My son just turned 4 on tuesday. I wanted to send him to preschool but its kind expensive. My two older son's did not attend preschool and they are doing great. The reason why I want to send this one is because he needs to get better at this talking. I figured that by him being around other kids he would learn how to speak better. DO any of you have your kids in a pre- preschool?

My 5 yr. old same thing he really was never around other kids & he has a speech problem, he didn't start speaking until 3. I went to a speech eval & my insurance won't cover & it was over $1000- to start & 10 sessions!! So I said he could wait by then I checked into preschool out of the question I worked part-time & it was more then I made so this yr. he started kindergarden & he has speech for free. The state pays the school & he is doing alot better speaking his teacher even says she can understand him, If you can afford preschool I say go for it but we couldn't.

I just wanted to let you gals know there are programs out there that provide speech/occupational thearpies even physical therapy to young children at little or no cost to you.  Here is the link to Wisconsin's Birth to three http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/bdds/birthto3/ ...   Although it is not called Birth to three in every state it is usally run through your states Dept.of Health and Family Services-  I was not aware of our programs with Nolan, who after 3 went through the school.  When Megan started showing speech delayes I talked to my Dr.  who gave me the go ahead.  She will start Speech soon and our out of pocket expense will be about $10 a month-if that.  Do a little research and ask aroundSmile

I cheked the website but did not find one near. I also talked to his Dr. about this and she also sudjested Speeck Therapy but my thing is that I want him to interact with other kids. My insurance does not cover it and I know it would probably be more expensive than Preschool. I am still going to look around other schools around here and if not then Im going to try my best to teach him what ever I can. Thank you all.

Have you checked with your school yet?  My youngest son had speech problems.  He was tested...for free...through the school system and qualified for preschool at no cost to me.  It was all funded through the school district.  It might be worth giving the school a call.  He was picked up by bus from my front door, went to preschool 4 days per week for 2 1/2 hours, and was brought back to my front door when school was over.  The program did wonders for his speech.  He started kindergarten with his peers with no speech problems.

I was thinking about that yesterda. I am going to call the school or maybe the district. I have heard of these places helping the kids so hopefully they can help Moses.

You might want to try a church preschool. The church by us was $95 a month. Or try asking your school if they offer preschool. I know our school does, Im not sure how much they cost but I would still just call to find out.

Good luck!

I am actually a speech therapist at a preschool. Something to consider....you may want to look into IFSP (individualized family service plan) it is part of IDEA, which is a government program for children with disabilities....I KNOW THAT SOUNDS SCARY AND I'M TOTALLY NOT SAYING YOUR CHILD HAS A DISABILITY!!! Speech/language delays and disorders fall under "special education" for monetary reasons. anyway, IFSP helps families of young children (before school age) with early intervention. Your child would of course have to qualify but it is an option you may want to look into. To save you time, if he's just having trouble producing speech sounds correctly...he wouldn't qualify.

Preschool itself is a great idea in my opinion! the kids make huge gains in such a short time! Oh another thing to look into is whether or not the preschool your looking into has a speech therapist. Not all do. Good luck. If you have any questions I can give you general answers or offer great web sites, books, research and things!

We are starting preschool this summer with summer camp.  Rivers is graduating from the Toddler room and next step at our care provider is preschool.

We are going to have to pay about $600 a month for 2 Full days and 2 Afternoons, not sure how many days are for the qoute you recieved.  Its almost double what we are paying now for, but I think it is worth it and I'm excited that he will now be involved in the full day activities.

Its a bummer and I'm sure we could find another option for a little less; however, the location & care are great.

I just couldn't believe that now I have to register for summer camp and then for school and then I'll have to register for winter camp next year.  While our primary reason for doing it is to cover the hand-off for our work schedules, we have to adjust to a academic school schedule because our care provider is also a private school through 6th grade.  Crazy stuff!!

His problem is that he doesn't pronounce words correctly. He says everything right but for some reason he can't seem to pronouce the letters L, R correctly. We understand him but I just feel that him being 4 he should have been talking better. I was thinking about my other boy he was the same way, he started this program they have here in twon that prepares them for Kinder its almost like a preschool but not as long. I am going to teach him as much as I can at home and sign him up for this program.

I am feeling the stress right now myself for deciding on preschool or not.  Olivia will be 3 in August.  It will cost $190 a month for a couple hours a day for 2 days a week.

When she's 4, it will be $525 a month!  Surprised

I am not sure about this year yet or if we will wait until she's 4 but I will look someplace else for next year.

How do they expect people to afford these things!

I did send my 12 year old to preschool at 3 and 4 years old but I don't remeber it costing this much.

Man, I wish our daycare/pre-school was $429 a month. NJ is so crazy expensive, I can't take it. I pay $936 a month for two kids to go 15 hours a week, and that was the absolute cheapest school in Northern NJ. Anyone else wanted $2,000 or more a month and we already pay $1,300 a month in rent for our 2-bedroom apartment. How we can buy a home is beyond me anymore (my husband writes today's feature and it's all meshing together), but the cost of school is crazy.

In most of NJ's towns, though, at 4 years old they go to pre-school as part of the public school systems (for free). The only problem is finding care if you're working. For us, the public pre-school probably won't work because Anna will need to be somewhere in the afternoons, which means I'd be paying for the same thing I'm paying for now.
