Just curious if anyone has heard about the "Real IDs" that state DL's are supposed to be converting to...

This article was the first I heard about it and it stood out becuase I live in one of the statuss that is not converting. 

Since I don't know much about them, can't pass too much judgement - though my 1st reaction is that this is just another step we have to go through now...and I have to make sure my passport is current unless AZ goes down this path by May.

the gov. has yet to review then new rules but they have already been talking about a 3 in 1 id but theyre not sure if it would comply with real id.

currently i dont see the state having the money to implement anything new at this point in time. i think it will eventually be put into place but it might take awhile i can just imaging how bad the mvd will be after or if its implemented.

I must be out of the loop too, because I hadn't heard about that either.  But yeah, it does sound like a big pain.  If your state doesn't wish to comply, then you are forced to use a passport (which I don't have because I haven't needed one) in order to board ANY flight or enter a federal buildling.  So, if your state decides not to participate, then you get punished....the whole thing just doesn't make much sense to me.  Not to mention the extra problems and delays at the airports....

I think its a good idea. If people have such a problem with privacy then it tells me what are they hiding??? Do you people realize that on your drivers license in AZ that black stip on the back contains information about you. It contains your full name and birthdate. Most of the gas stations will swipe your license to make sure you are you and your of age to buy cigarettes or beer.  This real id thing isnt far off then what we have already. Most of our illegals use a fake id/license to get health benefits from our government and to get jobs illegally. Im tired of it. I say go for the Real Id! I support it.

I don't really have a problem with the implementation of this.  The thing I have a problem with is if states are allowed to not comply.  That's what is going to cause problems.  If it is absolutely required in all states, then I don't see a problem.  I just think it would be a major pain if your state decided not to participate and your life becomes more difficult as a result.

I think of anohter pain in the butt to deal with at the DMV if this goes into effect but what if some people can't get passports? I know of some people who are not allowed to get them because of prior felonies & that was one of the rules no passports. Just more & more to worry about these days & they will find a way to make these to, just like currency.

Support is not my concern at this point and can see pros / cons.

I travel monthly by air and if the state doesn't comply, I have one more thing to do.  And, since we don't know, steps need to be taken now. 

Theyve been talkin this stuff for years and was on news last week  showing the states  NOT interested  and personally I see it as a very REAL potential threat to all peoples  , Isnt Big Brother watchin us all enuff already?  And as a Christisn   Its only step closer to the Mark to me   sigh along w the kids who now required to wear chips in backpacks  to and from school  in upper eastern states  

I don't have a problem with it if it improves security. Big Brother knows everything already if you use the Internet.
