Title: Gift cards for Christmas
Posted: 1 years ago

I don't know about you all but I have several people to get presents for this Christmas.  Some people are very picky about what they want.  I find it easier to just grab gift cards for some people.  Are any of you a gift card giver?

Just talking about this with the fam.-  I hate giving gift cards to stores.-  I try to have a purpose though if I do give them-i.e.Walmart for your garden this year etc.  I am a present person.  Although what is fun for couples is a dinner and movie certificate.  For my sis and her man this year birthday time I gave them tickets to see a Shakesphere play-  They loved it

I don't normally give a gift card unless it is on the person's list.  When I don't know what to get someone and go the gift card route, I normally do a gift card to the entire mall as opposed to just one store or to Amazon.com.  That way they have flexibility in the item they get.

I'd prefer not to give gift cards, as I don't think it is personable.  However, there are some people that are difficult to pick out for.  They either have everything you would probably get them, not have the time to use the gift, space issues, or are just that picky.

For me, I want to give a gift that the person will appreciate both the thought and the gift and so for some a gift card it the gift.  When I do that, I still try to get a little something to go along with it.

Sometimes it is just easier to give gift cards. Its esp hard for my kids cause they are at that stage now that they are not into toys and they arent adults yet. So this year I just said forget it and I got them gift cards. I did get them some stuff they want. I get my 19 yr old niece and 18 yr old nephew gift cards cause its just easier too.

Before giving a gift card I always know what kind of stores my friends like to shop at.  If you get a gift card to their favorite store, it can be seen as a personalized gift.  I know safeway has over 250 to choose from.  Makes it way easier instead of trying to find the stores to get the cards.  I'm going to start my shopping over the weekend.

We get Visa gift cards for our parents unless we know of something specific that they could use. No one else gets gifts from us besides Ammon...that way we can spend tons of money on him.

I am a fan of gift cards, too. You can tuck them into a card. You don't have to wait in line at the post office. You can be sure the recipient is getting something he or she likes. I do worry about them expiring, though. I gave a friend of mine an Olive Garden gift card over a year ago for her birthday. (OG is her favorite restaurant) I assumed she would use it right away. Just a couple of months ago when I was visiting her city, she suggested we use the gift card. I was shocked she still had it. We didn't end up going there, and now I worry that she never used it or it had expired and she didn't tell me. This year I sent her a gift card to a department store thinking she might not wait a year. Let's hope that a year from now she doesn't invite me to go shopping with her....

Finally finished my Christmas shopping.  Grabbed a couple of gift cards for some friends.  I didn't have to step foot in the retail stores for the cards.  I got all of them from my local grocery store.  Do you all get your gift cards from the grocery or the retail stores directly?

I love Starbucks gift cards.  I always give them but never get them as a gift (but I would LOVE to get one!)

I agree that I like to get people a specific gift that I know they will like.  But sometimes it just works better to get a gift card for their favorite store.  And I have done the gift card for dinner and a movie, and one year got my sis-in-law a gift certificate to get a massage.  So it really depends....if you got them that for a specific reason and put a lot of thought into, I'm definitely cool with that.

I was watching the news this morning and people are rushing to the post office to get their huge packages delivered on time.  Good old gift cards can be placed in an envelope and dropped into the mail box.

Hey Supermomof4, your husband says the darndest things lol.
