Dinner. It's a bigger deal with better food, usually, and more atmosphere.

I have always painted family members' faces on the eggs. This includes the whole extended family. The kids get a big kick out of seeing their own faces on eggs as well as everyone else's. Kid up in the tree yells, "Hey, I found Grandpa in the tree!" It's time consuming but fun if you do it all together. I color the faces with crayons, then I dip them in color for the background.

I haven't been on for a while. Hope it's not too late to join the 80s. What a fun idea!

I love Chinese chicken soup: whole chicken, napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, lots of garlic and onion, and noodles. I add carrots, but it's not a Chinese ingredient. It sweetens it a bit.

I'm from a biracial family. Certainly there were cultural differences, but the biggest differences had nothing to do with race but with upbringing. Big families, small families....rural vs urban, etc. I have always considered it an advantage to be biracial. It has opened many doors for me, and I wouldn't trade the experience.

The more people we have explaining sex, the less likely we will have unwanted babies and STDs. Sure, it's best taught at home, but not all parents will do this or do it well. Let the schools give the factual info and the parents can fill in details they feel their kids need to hear.

I live on top of a mountain with a great view of big sky and other mountains. I watched it rise huge and orange, like a harvest moon. I happened to be outdoors walking to a neighbor's house. It was gorgeous.

Cancer. It terrifies me. Just had a negative biopsy report today. I had been holding my breath for a few days.

I like variety, but most days it is Synergy cereal with blueberries, half a banana, walnuts, and soy milk. A glass of orange juice washes down my vitamins.

I used to make lots of  fruit and protein smoothies for my kids. If they ate solid food in the morning, they would puke at morning football practice.

Ok, that explains why I had sons. I have also read that gender is related to the quantity of sex you were having. More sex....female. Less sex....male. I'm not so sure about that one....Smile

Here's how I was taught: put raw eggs in  cold pot of water so water just covers them. Turn stove on medium. As soon as the eggs get to a rapid boil, turn stove off and set for a few minutes. They are done perfectly. I love deviled eggs  best and have two really cute deviled egg platters.

Homework should reinforce and practice what was learned during the day. It should not be busy work or anything that requires a parent's help. It should be short in the early years and at least 30 minutes per core subject by the high school years. Most importantly, the assignment should be meaningful, and the student should be able to understand why it is meaningful.

I believe that the advantages of living with extended family are obvious to most countries besides the U.S. Kids grow up with grandparents as extra role models. There is less of a generation gap because of the closeness of  three generations. Grandparents have more time for kids than parents who are working.  They can be there for after school care. They may also have some good advice for raising kids or a different way of reaching kids that parents may lack. Financially, it can be a huge advantage to pool resources. Twice I have lived with extended family members, and it was hugely successful and helpful.
