Title: Want to try again but scared. Need advice
Posted: 11 months ago

With my first pregnancy I had severe hyperemis until 22 weeks and then at 30 weeks I developed preeclampsia and had to have emergency c-sect at 34 weeks. My little was girl was fine, she had to spend 2 weeks in the NICU, but she hasn't had any problems. I desperately want to try again and I always wanted my children to be close in age again, but I am afraid of the hyperemis. I want to be able to take care of my little girl. At 20 weeks I was transferred care to a specialist and he put me on phernergan (sp?), b6, zantac, and a motion sickness patch. I didn't throw again after I was put on all those medications and I stayed on them until I delivered, but I don't know if they are the reason I got better or if it just passed on its own. Any personal experiences and advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you!

I didnt have the same issues as you but  issues i had...i realize now that each pregnency is different... with my first i had terrible issues with my asthma, and then later in the pg problems with toximia.

then with second asthma was fine but i devloped blood clots and had to deal with them by givign injections twice aday ....and was hospitalized for dehydration and put on meds to stop me from vomiting all the time... I took the meds for a bit, but the sickness subsided on its own... go figure... each pg is different you may be just fine this time around

With my 3rd child I had morning sickness where I lost ten pounds within the first four months (I didn't ever have to be hospitalized though) had a fabulous end of fourth/fifth months and then at 28 weeks they noticed I was having contractions and my cervix was changing so they put me on bed rest since my 2nd child came a month early and spent just under two weeks in the hospital.

This last pregnancy was a trying pregnancy and then out popped the most perfect baby ever. (He was not a great child to have as my last because now I think I should have ten more because he's so good.)

I was fortunate to have family able to come a stay for weeks at a time to help. Also, I was (and am) involved in MOPS (mother of preschoolers) and those ladies had meals to my house and offers of help transporting kids to and from school, taking them off my hands for a time, etc. I even had a girlfriend come over and clean my house (she threatened violence if I tried to stop her :-)  ).

If you have the support, you can do it.  Time it to where you know you will have family and friends that can rally around you!

Good luck in your decision! I hope all goes well!

My sister-in-law had severe hyperemesis also with her first 2 pregnancies.  She was in and out of the hospital quite a bit.  But, she is now pregnant with number 3 and having an easier time.  She was still pretty sick for a while, but nowhere near as bad as it had been.  I believe she is about 4 months along now.  I know the second time she was really sick through most of the pregnancy, but this time she is doing really well now, and is back to home-schooling the two older kids.  So really, every pregnancy is different.  And you and your doctor know what things to watch for so you can be on top of things from the very beginning.  And I agree that if you can try to time things to have the most support available.  I wish you the very best, whatever you decide.
