My husband and I are thinking way too hard about this... and we can not settle on a diaper bag. Tell me about what you used. Was it actually a diaper bag or something that you adapted? Did you have one for yourself and one for your hubby or did you share? What features do you think are the most important in a bag? How big does it need to be? What did you/ do you carry in yours? I have found some I like but they don't seem big enough. The ones that seem big enough are bulky and akward to carry.

ok my first diaper bag was a jeep one and we crammed way to much stuff into it so it broke our new one is bigger and is made by baby innovations and so far so good we can stuff it to the brim and it hasnt broke. we take way to much stuff with us, we have learned to carry an extra set of clothes and a towel with us just incase simon decides to play in the water which you wont have to worry about for awhile. we also carry toys and snacks, diapers, his water bottle , wipes and assorted other stuff. we do not take the diaper bag with us everywhere i have a diapee wipees in my backpack/purse all the time it holds a few diapers and a travel thing of wipes works out perfect for just running around http://www.twofunnygirls.com/detail_tb6.htm ... .

I have had many diaper bags over the years.  My favorite one was a gift given to me for my 3rd baby.  It was a backpack style bag with many compartments for diapers, wipes, clothing, and pockets for bottles and anything else you can think of to bring with you when you leave your house with an infant.

I liked it for many reasons, the multiple compartments, the removable changing pad, outside pockets, insulated removable bag, and the list goes on and on.  I still use this bag and it is kept in the back of my car with snacks, changes of clothing for all my kids and medication/first aide kit.  I loved that I was able to wear it to keep may hands free.

It was purchased at Babies R Us, and that was over 7 years ago and is still being used.  It was very well made and extremely durable.

Good Luck!Smile

With Alexis I bought just a plain one from Babies R Us. With Steven I went to Burlington and bought one that was more like a purse....it was big enough for the stuff you needed, but not too big where I was contantly loosing things. With Jacob I just used the diaper bag that was given from the hospital. It was an Evenflo bag and very nice and sturdy, not cheap at all, like the previous years. Plus it was all black with silver zippers...very nice!!

I absolutely hate diaper bags.  Most of the time I carry a diaper and the bottle in my purse. If we are gone for longer periods of time, I take along a smaller diaper bag with just the necessities in it.   I like backpacks, easy to carry and it doesn't feel so ackward carrying it.

I would carry a purse kind of like a tote. I did not like using diaper bags. The one I had was really nice.

We had two different versios, both Eddie Bauer.  One was the standard style, one strap over the shoulder with the center pouch and a few outside compartment.  The other was the backpack style.

With our schedules and sharing of duties, I thought we would need two.  Well, dh ended up using a grocery bag & packed the needed supplies for the immediate trip.

I used the diaper bag for about a year; however, I preferred the backpack style as it was did not get in the way and balanced me more for carrying Rivers.

Now, I have a small bag and I too just keep enough supplies for the trip.  I keep a ziplock bag of wipes and it can carry food supplies or 3 water bottles (or sippies) and a few diapers, plus my stuff.  It is packed, but it works.  I never carry toys with me - it was a habit I did not want to start.

My suggestion, get one type of bag that is mult-function, just a regular backpack would be fine.  It does not have to be an actual diaper bag.  After a month you know more about what works for your style - at that point you can go wild.

If you want one that is specific for a diaper bag, I was really happy with the Eddie Bauer ones and they carry them at Target.

I think the bigger the bag the more junk I throw in there that I don't need. I hate regular diaper bags. I use a a good size (bigger than a purse)  bag from american eagle it is cute and not heavy. If your husband doesn't want to use a girly bag then he can get one at american eagle to they make book bags in the mens department that work very well as diaper bags. We have one of these also.

I don't know if Vera Bradley is popular where you are, but it is in Georgia, and I got a Vera Bradley diaper bag at a baby shower. It comes with a washable changing pad and plenty of pockets for wipes and bottles. It costs about $100, but it's washable and fashionable, and it's the only one you'll need.

As far as what to pack, it will change as your baby grows, but for a newborn excursion, I would pack: 7 to 8 diapers, 4 changes of clothes, 5 or 6 burp clothes, 5 or 6 bibs, wipes, diaper rash cream, and of course, bottles and pacis! Good luck!

hummm tuff question i too pondered on this for awhile befor brad was born.... and i think i made the wrong decision...lol

i had 2 bags at first one for daddy and one for me.... daddies was smaller... and nicer to carry....mine was bigger and able to fit my purse too... that was a plus...free up a hand....

my vote is a small bag that you can cram alot into.... one or 2 extra outfits 10 diepers for a day ... and several bottels and perhaps some snacks for your self and a botteled water....whippies too. youd be suprised how much you can fit into a small bag if your a good packer....

the big one was always a pain in the doopie.... trying to carry it and a car ea/carrier afnd fit through a  door... HA thats a funny dite to see... anda tuff job at that.

good luck to ya.

we used out eddie bower bag the most it just the right size .... and had an ajustable strap... it was on the smaller end.

I have a three month old and I used the one that I registered for until it broke because I had everything but the kitchen sink in it.  My husband and I share because the baby can't be in two places at once.  After that one broke I also went to Burlington (Baby Depot) and bought one that really looks like a purse. (black with like a teal oriental patern on the top).  It's great.  My husband does not mind carrying it because it's not like if people see it they won't see that he has the baby too and know what it is for.  The way I figure it, is that the diaper bag is my new purse and I am going to get as cute and stylish one that I can. As for compartments, its nice that they have seperate little sections inside to keep your diapers, wipes, bottles from shifting around.  Have fun with it and enjoy shopping!!!

When I first had the twins...I had this huge diaper bag that ws not needed.....There was so many spots for this and that...and I would get frustrated when the things I needed wouldn't fit into the space provided...so I got rid of it. I bought to Eddie Bauer book bags...I used a little make-up bag...for the first aid stuff and the little stuff....I had a little bottle cooler that stood up in the bag....and then had the rest of the bag to use for the extra clothes and such.....Then we had a book bag that we left in the car that had extra everything...we still do that.... Now I carry this cute little Hurley bag I got at Tillys....and it has snacks juice cups and a few little things.....I am always prepared for just about anything.......but I dont over-do it.......
