It would help to give us an idea of when you started driving. 1978 and 1987 didn't have the same cars, so if you drove a '79 car in '79, it was probably better than driving it in '87. So, whenever it was, what was your first car?

I started driving when I turned 18. in 1996

My dearly departed "stella" she was a 1983 olsmoblie omega.... with vinyl interior red vinyl too.... bench seats front and back very roomy... she was a silver color at one time but the years in the salt and NE ohio air polution turned her to a dual gray. but i still loved her she was mine and i paid for her all by myself! The best 500$ dollars I had spent up to that time.

She got me to NC the first trip I made down there and than died shortly after... her remains got crushed and burnt and melted into something new.

this isnt my car but a 1982 image i got from googel incase you guys needed refreshed.

WELL I HONESTLY CANT REMEMER THE YEAR   but    my very first own car was a PLYMOUTH FURY  RAGTOP,With sleek black body ,white body and black interior. she could go  over 100 mph on highway, her front seats were buckets, and was my love ..she could hold me kids and a 240 lb ST bernard , and she was sweet.  she retired when her top quit working   but i still think of her today   w her gas guzzling v8 engine .twas around 74

Oh how I wish I had a car earlier in my life... but living in a small city...small enough that when my Hubby and I lived downtown, we didn't need a car..we could walk to get groceries, the mall, anything..well mostly everything, so that was the sacarifice we made, no car!!   (this is where I should say thanks to my parents, they let me borrow the van when really necessary!!)                                                              Needless to say, that we always wished we had enought $$ to get a car so one week before Christmas last year, we got our first car!!   2006 Kia Rio, and how I love my Kia..  So this past spring, summer, and fall our family has enjoyed this beautiful Island we live on going from adventure after adventure, pick a direction, pack a picnic and we were off!!

I still don't drive. But I did buy a car when I was 18 planning to drive. In 2002 I bought an '88 Cavalier. It was red and I had cow print seat covers. I loved it. My hubby ended up driving (and killing) it, but my daughter was toted around in it for a while.

I didn't even try to get my drivers license until I was 21 years old because I grew up on the northside of Chicago where I never needed to drive.

My mom STILL does not drive and STILL lives in the tiny attic apartment I grew up in.

I only got my license at that time because I got a job in the suburbs and the bus ride all the way there and back was not something I wanted to do.

So as soon as I got my DL, I bought a brand new 2 door hatch-back Ford Escort.  It was in 1990.  I LOVED that car but I wanted a Mustang! Cool

My parents gave me their old car when I got my license at 16 in 1997.

It was an 1988 Plymouth Reliant - powder blue and UGLY but I loved that thing!  LOL  I wish I had a picture to download but I'll try to find a picture that is similar...

Here

mine was similar to that one with no hubcaps and the dash light was out so in the dark the only way to tell how fast you were going was "when she starts shaking - we are going 65" LOL

Oh... my first car!  It was in 1995 and it was a plymouth duster.  It was in the 80s, it was not the muscle car body style.. It looked more like and older body mustang.  It was a funny car.  It did not cut off when I took the key out.  I would drive to school and the principal would come by 1st period to let me know my car was still running.  I totaled it that summer hitting a deer.  After that it was a 93 plymouth acclaim, then an 87 honda accord, 03 celica, 02 altima, and now an 05 town and country.  Ahhhh... the only one i miss is the celica!  One day, I'll have another!

The love of my life - a 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo.

I loved that car!  It was maroon with a blk half roof, maroon interior.

I bought a 1992 Chevy Lumina Eurosport brand new in 92 just because it reminded me of my Monte Carlo!

I bought and paid for my first car when I was 16 in 1986.  Yep, just aged myself! LOL!

That was my all time favorite car...a 1972 VW Bug.  It had no air conditioning and an AM radio. Best $3000 I ever spent.  5 years of babysitting money.   Loved that car!  I traded it in for a brand new 1988 Nissan 4 x 2 pick up truck with custom paint, rims and tires off of the show room floor.  It was beautiful!  I also paid for almost all of it myself, well the first $11,000, my parents paid $465 so that I wouldn't have to get a loan.  I had that truck for years...even after I got married and had kids, until a bad storm sent roof tiles from our home crashing down on it.
