What Should I Read Next recommends choices based on your input. For instance, I just finished reading Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth and the following books were recommended based on that book:
Chesapeake - James A. Michener
LONESOME DOVE - Larry McMurtry
The Hand of Justice - Susanna Gregory
London - Edward Rutherfurd
Ironfire: A Novel of the Knights of Malta and the Last Battle of the Crusades - David Ball
Lyonesse: Suldrun's Garden Bk.1 - Jack Vance
In the Company of the Courtesan: A Novel - Sarah Dunant
Pompeji - Robert Harris
The Secrets of Mariko: A Year in the Life of a Japanese Woman and Her Family
- Elisabeth Bumiller
Ball Four - Jim Bouton, Leonard Schecter
"When I was in second grade, I discovered the Hardy Boys series. Ever since, I've loved to read — both for fun and to improve my mind. And I'm always looking for the next great book. Reviews on Amazon and other sites are helpful, but I thought there might be a better way. One afternoon while I was scanning a friend's bookshelf for my next great read, it struck me. When I want to know what books to read, I'd rather turn to a friend than any random person, bestseller list or algorithm. So I thought I'd build a website — a website where I could see my friends' bookshelves and learn about what they thought of all their books.
Goodreads is that site. It is a place where you can see what your friends are reading and vice versa. You can create "bookshelves" to organize what you've read (or want to read). You can comment on each other's reviews. And on this journey with your friends you can explore new territory, gather information, and expand your mind."
Literature-Map, "the tourist map of literature" is another good resource for finding books similar to ones you have already read and loved. For instance, I put Ken Follett into the blank box. It returned a map with many authors, but the ones closest to Ken Follett were ones that have similar writing styles: Ian Fleming, John Grisham, and Robert Ludlum.
Novel Action. is a membership based online book exchange designed for book lovers. Their goal is to provide members with an easy, inexpensive way to get used books. It’s like having every book exchange in the country in one location. Their entire selection of books is held at their business site which ensures quality control and rapid turnaround time.
You can select any books you want from their site and send in an equal number of your books in exchange. With $4.80 flat rate shipping for about 12 paperbacks, no transaction fees, and custom alerts for your favorite authors, books or genres, this is brains on books.
What's your favorite magazine? PC World, Bazaar, Smart Money, Oxygen, People? For a short time, you can log onto Magazines.com and read these magazines and many, many others for free. As a result of copyright laws, I would suspect this free site might not be available for long.
What are you reading today?
Cheers,
Beckie
