So, your state will determine the minimum age for permits and licenses, but did you get it right away? Some people never drive. Did you pass your test on the first attempt? What kind of test does your state make you take? A full-on road test or a DMV parking lot test?

I waited to get mine until I was 18 and moving to NC had to get them befor I moved to greensboro.

In ohio we have to take a written test to get permit then you take your drivers test on the road to pass the big test to get the licenses.

When i moved to NC after having ohio lic they only made me take a written test...which i was suprised was all about driving int he snow...LOL not all was about snow but i just remember it haveing more then enough questions about snow. i guess they wanted to be sure that when it did snow ppl knew how to handel it...lol

Got it when I was 16, had 2 trys temps  and first , on the road test  passed w flying colors ...

still dont have mine been trying to work on getting it but no one has time to let me drive =(

I was 16 when I passed the written and driving test first try,  But i'd be shocked if I didn't, my father was a Driving Teacher... hehe so i'd been getting 'lessons' about how to drive properly since I was about 13 or so.. 

I was one of those weird children who had no desire to drive- I got mine when I was 19... I passed my test on the first attempt! 

I also got mine shortly after I turned 16.  Since my b-day is in the winter, I did wait until the snow and ice were gone.  We had to do the big on-the-road test, but I passed on the first try. 

For quite a while, I thought that I really hated driving at all.  It turns out that I just really disliked driving with my parents.  They are complete polar extremes when it comes to driving.  Dad is a very aggressive driver, and was always telling me to speed up and drive closer to the middle line.  Mom doesn't like driving and is a VERY defensive driver.  She was constantly telling me to slow down and drive closer to the shoulder.  It was VERY frustrating!  You could tell that I spent more time driving with Mom, though, because on my test, I actually lost points for driving too slow!

I got mine shortly after I turned 16 and had completed the state mandate driver school, which required a certain # of hours driving with a hired instructor.

The test was a road test, which included curb parking on a hill.  I took my test driving a stick shift and totally caused havic with the curb parking (i.e., another vehicle had to stop and wood flew out the back of the truck bed).  However, I had mada a tape of soothing sounds that was playing (quietly and on my side of the truck only) that allowed me to remain calm and explain to the tester what I was doing. 

I passed - YEAH, 1st time! 

Our state has new laws now, but I'm not sure what they are and don't want to rush the time for me to learn them.

I think I got mine at 17 on the first try. I took a driveing test and it was so easy. I have never ever goten a ticket, thank God

I was horrified to drive but got mine at 18 because I had a kid & my hubbie had his taken away so I had to get it to get around, I passed on my first try, & they had me drive all over town!!

I got my learners permit at 15 and 8 months and got my license the day i turned 16.  I was so excited to get both my mom let me have the day off of school and made a big deal out of both events.  We were the first ones there on both days.  I did not have to take anything for my learners... just pass the course at school.. then for my real permit I had to take a driving test and a written test. Passed them both.  I don't think my parents drove for those 3 months i had my permit because i drove them everywhere.  The weekend I got my license I took my girlfriends to the mall.  I've always loved to drive and still do!  And yes... i am ticket and accedent free, thank god!
