  And I can show them examples when we are shopping of things that I would like to have that I have to wait for.  I think it's just a learning process of teaching them what things have real value and what the value of money is.

But yeah, I do love the BMW line too! Smile

I agree....there just isn't time to sit and read in the bathroom.  I have (on a small handful of occasions) found the time to take a little relaxing bubble bath and brought a book to read.  But otherwise, if I have the time to sit and read, I can think of a lot of other places I would rather do that.

This is very interesting.

Ok, here goes.....my sister makes me crazy!  I love her dearly, but she doesn't get (AT ALL) what it's like to have children to take care of.  She is single (now engaged) and childless.  Because she has hours at a time to spend talking on the phone about nothing, she assumes that must be true for everyone.  Needless to say, that is not the case here.  And she gets crabby if I say that I can't talk right now because I have to feed, bathe, clothe, etc my children.  Oh, also, the first almost 18 months of Timothy's life were beyond insane, both from issues with Timothy and other major stressful events.  She would call me up to complain about everything related to my job, then ask how I was doing.  If I said anything about having a rough day or anything, her automatic answer was "Hey, you chose to have kids!"  Like she didn't choose her job.  VERY IRRITATING!!!!!!

Also, my brother and SIL make me crazy too.  My brother would be fine if he didn't let my SIL tell him what to do and make all of the decisions.  I love both of them too, but she can be really hard to get along with.  And she is one of those people that completely holds a grudge over any little thing, so we're always walking on egg shells trying to keep the peace, even when it means getting stepped on in the process.  Also, my niece and nephew are the same ages as Emma and Timothy.  They all live about halfway between our house and my parents' house.  My mom has some health issues that cause her to really wear out fairly easily, and they are ALWAYS leaving their kids with Mom and Dad to watch for 2 nights or more in a row.  Then Mom gets sick and run down just before we were going to go and visit, so have to change our plans.  Our kids get to spend way less time with them because my mom won't say no to them, and they completely use and abuse that!  It really makes me angry!

Ok, I'm done for now.
