Mother & Father...?

Okay, so i was at lunch with my husband, his parents, and my sister-in-law and my niece today, and we were all just talking... and Apparently (and i don't know all the details so if you do please enlighten me) they had read that California has made it a law that you can no longer use the phrases "Mother & Father" or "Grandmother & Grandfather" in public places such as schools because it discriminates against those who don't have them.... okay so i don't know about you, but i don't understand this at ALL! I mean i feel bad for those kids in the world who don't have Moms and Dads and Grandmas and Grandpas or brothers or sisters or aunts and uncles or friends for that matter, but that's just a part of LIFE, isn't it? We don't get to decide who is in our life and who isn't. This is one of the most rediculous things ever. First of all i thought it was an Americans RIGHT to "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"... i thought that pretty much meant we could say WHATEVER we wanted WHENEVER we wanted.... someone PLEASE explain this to me..... When the government starts taking away one freedom and everyone accepts it, when will they stop taking away freedoms....when we have none left to take? hmm...
