Title: How many activities
Posted: 3 yearss ago

I want my daughter to dance, do gym and swim, sing, play tennis and the piano, speak 5-7 languages and fly a rocket ship. But you can't practice for all that every day, or even every month. As an adult, I have always lived by the rule of three. You can do three things pretty well. Once you start adding to that, it is to the detriment of others. One sport, one activity, and one board to sit on for instance. This is beyond work and parenting of course, and three might be too many. But kids have a little more time. The question is joy and room in the brain. I cap my daughter at four. We do gym and swim and will add horses, dance and piano when the summer is finished.

My nephews are just now getting to the age where they can play sports. Joshua loves soccer. Well, I think it's more like he enjoys running around with his friends and having pizza afterwards. I just wouldn't push your kids into doing anything. Let them find what it is they like to do, and go from there. Unless you want them to be millionaires. Then get them into golf and ride them until they are 18 about it everyday. Turn them into a regular tiger woods. Smile

Activities are very good for the children, they seem to handle it a lot better than some parents I know. Don't push them, remember just because we like it doesn't mean they like it! Everything in moderation, keep it balanced and everyone will be happy.

Sounds like she still has alot to do. I try to keep it to around 2. Seems like they are always changing their minds and wanting to do something different 2 weeks later anyways. So the rule is, if you want to try something out, you have to stick with it for more than a month, to give it a fair try. It's worked out pretty well for us. Smile
