We have so many kinds of braces these days, but usually when I see a kid with them, they have what appear to be regular metal braces. And rubber bands! That was always strange -- the idea of rubber bands holding your jaw together.

i had braces for 5 years nd before i had the braces i had a bunch of teeth pulled then had a jaw spreader. i had to have 2 teeth drop down after having the jaw spreader and they threatened to cut my gums and pull them down thankfully the came down on their own. after i got my braces off they said i needed to get my wisdom teeth pulled or i would be in braces again so i had them yanked out, they hadnt come in yet but were compacted, but at least i was knocked out for that one. since i had so much stuff done to my teeth i have developed a fear of dentists so i havent been in a really long time ill pay for it eventually =/

Yes I did!  With rubber bands-and i always got wax to put on the braces if they got sore.  I had red white and blue bands for the 4th and pink for easter.  I had a bumper-a tiny foam tube on the bottom for awhile.  I still have a top retainer in my mouth.  My bro had them too but he was awful-he use to pull out his wires it always peed my parent off.  I am also wit pezzy, my experience wasn't as bad but I too have fear of dentists.

I think alot of ppl have dentalphobia.... it's a real thing ya know.

I fear the dentist so much i have to sadate myself befor I go. MyBFF mandy vomits everysingel time she has to sit in the chair.... shes got it bad... she needed braces but could never do it.

I have never had braces myself. My teeth have always been good, even strong to, I only have one cavity. Now, my hubby on the other hand, when he was younger he had to have teeth pulled then braces for 3 years, now he has a great smile. Hes happy he did it. But 3 years in High school with braces was hard on him. I just hope our daughter gets my teeth genes.

No braces for me.  Sam who is 8 already as an orthodonist appt as a referral from his dentist because he needs teeth pulled and will have to then get braces.  When I was growing up back in the day - no one ever got braces until after their baby teeth were gone.  I have a hard time with him being so young and having so many "baby" teeth that are NOT ready to come out, still that it is hard to believe that if we pull all of them and then put braces on when they come off, how is there a guarntee that his adult teeth will grown in straight and not cost more later on in years.

I had them for 4 years as did my brother.  I guess the orthodontist thought I was a responsible 13 year old and took them off early... HAHAHA.. he gave me this positioner to wear at nights (like a football mouth piece) and i also have a perminant retainer in my bottom teeth.  Needless to say the positioner collected dust until I greaduated high school and my top teeth are crooked again!  I will get my braces put back on because that is one of the things I don't like about myself.  So after kids are all birthed....I'm going back to metal mouth! 

mE NOR MY GIRLS EVER HAS EVER HAD THE BRACES     HOWEVER   THE FALSE TEETH  I NOW HAVE  AND THAT  IS FAR WORSE   IM CERTAIN  LOL  SO ENJOY THE FANCY COLORFUL BRACES FOR THE TIME  AND TAKE  ADVANTAGE OF GOOD HEALTHY TEETH  BLESSINGS  ON ALL THE PEARLY WHITES  LOL

I had them for cosmetic reasons only & it was a bout a yr. I did in H.S. I was going to get clear but I heard about how they turn color & they only offered them on the bottom of the mouuth so I said screw it & give me all metal, yes I did wear the different color bands- school colors around football season but I mostly stuck to baby blue bands.
