My mom has a dog very similar to a Mini Pinch. I am going to bring it home to my kids. The only problem is that I don't know how to teach that dog to go poopy and how to teach her not to take off. We have a small house but huge land and there is plenty of room for her to play outside. Im just scared she will take off. Help Please!

Posted: 2 months ago theres house training and stuff for dogs they are just mats that they are supposed to go on because they have some sort of scent to them they didnt work for us. for getting a dog potty trained you just have to watch them they will start sniffing around pretty fast when they need to go then you take them outside and when they go you give them lots of praise and maybe a treat, when you are outside with them and they do their buisness praise them then to. if they go in the house immediatly take them outside. it might catch on pretty quick or it might take alittle time it will just take some work. when i was potty training our dog he ended up being put on meds that made him drink alot so he would pee alot to it made potty training very challenging the vet even felt sorry for me and apologized hehe. one thing i have found interesting from watching its me or the dog on animal planet is alot of times if a dog gets used to going to the bathroom on carpet it wont go on dirt so its best to find a place that has grass for them to go. as for the running off that depends on the dog best bet is going to be to take it out on a leash or have a small area of your yard fenced. | |

Posted: 2 months ago I am REALLY, REALLY thankful- we actually never really had much of a problem with the potty training thing with Belle. (Other than last year during the winter she didn't want to go outside and would just go in the garage at night- REALLY irritating but still better than in the house!) As for keeping her in the yard- we bought a wireless fence for Belle. It is basically the same as the in-ground electronic fencing, except that instead of burying the wires in the ground, there is a wireless transmitter that you have plugged in somewhere (ours is in our garage) and it transmits a signal for a radius of I think 180 feet in all directions. You can also adjust the size of the area. There is a collar that you put on them when you put them outside, and when they approach the boundary, it starts beeping. If they cross the boundary, they get a little shock (you can also adjust that). When I was growing up, we had one of the in-ground fences for our dog, and he knew that as he was crossing the boundary he would get shocked, but as soon as he was past it he was good to go. With this one, it will keep intermittantly buzzing them for 30 seconds or until they cross back into the boundary. It has been AWESOME for us! Belle knows exactly where the line is and stays nicely inside the boundary. But it she doesn't have the collar on, she's gone! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.

Here is a link for the wireless fence that we use: http://www.petsafe.net/ ... We got ours from a hunting/outdoor/sporting goods store (Randy had a bunch of points saved up for that store, so it was really cheap!). The other thing with this is that the batteries on the collar are not rechargeable, so you need to get replacements. They do last quite a while though, and are pretty cheap to replace. But yeah, all I can say is that it works wonderfully here! (We also have the benefit of Randy bringing Belle out to the farm with him most days, where she just runs around after the guys as they are working and has lots of room to run and go crazy!) Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best! "I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." -Psalm 57:9-11.
