Title: Watching Movies

Things sure have changed from when VHS was all the rage and you were in Blockbuster every Friday night hoping to get there early enough to still have a decent selection of tapes left. Now that online rentals have gotten so popular with sites like Netflix, cable networks offer HBO and other premium movie channels on demand, cable and satellite both offer DVR service where you can record the movie and watch it whenever you want and there are so many movie channels that you may just watch the movie when it's actually on, do you ever still go to Blockbuster or a movie store and rent the DVD anymore? How do you choose to watch movies?

We are not big movie family so we rent still.  Their is a Redbox at the grocery store that I use- a DVD vending machine.  It is a treat.

I've seen those boxes at the grocery store. Don't they end up being more money? I was always skeptical about those.

As for us -- we watch them on demand usually or we'll just buy it if we trust it enough. On occasion we'll rent one from Blockbuster, but it always gets brough back unwatched. We have to watch them right then in the moment when we're ready, otherwise, we'll never get to it. Our kids make it so we basically never watch them anyway.

I haven't been to blockbuster in about 3 yrs. We used to do on demand or ppv sometimes even record the movie on our dvr but in the last couple of months we've been going through netflix. It works for us because you don't have to worry about taking the movie back late or accidently being erased off the dvr. You can hold on to it until your done and we are big movie watchers so it ends up being cheaper also.

After my last experience of attempting Blockbuster with a 15 mo. old, who really wanted to run around, I jumped on the Netflix train.

I could probably use it more, we sometimes sit on a movie for a week because we are not BIG movie watchers.  But it is so worth it and I love the variety.  I have finally got DH on board - he was very skeptical at first.

The wierd thing about the evolution of watching movies at home...

I remember as a kid, renting the VCR from the video store and that was totally normal.  If my memory is correct, I was almost finished with elementary school when we actually purchased one.

Wow, I can't remember the last time we actually rented a movie...

We do go to movies occasionally.  Mostly we will watch things on tv/dvr, sometimes buy them.  Also, we borrow movies from the library a lot.  Whenever we go, the kids are allowed to pick out a couple books and 1 movie.  They have a pretty decent selection and you get to keep it for a week for free (longer if you renew it).  It works out really well for us.  There have only been a couple of times that we have gotten a movie back late, but it was still a lot cheaper than renting and getting it back late.

We have a membership at Blockbuster where we get charged $24 a month. We go rent movies everyday and we can rent as many times a day as we like. We don't really go to the theathers sinces its more expensive for six. We have on demand as well but sometimes it takes a while for them to load new movies. We only buy on paperview when its really a movie we have not seen.

we buy movies on dvd havent been to a movie theater in about 5 years maybe more it was just cheaper to buy the movie on dvd when they came out since you can usally pick them up for $20 or less. we will also record movies on our tivo from the pay channels if we see something on that we wanted to see. our current problem is we have run out of room for dvds but we have multiple shelves from our bookshelf's removed so simon wouldnt pull them off but right now they are on the shelf 2 deep and stacked on top of the bookshelf too hehe.

We use to rent and buy quite a few movies. Recently we had been renting from redbox. Since I now will wash dishes for my brother at times, I borrow some movies and we now watch them. (The Love Bug was the most recent). I haven't been to the movies since Christmas -may go to the IMAX soon to see Batman. I plan to not going to movies for awhile since ds is pretty young.

we joined that program at Blockbuster where you can rent 3 movies and keep them as long as you need to.  And we are a DVR family.  we record movies and shows all day long.  We rarely watch anything when it is actually on, we are not a commercial family!  Smile  As for actuallyw watching the movies....i usually fall asleep.

I take advantage of the on line services for movies that are classics that I haven't seen yet or for those that I know I will never get a chance to see in theatres...It's been a Loooooooooooong time since I've been to a movie in the theatre.

I also take my son to Blockbuster every once in a while so he can pick out a movie just for him. He loves it and it's a great opportunity for me to pick up the latest DVD release.

The list of must-see movies on Netflix is growing faster than I can keep up with. I'd love to add any users to my Friends account to help narrow down the movies to what I should definitely not miss.
