EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 7 months ago KMiranda gave great advice when she said everyone grieves differently. I have observed this many times. Some people like to talk about the loved one, tell stories about him/her, and this is cathartic. You'll often see these people laughing and smiling at funerals, something I can't do. Others are very private about loss and want to be left alone to deal with it in a personal way. I have just experienced the loss of two close friends. I'm the private type. I grieve silently and alone and resent people trying to get me to talk about it. At funerals I go through a box of tissue, go home, and then go through another box. Estella | |
EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 7 months ago I also have the best mother in the world. I cannot thank her enough for all the gifts she has given me. She would give her right arm for me, and I would give mine to my children. The best gifts she ever gave me were wisdom, courage, generosity, and unconditional love. On Mother's Day and every day I treat her like the queen she is. Her wish is my command today and always.

I miss my friend every day and know that we can never speak again. I think about all the things I would have said if I had known we were speaking for the last time.

EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 7 months ago I have never carried a purse-sized planner before until this year. It's a mess, so I think I'll go to an electronic version soon. I'm constantly scribbling things out, changing appts, etc. I need to do this in pencil, but I grab whatever is handy, and it's usually a pen.

EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 7 months ago Listen to your mother. She can recognize a quality guy and won't be fooled by good looks and smooth talking. She is looking at the long view, and you should be, too. Kindness to man and beast, generosity (not just with money), reliability, attentiveness.....these are the attributes of a man with staying power. I have heard this and think it's true.....watch how a man treats his waitress. That speaks volumes about his character.

EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 7 months ago I don't know if I'll get around to the essay, but I just wanted to take the time to wish all you mothers a Happy Mother's Day. This is a special time to honor not only your mother but her mother and her mother's mother and all the mothers who make the world a softer, warmer place. I have never felt more grateful for my mother than right now as she battles stage 4 cancer. After all the battles she fought ( and won!) for me, I wish I could return the favor. She will continue to be my inspiration for the strength of motherhood, for undying unconditional love that only a mother understands.

There were also incredible huge purple wildflowers all along the road, and bright yellow flowers in the field. I will never miss another May there. it was breathtaking!

EstellaJoined: 1/30/07 Posts: 346 | Posted: 6 months ago My little niece was trying to sample bites of other people's food at dinner. Some were more willing to share saliva than others. When one of the family members declined, she said, "What's the problem? We all have the same guts!"
