Title: rolling over
Posted: 2 yearss ago

Hi, my name is Ricki. I have a 19 week old boy, Ryker. I'm new to this website and look forward to talking with you. Ryker is moving all over his crib at night. He rolls onto his tummy and will wind up against the side of his crib. Those wedges don't work anymore and I heard they were not suppose to be used in the crib anyway. I watched a thing on consumer reports saying that the only things that are suppose to go in a crib are a mattress, sheet and light blanket. I'm terrified of SIDS. Any advice? Does everyone go through this? I also read that you are suppose to put them down on their backs and then just let them lay however they want. i'll put him down on his back and he immediatly rolls over. If I try to turn him over again he just gets upset and rolls right back over. I guess I just have to let him be, or neither of us will get any sleep.

I have a 10 month that does the same thing to this day. She rolls so much that sometimes her legs stick out the crib. What i done was take two small blankets and roll them up, then wedge them under neath him so that theres no way for him to roll and take the pillow out of his crib. being on an incline makes them feel they have to rollover. I hope this hepls you out in any way. GOOD LUCK!

My son is a CrAzY sleeper. I had to eventually take out the bumper in his crib because I was afraid he was somehow going to get tangled up in it and choke. I also only let him sleep with 2 blankets. As long as your baby is able to rollover by themselves I wouldnt worry to much. I wouldnt put anything extra into the crib though, just to be safe. I had talked with the pediatrician about this and she told me the same thing. As long as he can rollover he is fine. With all my kids I always put them to bed on their backs, and when I would check on them after they were asleep, they were always on their tummies. Evertime!
I have also heard that pacifiers can help prevent SIDS. I think I read that in Babytalk magazine.

Hope this helps out a little.Smile

My son rolled over and moved all over the crib, it totally had me freaked out for awhile.  At one point, I did read that if they are rolling over they are able to protect themselves better and the risk of SIDS is reduced.  I was checking on him constantly and very grateful for our monitor.  Good luck!

I think that everyone must go through this anxiety when the baby starts rolling over.  I remember one of the first nights, going into my daughter's room over and over again all night and flipping her back over onto her back!!  When I look back it seems so ridiculous!!  But I think that we are all so desperately (rightly so) afraid of SIDS in those first months.  One thing I used to do is wedge her up against the side of her crib on her back so that it was harder to roll over, because she could only roll in one direction at first.  Just try to breathe and know that soon your baby will be moving all over the place and this worry about SIDS will pass.

simon would only sleep in his swing the first few months because of reflux, once he started sleeping in his crib he would only sleep on his side but then he started rolling over to his back or tummy and would instantly wake up thats when we started using the sleep positioner. he was fine with the sleep postioner for awhile then started rolling over the sides so we took it out, that was right before he got his doc band. once he got his doc band he preffered sleeping on his tummy with his butt up in the air, most banded babies like to sleep on their tummies from what ive heard. now he he moves all over the place in his crib and usally ends up laying across the bottom. i think they push the back to sleep campaign alittle to much and dont explain that parents need to make sure their babies are not laying on the same part of their head all the time. since the back to sleep campaign has been drilled into parents heads cases of plagiocephaly, brachycephaly and torticollis have gone up.

ALL 3 OF MY KIDS WERE ALL OVER THE CRIB!! THE FIRST KID I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE SIDS THING BUT IF THE KID CAN ROLL OVER HE OR SHE CAN LIFT THEIR HEAD UP TO BREATHE & THEY WILL BE FINE  I WAS TOLD BY MY DOC. AND 3 KIDS LATER THEY ARE FINE & NOW A NEW REPORT SUGESTS THE SIDS THING IS SOMETHING IN THE KIDS BRAIN & HERIDITARY I THINK THEY SAID ON THE NEWS. THEY ARE DOING 10 MORE YRS. OF RESEARCH LAST I HEARD. BUT MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 10 MONTHS HAD SLEPT IN HER CRIB OH ABOUT 10 TIMES SINCE SHE HAS BEEN ABLE TO ROLL OVER BECAUSE SHE GETS IN BETWEEN THE BARS MOVES THE BUMPER AND ECT. SO SHE SLEEPS IN HER PACK N PLAY WITH A BLANKET THAT WAY SHE DOESN'T GET CAUGHT ON ANYTHING.

I know what you mean,  it is scary to hear about sids, but I think that you are in the clear. One of the big sids fear is a young baby on stomach and not able to move their head.  I am worried now about my 6 year old giving choking hazards to his 4 month old brother.  There's always something to worry about when you are a Mom!
