Madelyn is 9 months old, and our last child. Since she has started with this bladder infection she has started waking up at night again. To get her to go back to sleep I started giving her a bottle. During the day I nurse her, at least I used too. Now she seems to be interested in everything but nursing and I am sooooo not ready to stop nursing yet. With Megan, I nursed her exclusively for 15 1/2 months. One day she just stopped taking a bottle, so I never went through this with her. DH thinks I should just stop but I don't want to, this will be the last kiddo I get to nurse and I just don't want it to be over at 9 months. I thought I'd have at least until she was a year old. Tonight I am going to try and sit down with her and nurse her when she wakes up, and I am almost to the point were I am going to just toss all the bottles now so she can't have them period. | |

Don't give up. If it's important to you, you should stick with it.

Definitely turn to LLL. I noticed with my last two that right around that age they lost interest in nursing, somewhat. They get so busy, they couldn't be bothered. Keep with it and if you don't want to continue supplementing, you might consider pumping to keep your supply up, at least until baby gains a little more focus. That's what I did both times and everything was ok in the end, but I totally understand how you're feeling about your last babe. My boy is almost 16 months old and I've been trying to wean him forever now, but it always comes back to, "oh, he's just a baby."

Are you in a quiet place when you nurse? I know, that's probably close to impossible but I remember all the distractions used to get my daughter's attention, sometimes I had to go in a room by myself so she would eat. She wouldn't take a bottle so I had to do what ever i needed to do to get her to eat or she wouldn't, when she finally gave it up all together at a year and a half i just gave her a cup and she drank like the rest of us. She was fascinated by regular cups. Anyway, I think at that age that is probably what is happening, she is very distracted. Why don't you nurse her at night since she has been waking up anyway? That may be an easy time to do it, it's dark and quiet, it may help her get back into it.
