Ok, I scrolled back a bit and looked at the last potty training thread.  It didn't really offer any advice on this particular matter though.  So if this has been addressed before back farther, sorry for the repeat.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether a little potty chair is better than the rings you put on the regular size toilet.  Any advice or stories would be appreciated.

Only used seats  and LOVED them , back in the day, nowadays have used rings  messier I think  and and method of choice now is simply set em on potty  and boys hold it down, girls bend head/backs forward tad as they learn balance... wonder why I never thought to do for my own hehheh

in my experience jan those lil potties are a bit of a waste.... both my kids liked the novelty of the idea of thier own potty but never really used them. but both loved the lil ring that fit on the BIG potty....

plus those lil potties are kinda gross....

i still have both potties and keep one down stair for if liv cant make it up stairs but she is doing fine on the BIG potty so i think i may beable to get rid of it....i will keep one and use on car trips as its so nice to have a porta potty in the car on long rides.

From what I have seen if you use the seat, then you have to teach them things twice.  Once to use the seat, and then again for the big toilet, because it is quite different.  I have a boy and a girl that I trained with the ring that goes right on our toilet, never had any problems. They loved feeling like a big person and I didn't have to clean up, just flush. My 2 cents.

i REALLY DID NOT LIKE THE LITTLE POTTIES, I FOUND IT TO BE GROSS THAT I HAD TO CLEAN IT OUT EVERY TIME HE DID HIS THING. I CLEANED IT ONLY ONCE AND AFTER THAT I HAD HIM GO ON THE BIG POTTY. THIS MADE HIM FEEL LIKE A BIG BOY TOO, I HAD A HARD TIME POTTY TRAINING HIM AT FIRST( HIM POOPING ALL OVER HIS FLOOR INSTEAD OF THE POTTY) BUT ONCE THAT WE GOT OVER THE ISSUE OF HIM DOING THAT IT WAS A BREEZE. i HAD ASKED THE DOC ABOUT METHODS ON POTTY TRAINING AND SHE TOLD ME THAT FOR BOYS I SHOULD NOT EVEN TRY POTTY TRAINING UNTIL HE WAS THREE, BUT I FELT THAT MY SON WAS READY TO START POTTY TRAINING BEFORE HE WAS 2 1/2 AND IT REALLY ONLY TOOK ME ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO DO IT. i JUST HAD TO KEEP ON HIM ABOUT USING THE BIG POTTY AND GIVE HUGE PRAYS FOR USING IT.

Hello everyone!

I am having issues with my computer today.  Anyway, as to the ring vs potty chair debate, we bought a potty chair when we were first training Emma, and I don't think either of them have ever used it.  The chair we bought came with a removable ring, and we just used that on the big toilet and that has worked really well.  Less clean up, and cheaper to buy.

Timothy just turned 3 last week and is doing great on the peeing part, but so far has wanted nothing to do with pooping in the potty.  Today I asked him about it, and he said he's afraid his poop will be stuck and it will hurt.  Emma has had some occasional trouble with constipation, and I think he's afraid that will happen if he uses the potty.  He has never had a problem though, so I reminded him of that.  He sounded excited then, so we'll see what happens.  But I think the most important thing is not to stress out over it.
