katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago OK, so I have another post about this trip. My middle child woke last night with a cough and the "crud", and when my baby woke at 5:30, I noticed that he has it too. He's coughing mildly, got the boogs, etc...I am not at all worried about my children because this is pretty much how they get a lot. I think they will be contained on the plane, so I'm not worried about that either. We are staying in a house with family though, including my sister-in-law who just had her first child, and he's 5 months old now. She's kind of intense about her baby (rightfully so), but I just tend to not worry as much as she does. I do NOT think that what my children have is dangerous (I know it's not, they get this same cold once a month, or so pretty much from the time they were little babies on-I've been dragging my two youngest in and out of my oldest's school since they were weeks old-what choice did I have). I will call my ped to have her look at them and confirm that this is just a cold. Still, I feel obligated to tell her but my husband (it's his sister) says under no circumstances may I tell her. His argument is that they could just as easily have picked something up on the plane or in the airport and that his sister is going to lose it if I tell her our kids have a cold. I could see her losing it... But if we had a playdate planned, I would most certainly call the mother of the child and inform her of my kids' state. Not that it would STOP me from letting my kids play with someone, but I would also like to know in advance... What should I do?

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago Like Susan, the longest I ever stayed in one school was 4 years. My father was in the military and sometimes I would change schools every six months. My husband also has friends from preschool, and I get jealous too. We may move again, but I think if we do it will be the very last time, for the sake of our kids.

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago I agree, if you are planning on moving again in the near future I would keep my kids at the school they're at. A lot of cars (even vans) get around 18-20 mpg, even better, so 8 miles roundtrip = less than 1/2 a gallon/day, worst case scenario. That's less than $2.00/day. I'm not saying that amount is reasonable, but it's just a number for you to think about. You can also buildyour grocery shopping trips into that, etc. Also, my father was in the military and when I was young we moved sometimes every year, other times even more so that I went to two different schools for the same grade. I survived, and can pretty much get used to any situation because of my background, so if it's what you have to do, your kids will be just fine, I'm sure of it.

Congratulations! You must be so excited. Can't wait to see pics!
katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago I think Eggs Benedict with fried potatoes. That's without a doubt my favorite breakfast. I can keep dreaming though, I'm not sure my husband has ever cooked anything more than burgers on a grill. Not that he's not great, he's just not great at cooking!
katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago I would do just about anything to be able to shop in a regular store, but since we live in the middle of nowhere, I order next to everything online.

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago you can find the positioners at Target or Wal-mart. I think that's a great suggestion.

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago I also find it hard to believe that it's never happened before, kids are curious and from several of my friends I have heard of similar things happening. Don't let the people at your son's school make you feel like this is abnormal, because it's not. This sounds like a great time to talk to him about what's ok and what's not and about privacy in general. Maybe, tell him that mommies know a lot and love to answer questions about anything.

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago I've heard the same thing, that sitting is better at first. Let your ex try it with your son standing up. I doubt it will harm your son's potty training, but your ex will be cleaning the toilet all by himself! Check in with him again after a couple of days, I bet he'll agree with you :-)

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 5 months ago This last trip we took was crazy with the airlines-they're OUT OF CONTROL. When we checked in at the airport the redid our boarding passes so we were had 4 tickets in Row 8, Row 10, Row 20 and Row 23. We had bought tickets all together, but they reassigned us and since our connection was tight we didn't have time to deal with it before boarding the next plane. Ok, so there was me, my husband, my FOUR year old, my TWO year old and my lap baby. When I told the flight attendant my two year old and four year old couldn't sit in their own rows, you know what she told me, "There's NOTHING I can do about it, I can't force anyone to move, you'll have to find someone to switch seats with you." It ended up being a real pain, with the first person I asked telling me he'd only switch with me if I had a window seat to give him (I didn't) and me telling him I was going to set my two year old in Row 8 with him and I was going to sit back in Row 20 and my husband promptly pushing me on down the aisle before my head exploded. Either way, it should have been the airlines responsibility, they rearranged us, they should have fixed it, instead we were treated like garbage. We did however find a very nice lady traveling with teenagers that switched with us so I could sit with my kids. It will be a long time before I fly again.
katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 4 months ago I went shopping this past weekend for a lot of their winter stuff, and I kicked myself looking at all the summer sales...the shorts for $5 and the dresses for $10. I wish I were one of those people who could get it together to shop the sales for the next year. I just can never organize enough to do it.

katiecsJoined: 2/20/07 Posts: 225 | Posted: 4 months ago I think the little pool is a great idea! If you've got an enclosed area, you can stick him in the little pool, set a sprinkler up nearby, bring out toys and read a book while he plays.
